NOCTURNE BITES EDITOR PITCH CHALLENGE

We're at it again! And this time, we've got another of your favorite lines for you to send your dramatic, sensual tales of paranomal romance entries to. Nocturne Bites is looking for YOUR manuscript and Editor Ann Leslie Tuttle will be on hand to take your pitch!

To enter, send a 2 paragraph blurb of your manuscript to Hosty Rae by July 1st

Five entries will be chosen by Ann Leslie Tuttle and those will be announced on or around July 3rd

Pitches will happen July 23rd, at 11 am est. Please read the rules below to ensure your entry can be accepted.

• Original and unpublished works only. In other words, nothing that was previously published as an ebook.

• You MUST be able to enter and post inside the eHarlequin.com chat room. If you are unable to use the chat room and your submission is chosen, we will be unable to offer you another venue option and it will be unfair to an entrant who is able.

• You MUST have a completed manuscript that is targeted to Nocturne. Editors have the option to request partials or fulls but aren't accepting across the board.

• You MUST be available at the given chat time. As stated above, we will be unable to offer another venue or time option.

• Please include your member name, your full name along with your submission.

Missed it...

The blog post. I'm sure to be overruled, but late August would work better for me.

I'm positive the others have been prepping like crazy. Can I go with the ole 'dog ate my homework' chestnut?

Sigh... I'll check back for the decision.

Link to that blog post?

Deleted

Cearha, I deleted the blog post. Frown Although, there might be some information in the old Nocturne Pitch about it because Ann Leslie Tuttle said after that pitch that she had so much fun and saw so much talent she wanted to do one for bites. I haven't decided quiet yet and am waiting for people to weigh in. That'd be two pitches back to back.

Rae

Submissions

Will they accept regular submissions for Bites durring that time frame as well?  Even if my ms is ready...I don't know that I'll be ready for the pitch.

If I'm going to be ready at all, it would be late August.  :S

Tiff

Thanks, Rae

i'll re-read the Nocturne thread and see what I can find.

I'm currently reading Racing the Moon and my story is waaay different, so we'll see.

Never hurts to try. Well... mebbe it hurts a little. Wink

*waiting in the corner to see the decision*

July!

Hi Rae,

I've been working on mine since you mentioned it after the Nocturne Editor Pitch!  I'd love for it to be in July.  It'll kill me to wait until August - but I'm just grateful you organize things like this, so I'll survive if it's later.

Anna

July it is!

You can do this. Everyone of you. I hope to get lots and lots of entries. I know it's pushing things, but you can do it. Seriously. You can.

Rae

Rae --

do you have any idea how long the bites submissions are waiting to be reviewed these days?  I'm in a quandry...i submitted a Bite just over 3 months ago, but I heard that they're being answered faster than that. So, now I'm wondering if mine is even there (since there's not an autoreply on the submissions).  If it's not, and I have to resubmit, then I want in on the pitch! (Whether it's July or August!)  If it is there, then I need to grow some patience. Tongue out Any ideas?

Jodie...send a polite emai to confirm that your original was received.....that's what I did.....it did take them a few weeks but they confirmed they had it......

it can't hurt

woohoo!

I'm in!

Rae - mine's a prequel to a ms in the slush. Should I mention it in my blurb? or not?

I'm designing the bite so it should stand alone in case the ms gets an 'R'...

SueB

OK, so I did it....

I sent a note asking if they'd received it. If they haven't, I'm in for the pitch!

Yikes!

Yikes - we went from July 7th, to maybe later, to July 1st? Surprised OMG. My computer was out of commission for a while so I'm just a little Wink behind. I guess I better get crackin' I have a lot of work to do. Laughing

You know

It's not exactly right to ask us at the Nocturne thread not even 24 hours ago if wed want it moved back, and then go ahead with July 1st anyways.

That was a waste of time imo.

This is just a baby book.. promise.. we can do this..

Hugs and support to all!!!

Lou,

In all fairness, I have to do what the editor wants, when it's suitable for s/he and there was fair warning about this happening rather quick. There's been talk of this since the last Nocturne Pitch. I'm sorry you felt as though this was a waste of time.

Rae

Yikes, just found this thread!

Rae, I'll get going on my blurb!  Please thank Ann-Leslie from us for sponsoring a second pitch.

I've been prepping my MS since right after the last Nocturne pitch contest, when you announced there would be an opportunity to pitch for Bites.  Mine needs a final editting pass, but I'll put nose to the grindstone this week to get the finishing touches on both this and my other contest entry!

This is so exciting, good luck to everyone!     Cool

Rae

I don't blame you, nor am I saying it's your fault that it happened this way first off. Nor am I saying that the pitch is a waste of time. I'm very sorry if it came across that way, that was definitely not my intent

What i am saying is that TPTB decided to have you come over to the nocturne thread, and ask our opinion  because it's like telling the nocturne fans/authors to be that "hey! we want your opinion..but..oh wait..our bad..it doesn't matter anyways" which is just unfair to them. That's my gripe, it's not about me, but as anyone whos anyone knows, my 'baby' so to speak is Nocturne, and keeping the fans happy even if im not the host of the thread

now saying that; I'm looking forward to pitch. I have my 2paragraphs done, can I send it to you now Rae, or should I wait until the 1st?

Lou,

I take full responsibility for asking on the Nocturne thread. The dates were given to me by Ann Leslie. I'm the one who decided to take the first available dates because as I said before, people knew about this back when we did the original pitch. So, I apologize for asking over there before making the executive decision to go forward with this--only because again, the people who were in the previous pitch knew that this was going to happen.

You all can send your pitches to me when you're ready. You don't have to wait until the first, in fact, I encourage everyone to get them in BEFORE the 1st. The sooner I have them, the sooner I can email them to Ann Leslie and the sooner she can pick five entries.

Rae

Well then that's the problem

Not everyone either knew about, or participated in the first pitch. This makes it a little unfair to those people

and that's all im going to say about the subject from here on out.

Suggestion

For future reference, since I coordinate ALL of the pitches, the easiest way to know when I'm talking about it or when I launch a new pitch discussion is to friend me. It takes two seconds, that way, if you go to your profile page, which the majority of us do, you can look down and see that I added a new discussion and the topic of it. That way, no one is missing out on anything.

Rae

Rae

Excellent suggestion.  I also facebooked you.  Hmmm that sounds a lot like a boxing move.

Mandy

Is there a light at the end of this tunnel or do I just have tunnel vision from staring at the computer screen so long?

Mandy,

Yes, it does sound like a boxing move. Wish I had my boxing smiley over here. ;)

I added a whole lot of people this afternoon. Going to facebook now.

I can't believe I'm doing this

Oh gosh, I can't believe I'm doing this!  I stumbled on this challenge today, something told me to sign up on harlequin today.  Smile  I am so in on this!  I've had this story idea running in and out of my head for years but didn't have the time to sit down and write like I wanted to.  This is perfect.

I can't wait to see what everyone puts out there.  I love the regular Nocturne series, this is too neat.

Question is, can I get my ms completed and edited and sent in by July 1st?  Wink  I'm biting my nails too.

3k left to go...

I think I'm going to break a sweat going into the last leg of this race, lol.

I'm almost there...got a rough draft of my blurb, too. Hope to get everything to you, Rae, by the weekend. Of course it meant I had to abandon packrat....that game totally sucked up too much of my time! lol. Talk about addictive...I had to quit cold turkey to finish my noc bite... I develped the shakes! lmao!

Welcome to the madness, A.C.!!!! lol!

SueB

Thanks for the

Thanks for the welcomes!  I really appreciate it.  :)

Last night was funny because I share a computer with my husband and once our toddler goes to bed we negotiate computer time.  lol!  I actually got 3 1/2 hours straight this time.  Amazing. Surprised

If this is something I'd like to make into a series, how would I go about explaining that in the pitch?  There are other characters in the world I created that are begging for their stories to be told too.  lol.

~~Waving back to Rae

I decided that my paranormal is way too light for the bites, and i think, even for Nocturne.  I just finished a book by Vivi..~~waving to Vivi~~ and thought...

Oh geez...I'm so not dark enough.  Sexy, yes.  But dark, no.

Let me tell you, my imagination went crazy last nite, with the storms, and the vampires and headless wonders and biting of tongues off...blech! Tongue out

So...i'm rooting for you all.  My fingers are crossed, which makes typing very difficult, but go get 'em.  Have at 'em.  Knock 'em dead! Rah Rah!  I'm your cheerleader!

LOL @ Nini. I try to

LOL @ Nini.

I try to program my dreams to help my current stories along.  My Nocturne story got really scary the other night.  DH was Sonny and I was Cher, and our kids had gotten us a 1960s washer/dryer set in harvest gold and olive green.  The scary part was we liked them so we sang "I've got you, babe."  What that has to do with shape shifters, werewolves or vampires, I don't know.

Okay.. I did it..  I hit

Okay.. I did it..

I hit the sent button and my entry is off to the races for Rae's inbox...

Ooh.... I hope my beloved hero and his dragon do wonderful stuff for me.... :)

luck to all.

Oh Micki...

I just wanna keep saying "You're so fine, you blow my mind, hey mickey!"

Anyhow....Harvest gold and green?  Sonny and Cher...oh horrors!!!  That's a definite nightmare!  Especially since you apparently weren't using the spin cycle!

As for shapeshifters, werewolves, etc...who knows?  Cher's tall enough and she flips personas an awful lot.  And Sonny, well, before he died..he could have been something otherworldly.

Way to go Nikki!

Congrats!!!  How do you feel?

Two of my favorite lines are from a Sherri Kenyon book, Dragonswan.  Love it, love it, love it!!!

"Be kind to dragons, for thou art cruncby when roasted and taste good with ketchup."

And then the ending..

"Be kind to dragonswans, for thou art gorgeous when naked and taste good with cool whip."

Thanks Nini  Ahhh... you

Thanks Nini

Ahhh... you picked one of my favorite writers.. :) I'm just salivating and waiting anxiously for her Acheron book.. and I loved that little book of hers.. one of my favorites..

My dragons are different.. they are connected to a male, of course a very handsome Alpha one, and set as a tattoo on their arm and can rise away from them when needed.. so they're not shifters.. nor are they going to be a dragon-rider....

My hands were shaking as I hit the sent.. and part of my head is still thinking I could have done better..

Afternoon'

Sue, Don't get me started on PackRat.

A.C. If you're chosen to pitch to Miss Tuttle directly, then you can tell her you hope to make this a series. If not and you chose to go the old fashioned route, just note that while the book can be a stand-alone, you think you have a great idea for a series to go with the book.

Nini, just because you don't think it's dark enough perhaps Ann Leslie won't. Honestly, this whole thing is a crap shoot. It's hitting the right editor at the right time, so don't give up. Ann Leslie may see something in yours. If every book was the same, if every author had the same voice, how boring would that be?
