The Wild Rose Press
Short Paranormal Romance/Fantasy
Rating: 3.5
Amity has never been able to master spell casting. Each time she has attempted it, something has gone disastrously wrong. The last thing she wants to do is cast a blessing during the coronation of the new king but the kingdom has been suffering from a severe drought for far too long and needs help.
Duncan is out hunting when his bow and arrow strike down a lovely wood nymph instead of the buck he was stalking. After patching her up and taking her home, he can’t get her out of his mind. What will he do when he discovers his lovely nymph is the sorceress set to grant the blessing at the coming festivities?
Amity is a sweet and innocent young woman who cares more for others than herself. While she has magic, she has so little faith in her own abilities that the thought of wielding them terrifies her. She has to learn that she can’t give up because of one old mistake. Confidence is a big part of making her magic work and once she finally learns to embrace rather than scorn her gifts, anything can, and does, happen.
Duncan is a little harder to understand. He scorns even the possibility of magic though we never quite find out why. We are given the practical reason he thinks the blessing unnecessary, but for something he’s that passionate about, I want to know the emotions behind his reaction.
There is a slight bit of humor worked into A Blessing in Disguise through a mistaken identity type of premise. This adds to the story when our characters’ are surprised at discovering who the others really are. This also adds a bit to the love story between Amity and Duncan since they immediately fall for each other but later have doubts upon learning the truth about each other.
