Stays in Vegas!! At least that's going to be my philosophy for the next four days! I really have not lead a sheltered life, but I have never flown and I have never been to Vegas. My two sisters and I are headed there tomorrow! So I will be gone for a few days, hopefully I'll get a little reading time in, but I wouldn't count on it....

Have fun!
I was just there but it's not the same now that I have kids. I also grew up there and it is too big for me now.
The big thing that is different is the food is so expensive. If you get a good deal on food then you get killed on the price of a soda or $2.95 for coffee. I did bring kool-aid single-serve packets to help not drink so much soda. (Bottled water ain't that cheap either.)
You may be gone already, but if not, the $9.00 tram ride that is good for the whole day is a great deal. It runs from the Sahara down to the MGM Grand and is air conditioned. It was nice to get off at stops and not walk on the street with the crowds and end up hot and bothered. The best free thing we did was the M&M's store in the mall by the MGM. There is a little tour and a free movie. Then you can see the lions at the MGM, too.

Thanks for the advice!
Our plane doesn't leave D/FW until 8:45 p.m., however we have to leave here at 1 p.m. to pick up my other sister and then avoid as much traffic as possible. I live 2 hours from the airport without traffic, so I can only imagine how it's going to be with traffic. My sisters and I are so excited we can hardly stand it.

I don't think I have ever been so tired!
I had a wonderful time in Las Vegas and the surrounding area. We left DFW airport at 8:45 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9 and returned this afternoon at 1:00ish. It was four days of non-stop going. It was my first trip to Vegas AND my first time to fly. I absolutely loved the flying part of the trip. I was just amazed at the light show I saw out the window Wednesday night as we departed DFW, then when we arrived at McCaren I was blown away again. However, as beautiful as the night flight was, the daytime flight today was even more awe inspiring for me. I felt like I was in Heaven as we flew between the layers of clouds. Then as we were approaching DFW and broke through the clouds so that we could see the ground again, I literally gasped as I saw the beautiful landscape from above. I saw so many things while we were on vacation. The Grand Canyon was just breathtaking. We rented a car so we could stop where we wanted and when we wanted, then toured the west rim of the Grand Canyon. I also talked my sisters into driving to California! We were only a few short miles from there and none of us had been, so we drove across the state line and took our picture.
I am so glad to be home, I finally finished one book at the airport and on the plane this morning. I love to go, but I'm sure glad to be home! Now to go pick up the pups tomorrow at the vet's office where they were boarded!

I don't know where you live, but did you know that there are several of us who live in the DFW area. We get together on a fairly regular basis. Penn coordinates us. If you're intersted you might post on her blog, or see if the email option works.
Glad you had a good trip.

I live in Durant, Oklahoma, however I come to the DFW area quite often during the summer. I will get in touch with Penn to get her to add me to the list. I would love to get together with you all sometime. I live so close to the border of Texas, and I teach in Texas, so I claim dual citizenship! LOL I literally grew up on the banks of the Red River, in SE Oklahoma.
Thanks for telling me about this group, I'd love to be a part of it!

I'm going to Vegas for four
I'm going to Vegas for four days next spring with a girl friend. I'm glad you had such a great time and plan on doing the same! One of the people I work with is flying down in August to get married there. Apparently things have changed for weddings in Vegas since when your only choice was being married by Elvis or the like in Chapel of Love.

I did enjoy Vegas and four days is definitely enough time. I thought we wouldn't be ready to come home, but we were. There was a lot we didn't get to see, but that just gives us an excuse to go back someday. :) I really wanted to see the Treasure Island show, but it was cancelled due to high wind conditions every night we were there. I did get the opportunity to see them interviewing and auditioning new pirates though....whew, those boys were hot! I walked out on the bridge and there were all of these muscled up guys in swim trunks and all of them had numbers written on their shoulders. It took me a little while to discover what they were doing, but mmmm they were hot to look at...even if I am old enough to be their mother!
There is a wedding chapel in a lot of the hotels and we saw several on the strip. My sister told me the major ones were off the strip. We did see lots of brides and grooms in their wedding attire in the casinos though.
The Stratosphere Tower is a must do at night! The lights of Vegas are spectacular. We flew in at night so saw them from the air also.
My favorite part of Vegas itself, was the Tigers and Dolphins at The Mirage. I love animals and those were awesome. It was worth the price of admission for me.
We rented a car and went to the Grand Canyon and then drove on to Laughlin and into California. My sister had done the tours before, so she suggested the car. It was worth every penny we spent on the day. It was actually less expensive to do that. Rent your car through a hotel, not one of the rental car places on the street.

Wow! Thanks. I'm getting
Wow! Thanks. I'm getting all kinds of good ideas for things to do while we're in Vegas. Those pirates sound good! And then there's all the things we were already thinking of doing. I'm looking forward to seeing those pictures and I'm glad you had such a good time.
