I don't really pay much attention to the monthly challenges, but I believe that this past month's challenge had to do with trying something new. I keep track of all the books I've read in a word document and discovered that just under half the them (9) have been new to me in some way. This month I also caught up with my Harlequins in the TBR, so I branched out into other TBR piles, including a gift from my seminarian.
It has been a month of joy and sadness, as we had our niece visit one week during her spring break and then 2 weeks later we had our oldest daughter and her new boyfriend visit during their spring back (joy). The sadness came in when at the end of their week visiting, my mom passed away. But the joy there was her timing. As a deeply religious woman she passed on Holy Saturday.
At the beginning of the month I had hoped to get at least 25 books read, I'm off that pace; however, I have been given the gift of a snowday today. (I was supposed to be at work doing a 2.5 hour Mandated Reporter training and catching up on a ton of paperwork.) So, I might get closer than I initially thought. I have just completed my 20th book for this month and am starting number 21. Upon completion (which should be later today) it will bring my total for the first three months up to 70 books!

Good going Nancy - I know it sounds ridiculous for me to
say it's not the total that counts, but I don't read this many books just to bump up the total
Most
of them I read so that I won't go nuts, reading helps keep me sane and
relatively calm in this crazy stressed world we live in
The microwave has just gone 'ping' so I'd better put the rice and (homemade) porkandvegetable curry on the table

Destressing with reading
I read to keep from going nuts too. I can't ever remember a time when I didn't read and as a child I would escape into books whenever thinkgs got tough. Almost 21 years ago I had a child with a disability and I was a stay-at-home mom. My dh bought a computer for me so I could start writing personal essays. Within a few years I was writing articals for our local Down syndrome newsletter. Reading and writing are major outlets, along with music--I'm a singer and I play several instruments. There was a time during those stay-at-home days when I would read 2 - 4 books per day. Can't do that anymore. But I still love reading!

I can't wait for summer so
I can't wait for summer so I can start reading that much! I actually will be happy with one book a day, because I hope the majority of my day will be filled with writing!!!! This summer is the time to get serious about writing!
Gotta love those snow days and breaks so I can lay around and read!

Let us run with ENDURANCE the race that is set before us; looking only unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith. Hebrews 12:1a-2b
2-4 no more
I used to be able to read that many/day. Now I'm lucky if I can get one read/day. Love vacations and days off.

Well given that 2.something was my average for both 2006
and 2007, I'd be really happy if I could bring it up near the 3 mark
for 2008, but thats 1098 books and DH might not be as happy
My current average is 2.222222222 (easy to type
)
Don't know if it's a realistic goal with me working

Working really cuts...
...into reading time! I could read so much more when I was not working outside the home. The time I got the most reading done was when my babies nursed on demand!
