Yesterday marked the revival of a summer tradition for my son and me. Board games. Or should I say 'bored' games. As an only child, it doesn't take long for my son to get bored in the summer when his friends are out of town or otherwise unavailable. Frequently I'll come to his rescue and offer to play a game with him. Why? Because I love endless rounds of Pokemon Monopoly or Yatzee? No.
Because I treasure the one-on-one time with a kid who is growing up far to fast? You better believe it!
Well, okay. The games are fun in moderation, but the bigger picture is, I know school will start again in a few weeks, and we'll both be swamped with activities and work. Summer affords a brief respite from the rat race, and I intend to make the most of it. So board games are as much a part of summer for us as Louisiana humidity and homemade ice cream. Gotta go. I think I hear a game of Racko calling...

LOL, Beth!
My only child loves board games too. We (her, DH, and me) often sit on the deck in jammies on Sunday night after her bath and play Sorry. She's vicious! We also like Clue, Monopoly, and Battleship. Hmmm...I'll bet she'd like Yahtzee. Have to check that out....(we're a big game family!)
It's so hard on an only kid when there's no friend to play with, Dad's at work, and Mom's still working from home. The other day, she was so bored she actually asked me if she could dust the blinds. Um, OK! :-)

Jodie- Wow...next time she's bored sent you dd over to dust MY blinds! LOL
My son asked me earlier this week if we could do some errands just to get out of the house! I didn't really have any to do that day...I think that's the day we ended up pulling out the games.
Your Sunday night game time sounds great! Happy summer...It was great to "see" you at the chat last night!

Racko fan club
Wow. You mean that my family doesn't own the only existing copy of Racko? I think you are the first person I have ever met (at least as an adult) that played Racko. It was my Mom's favorite game, so we played it alot growing up. I know I still have the game somewhere... haven't played since Mom died almost 10 years ago.
I have one funny Racko story. My dad was a tacturn man who didn't play games with us. One night we convinced him to join us in a game of Racko. We told him the rules: pass out cards, you must put them bottom to top into your rack.. object is to be the first one to put all the cards in ascending order.... So we all set up our racks.. and he says.. "are we ready to go?" and we said yes.. Then there was this wild flurry of movement... yes. that was my father... he was putting all those cards in order as fast as he could, lol. We had forgotten to tell him the part about trading in cards one by one and he just thought it was a speed game.
Thanks for bringing those memories back this morning! Hope your game was fun!

Racko
Crystal-
LOL! I can picture your dad doing that! How funny!
I only learned about Racko as an adult when we visited my s-i-l. She had the copy that she and my hubby used to play as kids. My son liked it so much she found a set somewhere to give him the next Christmas. It's a regular around our house now.
Take care and happy gaming!
