It occured to me that in writing this blog, I could make a place that you all could come to and post ideas for threads, Q & A's, Editor Pitches...themes and the like.
So, here it is. Fill it up. Is there something you'd like to see on the Home & Hearth forums that isn't there? Would you like an old thread to come back? What line would you like to see as the next pitch challenge?

Why read romance?
Rae, there is a question that's been bothering me about romance fiction. I was going to start a blog to discuss it, but how much better it would be to have it as a Forum topic, if possible:
Why do you, the reader, read romance?
We know that romance makes up more than 50% of the popular fiction market. We know that hot is in, and cowboys are in, and adorable kids in trouble are in. But what does that mean?
There are so many calls on our time and money. Why spend your time and money on romance fiction?
What do you, as the reader, get from reading romance that you don't get from TV, shopping, your other interests, hanging out with friends, talking to a shrink... or even being with your man?
Maybe titillation? No, I don't think of romance readers as voyeurs. (Ick.) Fantasy that makes you forget your sad little life? No, romance readers aren't losers.
Maybe it's reading about the magic of a difficult relationship that suddenly goes right---that helps you get through some hard times of your own? About how to keep on keeping on? About how to love life, and find someone to share that love?
Tell me, please. Why read romance?

Supers!
Silly girl! Supers need another pitch!!
Sally ~ I started reading when I found my aunt's romance novels. They were historicals and alot of Native American stuff was popular. I read them to escape. I read out of curiousity. I didn't start wanting to write geared towards publication...until I became a single mom and I wanted to control the "what if's". I love the emotional roller coaster. I love the thought of someone reading my book and getting the emotional highs and lows and cheering for my characters.

I'm trying to think of the best place to put that thread because it should be on all the boards as a topic. However, learning this new format, I'm not sure if we can do that on here--we used to be able too. But it is a great topic, however, I don't know that I can answer it with one answer because there are different things and reasons that motivate me to read romance.
Chelle, we just had a Supers pitch, so that won't be happening for awhile. So sorry. Trying to think of the ones we haven't had and I think we've done them all. Maybe not a Nocturne pitch. Hmm.

Pitches...
Well, I'm with Chelle. Another Super pitch would be lovely.
Or a SSE pitch.

Reading romances
honestly, I don't know how I ended up with romance. My mom does not read them, nor does my grandma. In fact, neither will touch anything labeled as such. But I think it started for me when I was close to my son's age (he's 11) and my bf's mom and older sister read Supers--so we snuck them and read them and wrote our own. We'd walk to the IGA and buy a pound of M&M's or Reece's PB cups and eat and write! And I've never stopped reading them. I love the falling in love thrill. That's it for me.

Hi. I have to spread the pitches out and make sure all of the lines are covered. I'll speak with the other hosts and see what we can come up with.

Why I read Romance
Hi ladies! I'm new to this but I wanted to weigh in on why I read romances.
I have only recently (within the last year) started reading HQ romances. And mainstream romances for about 5 years now. It started by accident for me. My husband bought me a book for Christmas because I like suspense. Only it turned out to be romantic suspense. I wasn't real happy but decided to read it anyway. I LOVED IT!!!
Last year, I was on a quest to read different types of books to understand the different classifacations. I picked up about 4-5 different HQ lines and discovered something about myself...I prefer romance to realism. I guess thinking back, I should have known that but I didn't. I don't like movies or stories when they don't end right, in my opinion. There's already too much doom and gloom in the world. When I seek entertainment, I want to escape. I want things to work out right. My husband laughs at this but...I want the happy ending.

I'm trying to think if we just had an Intrigue pitch--I know we had an SRS pitch with Patience Smith last year. I'm trying to coordinate something something with Dee.
