I read an article today that stated that the West Point Academy changed the lyrics to their songs to make them gender neutral. At first, I thought jeez does this really matter, but then I read the article. No one was suing the Academy or some other annoying thing, it stated that the officials from West Point made the change after attending the funerals of several of its female graduates. The women had fought in combat in Iraq & Afganistan. The head official noted that symbols and words are important and wanted all graduates to be recognized. This blog is not going to take a position on the war, but I was glad to see an organization decide to do something, not because it is political correct, but simply because it was the right thing to do.

I think this is very important because negative attitudes are
acquired almost automatically at times and anything that promotes respect for all members of the armed forces both men and women and limits the negative aspects can only be good.
They do a great job and I agree, doing something because it's right rather than just politically correct or politically expedient makes it worth so much more - at least from my pov

Thanks for the thoughts, I
Thanks for the thoughts, I just liked that the School President was doing it to make sure that everyon'es actions are recognized and that seemed like a great sign of equality, doing something because it is deserved.

That sounds good, and I
That sounds good, and I agree with you about changing things just because it is the right thing to do and to recognize people.
Our church prayer book went through a change of language was more inclusive and they now have RITE I which is more traditional and Rite II which is contemporary language. I like the older more archaic language because it is what I learned as a kid and I do miss the melodies of the chant which are just easier for me to sing and sound nicer to my ears..but I like the newer version too because it isn't so full of brow-beating about how we are all so unworthy etc. I sometimes joke that I would like a RITE III----the traditional ways with more inclusive but still poetic language,

It is hard to try and
It is hard to try and combine the old and the new and still retain some of the great old flavors. How nice that your church allows people options for what works for them.
