Okay, the cyber fairies are working against. I can't get my Scandinavian cover to show up. But here's a gander at my British cover for BASIC TRAINING. I like this one better than the North American version because this one features a MAN! Embarassed The NA version got the uniform right, but I think the guy looks more like one of my high school students than the hero I'd envisioned.

I loved this book

Actually, the NA cover was the one that inspired me to pick it up. I loved the eyes.

Here's the North American cover ......

Basic Training

And Julie I agree ... this young man is very nice to look at but he doesn't look old enough to wear the uniform  .... I don't know, maybe it's the lipstick?

he's a cutie but he reminds me of Ashton Kutcher when he first started on That 70's Show  .... robbing cradles comes to mind!   Surprised    ... I love the UK cover!  ... oh YUM  Embarassed Kiss

I live...

I live in Columbia, SC. Home of Fort Jackson, a basic training facility. I live very close to the fort. On Thursdays, I can hear the big guns going. My house shakes when they train on some kind of bombs. Scared the mess out of me the first time it happened....Anyway, some of the kids that come through here look like they're 12 so I definitely know what you mean.

Yummy Cover!

I really really like the other cover. Unfortunately mine is the one with lipstick on his face. But the book is good no matter what the cover looks like.

I agree that the British

I agree that the British cover is much nicer since the soldier looks much more mature.  I think the lipstick kiss on his face in the NA cover is silly looking.

ELLEN TOO

A true teacher is a person who, at the end of the school day, still likes children!

Yes, I remember when my dad

Yes, I remember when my dad (a retired veteran Marine) first saw the NA cover.  He said something like--they'd have him shave those sideburns before he got off the recruitment bus! Laughing

It's so cool that my dad reads my books.  He likes to solve the mystery if there is one--figure out who the bad guy is.  But he also has a sharp eye for details, like locations, uniforms, sideburns...

I was impressed that the NA artist got the Marine Corps uniform right--that isn't always the case.

I think it's interesting that some readers prefer one cover over another--it's good to have a variety of eye-catching covers, I think, to suit everyone's tastes and draw different readers in who may not be familiar with an author or line.
