ZERO TBR, sob, sniffle, sigh

That's right!  You heard it here first.  I have absolutely NOTHING in my TBR pile.  As a matter of fact, I don't have a pile!!!

I have some orders placed, but nothing is in my mailbox so far this week.

What's a girl to do???  I need to be finishing up the summer school curriculum, or working on the Desire ms I intend to finish for the pitch here, but I want to READ!

Stillness interrupted by anguish.....please send help.....

I'm addicted to books and I can't stop reading!

Well! ..... how can that be!!

Surprised   Cat, that's truly awful! .... if I lived near you I'd rush right over with a box full!

how about going to that keeper shelf (please tell me you have a keeper shelf!)  .. and pick a book you last read in 2006 or before, and read it again ..... you're allowed to reread books from your keeper shelf and post it to the Challenge as long as you read it more than a year ago ..... so how about sharing your most favourite keeper?

we're going to have to work on your bookaholic skills ... you simply can not run out of books on your TBR ... that rule number one of Bookaholics R Us ... never, never allow the TBR to fall below one month's reading, best to at least a years worth ...

so repeat after me .... "I will never allow my TBR pile to disappear again ... I will buy, beg, borrow if I have to"

the eharl site, and a very nice member took pity on me and started
sending me books from her TBR and then agreed to act as my local en
route TBR and now my TBR is very healthy

this is one reason you never hear ME complain about the nicely healthy size of my TBR

Are you an ebook person? Would that be a possible interim solution?

Hope those books arrive soon

Two or three thoughts come immediately to mind . . .

  1. eBooks (as Sadhbh said -- time to try them if you haven't and it's very easy and you can do it for free: last time I checked, there were 3 free ebooks at the eboutique),
  2. how do you not have a big TBR and
  3. WHERE are you? Maybe someone can bring you something.

I like Katherine's idea of a keeper re-read, too, but that thought didn't come to my mind, Katherine put it there LOL.

The "very nice member" has spoken

Listen to her Wink

and try millsandboon.co.uk for their online library, they have loads of the old online reads that are no longer systematically available here

Now, I'll just convert this to "My dw's TBR pile cannot run out again.  I must buy her books all the time.  I should routinely recommend trips to the city JUST to go to the bookstore." and record it for dh to listen to while he sleeps!!!!!

Actually, I do have 2 ebooks waiting.  Unfortunately, my laptop cord won't reach a plug in from my fav reading spot, and the battery doesn't live long enough for me to get through the whole book!

PDAs (I steal dh's Palm), PPCs (shewolf loves hers -- I think it's an Axim), your phone (is your cell phone a model that can become your eReader?), dedicated devices (eBookwise, Sony, Kindle). Price, features, how you can justify it on your family's budget LOL. Then next time, you can just wander around with a device in your hand. :)

PS -- you didn't say where you are -- region is fine (US SW, US Midwest, Canada, you get the gist).

PPS -- some libraries have downloadable ebooks (msrb's has some in Adobe and some in MobiPocket). Any chance yours does or will?

PPPS -- here's another idea. Audiobook! Do you already own a device? Does your library have downloadable (ours does)? Are you willing to buy one at audible.com? I'm addicted to audiobooks!

(Now I'm really done. For now. Laughing)

Ai, Ai, Ai!

Cat! ..... I believe there is a solution .... EXTENTION CORD    Laughing

..... and keep repeating! ... "I will never allow my TBR pile to disappear again ... I will buy, beg, borrow if I have to"    ....... and we'll all start sending out vibes to your dh about his part!   LOL

Try the library

It always works for me. Walk in - walk around and I hope you find a few books you want to read.

Tammy

She's mentioned living in a small town

and how long it takes to get to the closest Wal-Mart and bookstore, so I'm betting that she doesn't have easy access to the library?

Maybe the school will let you check something out? I've really enjoyed some YAs that I've read in the last year or two.

I ran out of books in my TBR a few years ago. I vowed I would never let it happen again. I feel your pain, but you have had some excellent suggestions for overcoming the current crisis.

Now I'm having the opposite problem, but I feel your pain.

My sympathy

I think someone would have to call an ambulance to take me to the ER if I did not have at least one book to read.   My sympathy.

I'm putting my foot in my mouth right now!

Hey, I just left you a post on the 'pseudonym' blog before I read this very 'anguished' post about having no TBR's while you wait for your order.  I was teasing you about having a bookstore pretty close to my house, and you'll probably feel ready to shoot me when you read it!  Foot in mouth

I buy a lot of harls and Sils from ebay.  I don't know if you've ever done this, but it's soooo easy.  A lot of the sellers have clumps of books they want to sell.  In fact I just bought some new 2007/2008 ones.  I also belong to Harl's book club and get new shipments from them every month.  I probably shouldn't order all of these because when I'm in the process of writing I have to limit my reading considerably; the result is that I have gobs of piled up books, and can't possibly keep them all!  A lot of times I end up giving some of them away after I've read them.

If you'd like I can mail you some that I'm finished with (media mail). Just let me know!  TTYL Smile
