So I had youngest dd go in to set up a myspace finally, after her trying to get me to for at least two years now. Well, guess what? I still do NOT have a myspace profile! Nope. For some reason it wouldn't let me sign up. So, now- not only do I have a one-page wonder for a website, because my webmaster hasn't done anything with it for me in over a year, I have a non-myspace to go with it. Not my cyber-luck I guess.
Worse than this, I need a website to put on my business cards for my pitch next month and don't even remember the URL for the pathetic one I do have. (And I've had a few starts already with no success.
)
I asked brother to make it for me because he's good, and more importantly- free. Now I guess I'll have to find and delete that one and try to start fresh on my own again. Ugh! Really, I'm no good at this stuff and hiring someone right now is totally out of the question- so is buying a webspace. So I will attempt to struggle on and hope it turns out half decent and visitable.
Do you have any horror stories about getting your name out there you'd like to share?

A suggestion --
You might try setting up a LiveJournal account. They're very customizable, and the blog format can allow for updates that are more immediately visible than with MySpace.
RE: NO MY SPACE?
JUST SUGGESTIONS!!!! There is a lot of sh*t out on MySpace I wouldn't make Harlequin/Harlequin Imprint readers sort through to get to my stuff, AND, at least in my area, it's more of a thing that the kids use to make their own pages. A lot of us "oldsters" can be intimidated by it. Of course, the choice is yours -- but that's a couple of my thoughts on it.

Another option?
Lisa,
I have a myspace profile but I found setting it up to be quite stressful.
Facebook, on the other hand, was easy and much nicer to use. Maybe give this a go?

Thank yous
for the suggestions. I know myspace is 'for the kids' but thought I'd look into it since some of my friends (here) have it, and give dd a thrill at the same time by letting her set it up. No stress on me that way. But it doesn't want me anyway.
Livejournal? I've heard of facebook, think dd has one there too. Lol I'll have to be more explorative before I settle I guess.
Thanks for the opinions of those (ya'll
s) seemingly more knowledgable than I with these places. You may have very likely saved me a LOT of irritation.
On the up side- my webmaster/brother has resurfaced and began an all new and improved (or it will be) site today! Well, I sorta, kinda ranted at him about the last one and he stepped up to the plate. I've just sent him a bunch of stuff I want to see on it, hopefully before I pitch on the 15th. When it's ready I'll definitely add it to my sig line.

re: myspace
I have one. I had my kids help me set it up. But now I am able to do it all by myself. I find that it wasn't that hard once they showed me a couple of times. It may be for the "kids", but I have alot of "friends " of mine who live all over that also have one. We are able to keep in touch. I love it!

LiveJournal's got some
LiveJournal's got some excellent options for writers -- beta communities, research communities, and there's at least a few hundred other published writers hanging around on there.
And, in my experiance, it's better for anyone looking to have serious discussions. Hang out in the right areas, and you'll rarely see netspeak or horrible spelling. Except in LOLcats, but that's deliberate. Plus, little_details will provide answers to any question you might come up with. And I mean ANY question.
well, I use...
Multiply, and will be phasing out my Myspace. . I just dont like. But Multiply is great.

Got Books?
See
Now I've heard some nice things about myspace and some scary not so nice things about it. I guess its all figurative to the one using.
I am going to chk out LiveJournal today for sure. And Multiply? I've never heard of it until now either. Seems there are more of these type of locations than I realized.
Thanks agaion for your opinions and comments. I think I'll have to do a little more research before I make a decision.
