Oh the inhumanity that is being poor. June is going to be a wicked month for buying books. There's new releases by several of my favorite authors. The newest Melissa Senate, Questions to Ask Before Marrying, the newest "Real Vampires" novel from Gerry Bartlett, Real Vampires Get Lucky, I think there's even a new Judy Baer coming out in June. It's just SO hard to try and decide which one to buy this month and which one to buy later. Gone are the days when I can buy whichever ones I want. *sigh*
Of course, I think I took the decision out of my own hands when I got so excited when I saw that Real Vampires Get Lucky was available for pre-order on Amazon and went ahead and ordered it. My bad. hehehehe I just couldn't stand the wait, though. I love Glory St. Claire and Gerry's spin on vampires. Vampire comedy, I think she calls it. I love it.
Right now I'm in the midst of reading Maggie Shayne's Lover's Bite. It's slow going not because it isn't good. I've just been so whacked out that I haven't been able to concentrate. Well, that and the fact that this new set of vampire novels from Maggie Shayne have an entirely different feel from her Wings in the Night series. They're good, still, but different. It's enough of a difference that it keeps pulling me out of the story because my mind keeps comparing. Which isn't fair to the author OR the story because it's the author's prerogative to shake up her style after so many years and the story shouldn't suffer because of my silly expectations, yanno?
And don't ask me how I manage to jump from the much darker Shayne novels to the light and fun Gerry Bartlett novels. lol I just do. Gerry's like the chick lit version of Maggie Shayne's vampire novels. And ya'll know I loves me some chick lit. hehehehe
Actually, I think it would be funny if Gerry's "Real Vampire" characters teamed up with Maggie's "Wings in the Night" characters for a big darkly funny vampire thrill ride of a novel. hehehehe
Yes, I'm warped, twisted and slightly insane. But I maintain that it'd be fun. ;)
But, back to buying books, having had to pack the seemingly endless books on my keeper shelves you'd think I'd swear off buying more books. But I can't. I love them too much. Even though I don't get to read as much anymore as I'd like to I love knowing that they're there waiting on me to pick them up like old friends I can take out on the town and whoop it up. They make me happy. Some people need booze, others need drugs. Me? Just give me books and I'm higher than any druggie ever hoped to be. hehehehe

Re: Books buy the dozen
Yup June book buying is going to be a strain on the pocketbook. Jill Shalvis has a new Brava, she has a July Blaze that can be ordered June, Janelle Denison has another Wilde book, Diana Palmer has one coming out. My stepmother wants Always Dakota by Debbie Macomber. I'm dreading taking my books of the shelves if we decide to paint the living room and bedroom. heehee I know what you mean about just knowing they are there and then being able to say "I have that one"

Some I just have to have the minute
Some I just have to have the minute they hit the stores, even when I know it'll be awhile before I can read it. We're in good company with our addictions, there's just so many of us on these boards. People look at me like I'm crazy when I tell them how many books I've read this year or in a month but not here. I love sharing my love of books with others who love them just as much.

Book lovers Anonymous meeting held everyday at eHarlequin. Somehow, I don't think that concept would work. Besides, we all love eHarl so much because it gives us a chance to discover new authors, great books, and wonderful friends who share the same interests. I can't imagine a worse group than one that tried to tell me to curtail the amount I read.

I couldn't curtail the
I couldn't curtail the reading, but I have begun to curtail the buying. I use to buy a lot of books as I love my keepers, but I have been discovering that I am rarely reading my keepers anymore as I have so much in the TBR. So know I am using my library more and less likely to buy the books just because they are my favorite author.

How Did I Miss.....
How did I miss this topic yesterday? I have fearsome TBR bin (75 new and 982 mixed others) and today I went to the store for bread, milk, sour cream and 7 books. Well, the books were an impulse buy. My keeper shelves consist of First Edition Hardcovers (FEH) and paperbacks that I can't part with. Mostly everything else I take to the trader or donate to the library.
Curtail? Hold on while I look it up in the dictionary.... Are You NUTS? Slow down reading, I'm already unhappy that I can't do it fulltime. But I need to work to keep the funds available for buying the books and
storingmaking my mortage payment. All joking aside, it seems there are more and more great books by brilliant writers hitting the market with regularity. Picking the nows and saving for the laters is becoming tougher.
Whew! LOL Glad to see that
