Herb Peterson, the inventor of the Egg McMuffin, died yesterday at the age of 89.
Hats off, Herb -- who doesn't love that classic sandwich? Though I'm allergic to eggs and cheese now, for years I loved this breakfast goodie. And have heard nutritionists actually hail the Egg McMuffin as a good breakfast -- I kid you not -- balanced calories, fat, protein. And tasty, to boot. And Herb looks like a happy guy, not to mention making it to 89 is a great accomplishment.
In Herb's honor, what did you have for breakfast this morning? Are you a morning person, or a breakfast person? I stuck with my lowfat waffles and bananas, (and coffee, much much coffee) but if it wouldn't have made me extremely ill, would have gone down the street to have an Egg McMuffin in his honor.

Hey Sam! Looking at Herb,
Hey Sam!
Looking at Herb, I'd say the Egg McMuffin did him no harm!
For breakfast, I had a bowl of Life cereal and coffee. If it's good enough for Mikey, it's good enough for me!
As a teacher, I've learned to be a morning person, bur I'm really a devoted night owl who has had to curb her tendencies to raise a family and hold a job.
I usually eat when I first get up, but I don't have to. I won't perish if I skip breakfast (several of them actually) but I try not to.
My ideal breakfast, which is much more interesting that what I had for b'fast THIS morning, would be a ham and cheese omlette, fresh fruit, toast, and coffee...lots and lots of coffee!
Now I'm hungry!
Ronda
LOL
Ronda, I can tell you I'm feeling the effects of little sleep last night, because I read your first line as "did him no ham." ROTFL.
I must have breakfast, it's a requirement, but I have light breakfasts 6 days out of 7, (Cheerios is my staple, with banana and berries, or waffles with fruit) then on Sundays we usually make pancakes or bacon, or cinnamon rolls or we go out and have something special. I do love breakfast food, and remember, though I don't do it often now, having breakfast for dinner many times in the past...
I can't begin to explain how much I miss eggs....

What about egg
What about egg substitutes? Not good or not okay with your allergies?
Studies show a nap of less than 40 minutes would boost your productivity ...just a thought...
Ronda
I don't know...
I've been hesitant to try the eggs subs... aren't they just the same as eggs?
I'm productive -- I think the Rita nod gave me a somewhat permanent buzz that's translating into some nice writing energy -- but maybe just a little loopy, hence, blogging about Egg McMuffins. *G*

RE: THANK YOU, HERB PETERSON
I had "Cinnamon & Apples" instant Quaker Oats, two hard-boiled eggs (holdovers from Resurrection Sunday), and cranberry cornbread. Kind of a quickie "on-the-run" brekkie today, though I am a big fan of Sausage McMuffins with Egg and a Hash Brown about once a week.

That's so sad
Sam,
I'm going to have an Egg McMuffin in his honor tomorrow, though at the latter end of the breakfast period because I'm so not a morning person.
In fact, I feel a little queasy if I eat too early. Today, after a couple of hours of staring at the ceiling and wandering around (can't seem to shake the flu), I had grapes and coffee. Not a cornucopia of nutrition, but I also can't seem to taste anything.
Sam, I wanted to congratulate you on your Rita nom! I'm so excited for you! I probably won't be in San Francisco, but I'll be bellowing my head off in support from here!

Love oatmeal
Though I usually do the cooked oats one, not the instant, so we don't have it more than once a week because it means cooking early in the morning, and that's not safe, as I usually don't have my eyes open before coffee! I like the sausage biscuit, too, as I can have it with no cheese and no egg.
Anna! Thank you! and so sorry to hear you have the flu. Yuck. I hope it goes fast! I won't be in SF, either, sadly -- believe me, I'm feeling the pinch. It's just too expensive, way over there. I'n hoping one of my pals will clue me in by cell phone during the awards, LOL. Enjoy the Egg McMuffin and hope you feel better to have it! We went to McD's for lunch today, in Herb's honor. *G*

egg allergy
My friend is allergic to eggs too so she'll take the egg out and it'll just be the sausage mcmuffin. Her husband likes the idea, he gets a double egg mcmuffin.
I usually have breakfast at like 10-10:30 so it's kinda breakfast/lunch combo. So this morning was a cheese omelete, bacon and coffee

Canadian Bacon
I remember when we were up in Toronto, we went to bfast at a diner, and I ordered "canadian bacon" and I was so surprised to get what I think of as ham! :)
I am a huge bacon fan, though we have gone to an organic, no nitrate, etc local brand. We don't eat too much meat these days, but I do like bacon (not the ham sort...)!

Breakfast food
Thanks for telling us, Sam. I never knew who did that. I'll add a prayer for his family's comfort through this difficult time.
My standard breakfast is 1/4 c (or 1/3.. thereabouts) of Ezekiel 5:9 cereal (similar to grapenuts only better) with a lowfat yogurt tub. I have to have breakfast and lunches that are easy to transport to work.
