I was officially accepted as a member of my local RWA chapter today! I can't express how thrilled I am to finally feel like I belong in this wonderful world of writing talent!
I'm sure I'll have more to blog about on this subject later, but I just wanted to share my news today.

I hope yours is closer than mine.
My local chapter is in Albuquerque 3 hours away. I checked around and there aren't any closer in Texas either.
I have been on the discussion loop or whatever you call it and it has been extremely helpful.
I'm glad you found a group Lisa. Could you please check your pending request for buddies? Not that I'm anxious or anything...

My first meeting
I'm going to my first meeting on Saturday in Charlotte. A friend invited me to see what it was all about.
There are two RWA chapters in my general area....Charlotte and Charleston and both are two hours away from where I live.

I hope a chapter opens closer to you Angel. I was reading and planning to join this one since before I left Californiaa last year. I drive about 40 minutes to get there.

V- how fortunate that there are two near you. Hope you are able to make some meetings eb=ven though they are so far away. Enjoy them, join one. I love mine. I didn't knpw we had so many pubbed and well known authors in mine until I went to a meeting in Jan as a guest! We are allowed 2 guest meetings before we have to join.

My hubby is back mid-May and then I am going to make the meetings no matter how far I have to drive. I have two sons and hate to ask someone to watch them all day.
My group is called LERA and we are small but do have a few published authors like Amanda McCabe.

Yay
on dh returning! And yay on making meetings. Have yoiu already joined?
We have Sharon Sala-HQN(?)- and Jill Monroe-Blaze- in our mix. Who knew one of them (don't want to say here which known author lives in a specific location) was right here in the same town my oldest dd lives in?

I joined LERA a few months ago and just joined Beau Monde yesterday. I think I better stop at that.
I asked a question about on-line queries yesterday on LERA's listserv and received a lot of good advice. It's nice to have published authors close by who are so willing to be of assistance.

I agree
STOP THERE! Lol
And I know what you mean about helpful pubbeds. Some of ours acted as agent/editors at the meeting this month to help us practice our pitches which I've never done before.
Btw- my buddy list has been updated.

Thanks for making me your buddy. (The money is in the mail.)
Can I use that idea about pubbed authors acting like agents/editors? I think that would be fun for our group. Kind of like practicing a job interview.

RE: LOCAL CHAPTER
Don't intend to be ignorant here, but what is RWA and LERA? I assume they have something to do with writing? Also, Does everyone here write? For if so, I'm in the wrong place!

RWA is 'Romance Writers of America' and LERA and OKRWA are both chapters of RWA local to where Angel or I live. They have chapters all over America. There is also RWA New Zealand, Australia and UK that I'm aware of. World wide baby. We're world wide!
And no. Everyone here is NOT writers. Some are simply readers who want to interact with their fave authors. So feel free to get comfy where ever you see something you want to participate in. Check out different blogs. If you're a reader you can gather your fave author websites and then comment here, or on their personal site blogs. Or both!
Thanks for visiting mine.

I don't see why not. I'm pretty sure we haven't got the patent on the idea! (stalking mailman for monetary reasons).

HockeyJock,
No, not everyone here is a writer. Some of us are just avid readers . . .

I write as a hobby. Truthfully, I'm a reader more than I'm a writer.
Thats not to say that I wouldn't love to be published one day, but its not really what motivates me to write. Writing is something I do to exercise my brain.

As a hobby
That's how I began when I was 15 or so yo. Rock stars were my subject of choice then later country music stars. Of course I had my faves! I gradually 'grew up' and began creating my own heros, but I always keep Clay Walker, Randy Owen, and Alan Jackson in mind. They represent a true country man to me! And I am, after all, a country girl though my stories have moved away from the music scene and back to my true roots of a horse-lovin' ranch-life gal.
And how I love to read!
