Teacher Appreciation

FAST DRAFT PROGRESS: 7 pages. Still not my goal, though. Wah!

Well, it's Teacher Appreciation Week this week.

My little girl painted that little flower pot holder. She'll take it to her teacher today with a nice card she made. (She even even cut off some fur from her Webkinz to glue on the card)

Now that's love.

Nothing says "we appreciate you" like some flowers, a homemade card with dog fur--and an Applebees's gift card.**cough cough**

(All the room moms chipped in for the gift card) :)

Have you told a teacher how much they're appreciated this week?

Ahh, that's sweet!

Little kids are so precious, aren't they?  She did a good job on the pot.

My DD is in kindergarten, and really hates that she has only two weeks left this year.  Her mommy hates it too, because DD will never find enough stuff to do this summer to keep from screaming out boredom - LOL!  Laughing And DD positively loves her teacher, so she'll be glad to make her something.  We do craft projects here at home a lot.  Is that a styrofoam cup for your flower pot or a real pot?  It's hard to tell from the pic.  We used to use styrofoam back when I was in school, in the very old days.  Wink

Thanks for the blog - I didn't realize it was teacher appreciation week.  I know what we'll be doing around here this evening!

I won't have known either,

I won't have known either, but they had a whole schedule of things for us to do this week - one day each student brings in a cut flower, another day - a food item like coffee or cookies, another day a card, another day a piece of fruit and the last day something for the classroom.  Today was fruit day, so I sent a mango - figured she might want something besides apples.

PTO

Our PTO at both schools here on base take care of the gifts. I have found in the past if a child could not afford something or his/her parents forgot the child was upset. We do have the parents bring food to the luncheons for the teachers and the kids can bring in their own gifts if they want to.

I do like the idea of the dog fur; let me see if I can catch one of my cats.

flower pot

You know what we used?

We went to a craft store and for $1 got that plastic cup with 3 different types of paper designs to color--or in this case PAINT.  Then when it's dry, you slip it in the cup, attach the cover, and voila!  :)

They make things too easy anymore. LOL!

A good idea....

Angel, you're funny.  Hope they're long-haired cats, poor things! <gg>

You know, Jennifer, that's a really good idea about the pot.  I think they make candle holders that way, too, where you can slip a pic in between the layers of glass (or plastic), don't they?

This is a little off the subject, but speaking of candles, something that DD and I do is take dried flowers and make our own candles (using wax from the hobby stores).  The flowers look really pretty pressed into the wax when it's still warm.  And the wax can even be melted in the microwave, in molds, so that the project is kid-friendly.  Easier still, are the beeswax sheets.  You can just stick a wick in the center, roll them up, slip them in the microwave for a few seconds until they're warm, and then apply the flowers.  These make great gift ideas.  And so easy... my kind of project, alright!  If I can't get to the craft store this evening, we might make one of these for her teacher (since we already have the materials).

All I ever need in this life is more time!  I never have enough of it to read, write, and do ALL the family activites I'd like to do!  Smile  Is this just a woman's lot, or what?

Amanda

I am not allowed to melt anything in the oven anymore. I was melting a candle in a jar to fill some molds and it spilled in the oven. It was a strong pine scented candle and my house stunk for quite a few days.

I am not crafty at all but I admire those who are and have the patience to actually complete a project.

Not all candle burning is created equal....

Well, Angel, pat yourself on the back anyway.  At least you didn't do what my poor DSIL did - leave a candle burning on a woodburning stove all night, only to wake up the next morning and find everything in her living-room covered by a thin layer of black soot - and right at Christmas too!  Undecided  Thank goodness for insurance!

And believe me, our projects are easy to make.  No Martha Stewart stuff!  LOL

Amanda

My boys are in scouts and do a lot of crafts/building projects. My hubby is home soon thank goodness because I don't have the skill for a lot of theirt projects.

I asked this somewhere else, but didn't you have a full ms requested?

Thanks for asking!

(I had to edit this) Actually it was my partial manuscript that was requested after I queried. **Squealing as I type**  And I'm standing by waiting with frazzled nerves!  Which is probably why I'm being so chatty on these blogs - LOL!  Embarassed  I'm sorry I didn't see where you posted the question the first time!  I still lose track of the blogs and the threads I've been on.

Glad your DH is almost home. I can feel your excitement through your writing! Smile

Jennifer, I hope you don't mind this sidetrack to your blog! Foot in mouth  I tend to do that a lot!

off topic

Ha! Quite all right, Amanda. LOL!  I tend to get "chatty" too. Laughing

I LOVE that candle idea. I've seen those in gift stores--sometimes with shells in the candles. What a great gift idea!!

and Amanda, congrats on the partial request! What line are you targeting?

Amanda

Are you targeting historical? Inquiring minds want to know.

Thanks, Jennifer...

...for your congrats!  I aimed my partial at SSE.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed!  And, meanwhile, I can use all the encouragement I can get...believe me!  Becoming a published author is really the only dream I've ever had (besides having my family, of course).  It makes me short of breath just thinking about it!

Yes, I've seen the candles with shells, too!  They're a cute beach-house style.  We haven't tried to make those yet.  I'm not sure how they hold up under the burning process.  I know that the dried frowers just sort of disintegrate with the heat and hot wax.  Might try the shells sometime, though. Smile

Inquiring minds want to know....

<GG>  I like that, Angel.

Yes, I LOVE to read historicals, and am actually currently working on an ms set in Brown County, Indiana, in the year of 1911.  Brown County has been dubbed the 'Little Smoky Mountains', because of the similiarities they share - the hills are nearly mountainous.  I've had to do a lot of research, which isn't too hard of a task since I live less than 20 miles from there and have access to the county's archives.  Of course, there's also the net.

However, the partial ms I sent off was sent to Silhouette Special Editions (SSE).  It's modern, set in S.C.  My tastes are very diversified!  Thank goodness many of Harl's editors are over more than one line of Harls and Sils, so it might be more easy for me to switch between the lines (also, I will probably do pseudonyms).  If I can't switch, then I have more ideas for SSE's (have you read any of these?).  Meanwhile, right now, I'm just chewing my nails in between typing, waiting to hear from TPTB....  Wink
