That's a good question!

Last night I did a chat to promote DUTY TO PROTECT (July SRS) and one of the chatters asked me, "What are three things on your bucket list?"

(Referring of course to the movie The Bucket List- and the list of things I'd like to do before I died.)

She really stumped me with that one!  I told her I'd like to travel...Europe, Australia, Hawaii. There are so many beautiful places in the world I want to see!  But I couldn't really come up with much else.

Skydiving?  I like the idea of the adventure, but I'm too big of a chicken.

Bungee jumping?  No, for the same reason.

A hot air balloon ride might be fun. Scuba diving maybe. Beyond that...<shrug>.  I don't know.

I want what most people want... good health, good friends, happy family.

I want to see my son get married and be able to play with my future grandchildren.

I want to write the best books possible and touch readers hearts with my stories.

I want security, a comfortable lifestyle, safety. Maybe I'm staid and boring. I can't think of many things I haven't already tried that I feel I must do.

So how about you?  What's on your bucket list?

adventure, life

Wow! That is a good question...

I must be staid and boring, too, though, because I could only come up with one hair-raising type thing that I would like to do.  Other than that, my list looks a lot like yours...

1) Travel, definitely, but I think that I would prefer Alaska over Hawaii as I am not much of a water person.  However, Europe, especially England, would be at the top of my list.  Australia, too.

2) Go back to school.  I'd really like to be able to earn a masters.  However, I think that one will have to wait until my kids are significantly older as I just don't see myself juggling parenting, work and school very well.

3) Have the Richard Petty NASCAR experience.  I think that I would like going around the track at 180+ miles per hour.  However, I do think that I am enough of a chicken that once would be enough.

Other than that, I want to know that I am a good mom and that I am raising my children to be productive, self-sufficient members of society.  I want to see them grow up, get married and have children of their own.

I want to feel assured that I am teaching my students well--not just language arts, but also life skills.  I want to look back on this time and think that I made a difference in their lives.

All in all, I am fairly content with my life the way it is now.  I have been blessed with a wonderful husband  and great kids.  (Even if they do drive me slowly insane some days when they can't be nice to each other Yell).  I have great parents who have taught me how to be a good mom by their example.  I still have a living grandparent.  I have a fulfilling job that has a lot of vacation time (recovery time, really, but it is all the same).  I'm healthy and I have a nice home and plenty to eat.

I guess my biggest hope is that I should never look back at this time in my life and wish that I had had something different and begin to take all of these blessings for granted.

Well, that got a little sappy--sorry about that.

J

J.

No need to apologize!  Sappy is just fine... we all tend to get that way when reflecting on our hopes and dreams, our family and future.

Thanks for adding to the discussion!

Bucket list?

Ooh, good topic, Beth.  H'm let me see....

1.) To be published once. Of course, I want this to be an ongoing career, but if I only had a short time to live, say a year or so, I'd be satisfied with once.

2.)  If I have a longer life, I want to see my daughter happily situated in her adult life.  I want her to be able to obtain the career she chooses.  And if she marries, I want to know she's picked a man who loves her and will treat her well.  If she chooses not to marry, then I pray she's content and lets nothing stop her from her other ambitions.  She's only six, but I think about this all the time.  Time passes quickly.

3.)  H'm.  Not sure.  I'd like to travel more, of course.  More money?  Well... it's nice, but not necessary.  Good health?  Definitely.  Along with that of my family's.

Would I do anything daring?  Well, I've already tried a few daring things, like rock climbing and diving off the high-dive (daring enough for this chicken) LOL.  So, I guess I'm like you, I'm pretty content with my life.  It might occasionally have it's ups and downs, but there's nothing much about it I'd change!  Smile

Amanda

Hi Amanda-

I know what you mean about your daughter!  Kids become such the focus and love of our lives that seeing them become happy and fulfilled adults is always a goal right in front of me. (And my son gets closer to adulthood all the time.  He's almost 15 now! Gulp!)

Rock-climbing... hmm.  That's one I hadn't thought about but that is something I'd like to try....maybe.  If it's not too high up. (See the chicken in me is already coming out!) Tongue out

Thanks for your input!

Yeah, rocking climbing...

...but notice I didn't say how high up I climbed - lol!  It wasn't very far, I confess.  Just enough to make me feel the accomplishment. Wink

Oh, and I forgot to add earlier that riding in a hot air balloon sounds like it'd be an awesome experience.  Romantic, too.

Hot Air Ballooning

What an experience that one is. I have done the rock climbing too (been there done that got the t-shirt). I like the ground too much, but everyone should try it once. It is good for us to step out of our comfort zones sometimes.

Beth, I am with you about the "security, a comfortable lifestyle, safety". WIth those come so many other things like the security in knowing you can try other things.

Personally, a continuing strong and loving relationship with my husband (now 26 years) and the financial security not to worry too much about the future.

That's is a good question!

That's is a good question! I need to use it that next time.

My list? ?Hmmmmm.

I want to live until my children are old enough to take care of themselves. Since losing my sister is 1996, I knew I wanted to be here to raise my children.

Write and publish 1 book.

I started traveling a couple of a few years ago and I am going to places I have never been. Ive been cruising with Brenda Jackson. Bahamas, Mexico - Canada is next. Still no Jamaica and Jamaica is on my list. I actually want to go to a resort. Africa is on my list too.

Short lists

My bucket list is pretty short and very much like the ones here.

Travel definitely...I want to see and experience different places and people.  I want to sit on the balcony of a villa in Italy, stand at the edge of a cliff in Scotland, and hear the sound of the ocean at Utah Beach.

I too want to live to see my kids grow up, and to have grandkids, and spoil them all rotten.

Otherwise...life is pretty good, and I don't have regrets.  I work hard at a job I adore, I have a great family, and we just moved into what I'd definitely call a dream house - to me, anyway.  There's no way I could honestly ask for any more than I've already been blessed with.

Travel wins!

Travel seems to be the winning list item.

Bonsal- LOL about liking the ground too much.

Star- Your cruises sound heavenly! Can I come?

Donna- Think I'll tag along with you to that Italian villa and cliff in Scotland too.  Travel is always better with someone to share it with! Laughing

SOunds like for the most part we're all pretty happy chickadees... but want to see more of the planet.  Hmmm... maybe we should organize a tour group!

Happy 4th of July!

A tour group

A tour group for readers could be very successful or very stressful. I can picture it now forty people on a bus each reading their own book and no one paying attention to the scenery going by. You would definitly need someone like my dh along as he would keep you informed of all the things you missed. Now a cruise might be okay if everyone agreed to put their books down and go ashore.

I guess my list would include travel and if I had the money to do it here's my dh and my list.

Bluebonnets in Texas, Poppies in California, the Smoky Mountains in spring and fall, Oklahoma (his father lived there way back) These are probably doable.

If we won the lottery:Bora Bora, Australia, New Zealand, Italy, Scotland, England, Monet's Garden at Givenchy and thousands of more places we have read about.

Dh would like a tour of baseball fields both minor and major and we would definiely see the USA that way.

However to be realalistic I am really happy to travel with my books. I learn so much about places through reading and then looking them up on the internet.

Have a good life!

Kaelee

That's an awesome travel list! I had to chuckle at your vision of the readers tour group...all of us with our noses in books, missing the scenery!

Sounds like my family's trip to Colorado about five years ago. We rented a car and drove through the glorious Rockies...and my son had his head down playing VIDEO GAMES on his Gameboy the whole time.  Every now and then my dh and I would fuss and tell him to look at the mountains.  He was unimpressed.  Dumb kid. (She says lovingly.)

To his credit, as an older and wiser teenager, he did notice the mountain views and enjoy them when our church youth group went skiing in CO a few years later.
