I rarely win anything in author contests so I was all excited about this one, especially since it's not the kind of contest I usually enter due to lack of creativity. LOL
Emily Bryan (AKA Diana Groe) was running a contest on her My Space blog to name her new book. BTW, a book she hasn't even dreamed up yet. Her titles are all the formula "XXXing the XXX" and are all alliterative (Distracting the Duchess, Pleasuring the Pirate, etc). So I entered the contest just for the heck of it and posted several possibilities that fit the formula. Part of the idea of the contest was to see what people came up with and the ideas they generated for her to write about.
Well she picked one of my suggestiones for her title. I suggested "Educating the Earl" and she picked it! So now when she meets with her publisher in July to pitch her new book, MY title is what's giving her the story to write! How cool is that? If her publisher likes it she'll be using it. I've not got near enough of an imagination to dream up book ideas to write so to think that I'm playing a role in someone else's next book is so incredibly awesome. My idea may be a tiny start but hey, it WAS a start!
The prize was, aside from the title being used on her next book, any book in her backlist, autographed, or an ARC of her next book. Since I already own all 4 books on her backlist, I went for the ARC. So I'LL get one of the very first copies!

Awesome!
That's cool, Kelley! Not to many people could say they helped an author name a book! Congratulations. I'm with you about thinking up possibilities for a storyline like that. The 'education' in Educating The Earl could be one heck of a live-wire! I hope Emily writes a storyline for that title that will absolutely rock!

Thanks Amanda and FF!
I love Diana Groe, becoming an instant fan when I read book 2 to review (Erinsong). Hadn't heard of her first book before then. She's a real sweetheart too. I got to meet her at RWA last year and we chat back and forth over e-mail somewhat regularly. So I was especially excited that I won her contest since I actually know her now.

WOW! Lost for words here.
WOW! Lost for words here. I usually don't enter anything like that as I wouildn't even be able to come up with a name. I know how you must feel though. I was excited when I won Rogenna Brewer's contest as it was the first one I'd ever one. Maybe a little incentive to try for more.

Congrats!
I'm delighted for you Kelley!
And didn't we just have this conversation about you never winning anything? <wink> Won't it be fun to follow her progress on the book and she what she dreams up to fit the title?

Well as it turns out, the editor decided it was time to change the titling scheme since "everyone is doing that now." So my title won't get used after all. But at least I can still say I inspired the book in some way. :-) And the ARC I won arrived in the mail today so I can't wait to read it.
