I had really really long hair. Seriously long. Glorious almost to my waist long... and I just chopped it off. It's a bit longer than chin length now. I am donating it to Angel Wigs for Kids (cancer patients).
There's about 12-16 inches of usable hair for the wig. And then the hairdresser cut off another 2 inches of my hair while trimming it into a style. Man I miss my hair so much and I feel absolutely naked without it....
It's a great cause though!

great cause
that is a good cause for your hair to go to and shorter hair sounds better for summer

yeah, I'd always planned to donate it once I started growing it out. And the summer just gave me the added motivation to make the chop NOW.
I haven't given my hair more than a slight trim in five years! Huge change for me. So for the past year my family has been saying "so when are you chopping it? Cut it now or I'm doing it in your sleep". This weekend my sister was home and we made a scene of it. She took pictures of the chop!

are you gonna display the pictures here?

Maybe. I didn't look at the pics, my sister took them. I was scowling and sleep deprived when I had them taken. So I don't know if I look dragged out of bed in 'em! I might come back and post the shot of the braid at least.
Aw, it'll grow back before
Aw, it'll grow back before you know it! I donate mine about every 5 years to Locks Of Love. Just did it a year ago, and my hair is finally long enough again to pull back into a short ponytail. I may have a bad 'do for a while, but somewhere out there are a couple of kids with my hair!
Always wanted...
Always wanted to do that. I've never grown it that long before.

Locks of Love...
I donated mine a few years back to them. May let it grow out again to donate...just haven't decided if I feel like putting up with the length again.

Yeah Christa... I asked them to cut it to an inch below my shoulder... instead I got almost two inches ABOVE the shoulder. It's a dramatic change!

I like the new look
I like the short hair on you and Angel Wigs is such a wonderful program. I have a guy friend who does it. It takes him a couple years to get it about as long as yours was then chop chop. People didn't recognize him without all the hair!

Oh WOW! Big change--but it is cute now and it will grow back. My 16 year old is growing her hair right now to donate. She and one of my girlfriends (and the youth leader at church) are going to donate their hair this summer. Having once been a pediatric oncology nurse I can't begin to tell you what a wonderful thing you are doing.

Thanks Bonsal and Nancy,
Thanks Bonsal and Nancy, glad you think it suits me, it's going to take some getting used to!
Christa... it will grow fast for a while now, but once my hair got long it grew kind of slowly. The longer it is for me, the slower the growth is.
And yeah... this is definately something people should do if they can.
Last time I let my hair get long, they cut off six inches when I went in for a "trim" asking for an inch to be taken off... GRRR... And then it didn't seem long enough to try to donate, so I got another small trim that ended up with the hair being at my chin again. (I honestly fear going to get my hair cut now, no matter what shop I go to, they don't understand what "one inch" is)
It seems like a waste that I've never donated my hair before now...
Wow Janet
Your hair was so long and very healthy/shiny. It is a great cause. My best friends little nephew, one yr old, was just recently diagnosed with a cancerous tumor in his tummy. He is getting treatment right now so his hair just started to fall out. It came out in a big chunk when he was playing with his hair and it kind of freaked him out so his daddy shaved it all off. He is too young to really realize anything about his hair, but I'm sure that a little girl going through that would love to have shiny new hair to use.
I think that the new length looks really cute on you.
Margie :)
Excellent
Your hair looks great short! What an awesome cause!

Wow!!
Getting that much cut off is a huge deal. It looks really nice.
Margie... the poor tyke!
Margie... the poor tyke! It's too bad that a kid (let alone anyone) has to go through that. I hope him and the family get through it quickly and safely. I hope for the best.
I donated to Locks of Love
I donated to Locks of Love last year when I was in the States. Like you I had hair down to practically my waist, and they had to cut itshorter than my shoulders cuz it was so frazzled on the ends. It's now about 2 inches past my shoulders. So I know it will grow back fast.

I know it seems like the hair slows down growing as it gets longer, but it actually doesn't...it just gets harder to notice the new growth. Now if you had grey roots you had to color all the time, you'd notice it then.
Cancer is such a scary word/disease. But i especially hate hearing it connected to a child. Poor little guy.

Oh, cute, cute! I'll bet you're loving the short hair in the summer heat.
Hi Janet
Yeah, the little boy is back in the hospital this week because he got a fever that won't go away. I haven't talked to my friend so I don't know how he is doing now. Poor baby.
Today, I saw another friend with long waist length hair. It was cut to her chin! Looked really cute on her. She also donated her hair to Locks of Love.
Margie :)
Wow! I admire you so much!
I just wanted to say how much I admire you for growing your hair for donation to a wig program. I donated mine a few years back but never heard if they used it or not. It is long enough to donate again but I am going to have to find a place here in Calgary that knows what to do with it once it is cut. this will probably be the last time I can donate hair as I am starting to get a few gray ones.
Don't you get a warm fuzzy feeling hearing such a great story as this one! That's why I read romance.

And by the way... my sister donated hair two years ago to the same place, Angel Wigs for kids... and she got confirmation that her hair was used in a wig....
