When I hear people talk about broken ankles I will never again blow it off as some minor injury. Dear GOD does this suck.
Hopefully
tomorrow, day 4 after surgery, will actually start feeling better. I
listened to Undomestic Goddess today. Cute book. Now I'm reading Violet
by Design, a great YA. If I just keep my mind focused elsewhere I don't
think bout the ankle and all those screws. ACK!

I just sprained my ankle
I just sprained my ankle about four years ago and it still hurts now and again. I can't imagine what you are going through. I hope things will start to heal for you now. I hope you have a full recovery without many after effects. Nothing I am going to say will make you feel better but it might help to know I sympathize with you and feel for you. Read lots. What is a YA?
When I get a little money I buy books, and then if any is left I buy food and clothes..-- Erasmus
Kaelee, YA stands for
"Young Adult". If you search for YA, you'll find that quite a few of us read YAs. And not all b/c we're middle school English teachers and have to.

Hey!
I read a lot of the YA books because I like them. I have even managed to get Mark into the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. Some I read to see if they are appropriate for my classroom, but some I read because I enjoy. For example, I would NEVER put Libba Bray's Gemma Doyle triology in my classroom library for fear of parent complaints, but that is a great set of books. Granted, I most likely would not spend as much time in that section of the bookstore if I didn't teach middle/high school, but there is some really great YA literaure out there that is appropriate for adults.
mbl--My sympathies for your ankle. My mom broke hers a couple of years ago and still has some problems with it. In fact, she had to trade vehicles with my dad because she has too much pain in the ankle when she tries to drive a stick shift now. (Although, my dad and I think that maybe she just wanted the newer vehicle!) I hope that you start feeling better soon.

Libba Bray
Is one my dd's FAVORITE authors. She hasn't read the last of the trilogy yet, but it's on her list.
I'm a HUGE YA fan. Always have been. The YA market these days is so incredibly diverse and the quality amazes me. It helps keepme in the minds of my students too. I teach grades 9-12 and it's easy to forget what it's like to be 16 and 17.
Thanks for the get well wishes y'all. I finally got a good night's sleep. I quit taking the high powered pain killers because they were making me crazy. Now I'm taking one slight pain killer every six hours and I'm doing better. I sure hope I can keep driving my standard. I LOVE my car and I will be VERY SAD if my ankle injury makes me change vehicles. :-( It's bad enough that I missed half of Rome.
I need some book recommendations for the next couple weeks. I'm almost out of books.
I haven't read the last of
I haven't read the last of the Gemma Doyle trilogy yet either. It is in my TBR, but I have been reading other things. I first got hooked on the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series when I started The Lightning Thief with my seventh graders. Plus, I wanted to finish up the Beckets of Romney Marsh saga. By then, I had rather burned myself out on historicals, so I started reading some suspenses. Now, I am finishing up the (something like 20 books) that I started at the first of the summer when I was going through a slump and couldn't find anything I wanted to read. Most of them have been pretty good books, I was just restless. I am hoping to get to the last of the trilogy before school starts in August.
As for recommendations, I would think that there would be plenty around here.
If you haven't picked up The Lighntning Thief, I highly recommend it and its companion books, but they are very fast reads since they are YA books. I read the last one in a day, and it usually takes me a couple of days to get through a 400 page book. Here is my review for Book 1:

Julie Miller's latest two HIs were really good, as usual.
Hmmm, even with my list of reviewed books, it is difficult to recommend without knowing someone's tastes.
It does sound like you are starting to feel better, so that is a good sign.
I think that my mom mainly switched vehicles with my dad because she spends a lot of time in heavy traffic. Keeping her foot continually on the clutch bothered her during peak traffic times when she had to drive longer distances than just around town. Since her main journey is to my grandmother's nursing home--about 45 minutes away--her ankle would frequently bother her by the time she got home. Also, she didn't stay in regime her PT recommended after the surgery for as long as she should have because of her schedule with my grandmother. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you won't have to give up your car--that would be a real bummer.

MaryBeth,
Hope you feel better soon! On the bright side (if there is one) look at all the reading you're doing!
