Do You Feel Compelled to read the newest releases first?

Hi All:

I have a very strong urge to read the new releases the day they become available. For example, on June first I will be downloading the July eBooks which I would have already purchased beforehand.  I am now reading my July Steeple Hills books which came yesterday. (I am reading these ahead of the May and June books I have not got to  yet.)

If I had a Lucy Gordon (a favorite author) book that came out today and one that came out two years ago but that I have not read yet, there is no doubt:  I would read the new one first. ( Regardless of the theme!) This is also why I find it hard to ever re-read a keeper (which I fully intend to read someday).

Are you like this, too?  Or is this a Don Juan thing Surprised where men want to move on to the next newest conquest? I was totally amazed that so many romance fans actually re-read their keepers. I thought everyone was going to say that, while they fully intend to re-read them,  like so many New Year’s resolutions, they usually don’t get around to it.

Thanks,

Vince

Good question!

Hi Vince,

I usually read some of the newer ones first when the harlequin order arrives - I guess the blurbs intrigue me when I order so I'm anxiously awaiting their arrival.

For other books - it will depend on the author.  For instance, Karen Rose, JRW, Linda Howard etc will be read immediately after purchase.

There is no pleasure in having nothing to do; the pleasure is having lots to do and not doing it!

Not usually .....

As many authors write linked stories or characters that are revisited, I prefer to read books in order of release  ....and if it's a book that's part of a mini-series, be it continuity or author, I must read it in order  ... as you can imagine this contributes to a very large TBR pile!

if an author is an autobuy, I may succumb to the temptation to read the books out of order ... or if the author is brand new to me

Vince - I have a list of

Vince - I have a list of books that I MUST read and when they are availabe for pre-order - and yes I order them as soon as I can and then they go to the top of my reading list. The only problem I have is which one do I read first. Surprised

If it's a book I'm super excited about reading, or next in a series, I ususally put it to the top of my TBR pile.  Laughing

Hi star0925:

I know just how you feel.  In June I had four favorite “auto-buy” authors come out with books: Natasha Oakley, Lucy Gordon, Trish Wylie, and Michelle Styles. I’ve been so conflicted about which to read first, (it’s almost like being unfaithful to the author you don’t read first Surprised) that I have been reading other books!

I actually started three of the four above books and felt so guilty that I switched to other authors!   This might be funny except it is true! Surprised

To make it even harder, yesterday I got the third “Sisterhood of the Dropped Stitches” book which has my highest priority of any romance. If I get any more stress, I’m going to have to read an M.C. Beaton mystery! Sealed

Thanks,

Vince

RE: NEWEST RELEASES FIRST

It depends upon the book.  Since I found (and bought) someone's old TBR at Value World (mostly Intrigues and Supers), I'm reading a lot of those -- while still reading "new" ones -- though the second-hand TBR IS old (some of the books in it are upwards of 20 years old in it).  I have read a few Harlequin's that I swear I'm going to re-read, but as of yet, I've never done that.

New Releases & Don Juan

It might be a Don Juan thing.  :)

If it's a series, I like to read them in order, if I can.  Even if it's not a series, I'll read an author book by book as they write them.
