After work today Richard and I are headed to Houston. He's going to bowl in another pro tournament. This one is also subtitled Bowlers against Diabetes. They're hoping to raise money I suppose, but I'm not quite sure how that's going to work.
I was packing today, and had to of course plot which books to take. I'm sure I'll be doing a lot of the driving, so not much reading time on the way down. Unless I'm willing to use my earbuds I don't even think I can listen to an audio book...but maybe he'll let me?
So back to the book packing...how many to take? Of couse the one I'm currently reading has to go. Then the one I started when I forgot the one I was reading has to go, but will it get read? Then on Wednesday night my dinner book group is having a phone in chat with Susan Wiggs, so I picked a Susan Wiggs book to go as well. I also have way too many ebooks on my laptop which is also packed! I won't run out of reading material that's for sure! Oh no...I just realized that I left the cord for my laptop at home! How stupid was that? UGH!!!!
Well, guess once my laptop dies I'll have nothing to do but read! Good thing I have 2 and 1/2 print books with me. When you go away how many books do you take? How do you decide what to take?

Reading emergencies
I think my books are the first things that get packed...in fact even when I'm flying out to attend the RWA conference where I KNOW I'll be packing an extra bag to pack my conference books into, I still bring a book or two along...just in case. The thought of being stranded somewhere en route for hours without a book (aka reading emergency) gives me the willies!!!

I even take a book to church. No...not to read during a dull sermon.
But we stop for gas on the way home and then we eat out (we live 35 minutes from our church), so, I have plenty of reading time before we arrive home.

Have you noticed that are quite a few New Yorkers at this site? I also live in rural NY but south of Albany. I love out location. We are only 1 1/2 hours from NYC, 1/2 hour from Kinston and Poughkeepsie, and 1 hour from Albany. All the comforts of county living with the shops just a short distance away.

Yes, I have noticed quite a few people that call NYS home. It's a beautiful state, but then, there are many other states and countries that generate love in the folks that live there.

i think most people truly love the area that they grew up in...i still have a soft spot for the plains, but have most always lived rural...love to visit the bright lights though!
we are heading up to my inlaws for the weekend. i will bring at least three books with me...although my sister-in-law also has tons...it is the one item that I always try to have enough of, although last time we visited i was knitting so only needed one book...

How many?
When I travel how many & what books I take depend on where I am going, how long I will be gone & if I am traveling by car or plane. It has been several years since I have done a plane trip so I'm going by car & I'm driving but I read when I make a stop for lunch or sometimes I just need a short break from driving, usually a potty stop!! When I stop for any reason I try to walk around a bit to stretch my legs. If I am visiting friends and/or family I don't get a lot of reading done. This is sometimes a good time to reread a couple of my favorites. The grandkids like to play games and I like to spend as much time with them as possible so I don't get to read alot. If I know I am going to have some reading time I will often take a book that needs my full attention, no distractions such as the computer, cleaning house, etc. all that stuff that is waiting for us when we are home!!
Okay, guess I have rambled on enough. Thanks for giving us a chance to state an opinion!!
I hope Richard did well with his bowling. Maybe you have something posted on What are you reading now?
Take care, happy reading,
