If you link...

...to the uploaded image (right-click on the smilie and then go down to Properties in MS...not sure how you'd do this with a Mac), you can click on the little tree and then type or cut & paste the URL for the smilie that is onsite (i.e., here in the community pages).  That way, you can use the smilies, and it should be all right, because it isn't linked to a different site.  (At least, that's how I understand how the hosties explained it to me.)  The link for the :eyeroll: smilie, for example, is
