Make Mine Supers (7)
It's not just the size that makes a Superromance super. It's not even just the down deep plots or the characters with real conflicts and real, serious problems on their hands. Running the gamut from contemporary comedy to heart-rending family drama, what makes a Super so incredibly super is that we get six of them every month and we're the happiest campers on the planet because the satisfaction is that good! So if you've been "super-ed", pop on in and share the love!

Sneaking in
The top five! Woo--hoo! LOL. Morning Sam and Holly. And everyone.
Gonna be a hot one here today.
And it's Molly's third b-day!! Wahhhh! She's so excited though. She's been singing the birthday song for weeks.

You guys were BUSY
You guys were BUSY yesterday! I thought I was only away for half a day but it must've been 1 1/2 because last night there were 45 posts!!!
Carrie, I do have Dr. Crook's book and have read about half of it. I have a couple other books about candida as well and have read parts of them. I'm a non-fiction flunkie, completely, but I agree, his has really good info.
Ellen, thanks for the rec of Friday Night Lights. We're going to finish the whole Angel series soon and I think that might be next.
Jeannie, fried foods and vacation also. Definitely. It's a job to eat healthy and when I'm on vacation I don't want to work. And I didn't, other than some writing. *g*
Holly, caffeine is the secret, huh? I knew it! lol I'm sooo not a coffee drinker, think it is the most vile beverage ever, and I'm currently off of pop, so I'm living a terribly caffeine-free life. It's painful. (Yes, looking for sympathy here. LOL)
Hi Beth, great to see you here! Can't wait to meet you in SF. :)
Deb, you're ahead of me on the January book. I'm working on line edits and the reader letter now. Congrats on getting yours done!
It's interesting the things that make us happy sometimes. I found out this week that they're going to start offering kickboxing Mon-Thu in the fall. Right now it's only 2 days a week. I'm SO excited to go 4 times!! I love it and am getting addicted (and could definitely use more than 2 workouts a week.)

Spiders? Snakes? Yes, I'll take snakes any day. Actually, I'd prefer butterflies. :)
I don't know why I'm thinking of this (must be the butterfly idea) but when we were at the San Diego Zoo, they had a little hummingbird exhibit you could walk through, and this women had very brightly painted fingernails and the hummingbirds would land right on her fingers. It was just cool.
Amy, I imagine kickboxing would be very addictive. I love hitting our speedbag and punching bags...

Super Heroes
Ellen, you always come up with such fun games!
If I were a Superhero, my name would be Super Mom and my powers would be X-ray vision and unlimited patience and stamina because that's what the job requires. My arch villains would be ear infections, temper tantrums and teenage sarcasm.
That was my PC response. My non-PC response is that I would be Super B*tch and my power would be estrogen because hormones rule the world. PMS would be my arch nemesis. Yes, I'm a tad hormonal today.
Tasha, S-mores sound like a good antidote to feeling left behind. I remember Goober well, shudder. Fortunately, my sons' palates matured and I don't have to look at the stuff anymore. It always appeared pre-digested to me.
Ellen, I can pretend to be an extrovert in small groups, but I find the sheer numbers at National a little overwhelming. I probably walk around looking like a deer in the headlights. Except for the year I was nominated for a RITA. That was a magical conference where I felt like a princess!
Jeannie, I'm glad your daughter's horse found a good home. That should help ease the loss....
Roz, you are a true heroine!! Try as I might, I can't force myself to climb on the roof. I so admire you for going up there with caulking gun in hand!
Carrie

BABY, I'M YOURS ~ Superromance ~ March 2008
Wow, Roz,
(hope that isn't overuse of commas, Betty
), (yikes, another one!) But Roz: a tarantula and roof-caulking. What a time you're having.
Ellen, your comment about practising faking extroversion was kind of endearing, and so relate-able. Now I want to make you a pot of tea and find a quiet corner for you by a window with a view.
Holly, I love connected books, too, even it's a very loose connection, a name or place mentioned that lets me know we're still in the world of a previous character. Your list surprised me--that's more books than I realised you'd written already. And you weed, too...
Which makes me think what my superhero name would be: Supermuller. No idea too simple to be complicated! No tangent that can't be followed! (Not to be confused with Sam's Worrygrrl, whose obsessive thinking actually produces results.) And my nemesis would be
VictoTime.Speaking of time, can the rest of you tell me something about dressing for a wedding? Is it true that people don't wear sandalfoot stockings with dressy sandals anymore? Bare feet? Like for the beach? Am I very old-fashioned, or am I being steered wrong about that?
Happy Birthday to Molly.

Superhero? I'd definitely
Superhero? I'd definitely be Buffet Woman--able to eat everything in sight and not gain a pound. My nemesis would be Portion Control Man.
Carrie--I love Super B*tch, by the by...
. And Betty, love the Comma Hero, too!
Roz--I can't believe you think nothing of getting on a roof, but fear spiders. Me--I'd rather sleep with a tarantula than get on a roof. I used to have a tarantula at school--I'd get it out every now and then. Their little hairs are itchy, though.
I used to be fine with snakes, but I've had too many close rattlesnake calls, so now I steer clear. Spiders don't bother me at all. I catch and release. The only ones I dispatch are the black widows.
Holly--Congrats on the pin!

Mowing with flames....
LOL, Holly, we were simu-mowing! Could you hear me cursing from Arizona? Realized my mower was leaking gas and raced to get the yard done before it ran out of gas or caught fire. Now, I get to trade it in on a more eco-friendly electric mower. After payday of course! Yay!
And major congrats on the 41 books, Holly! What an amazing accomplishment!
Have I mentioned lately that mechanical objects are not my friend? Treadmills, lawnmowers, they're all plotting against me.
Caron, I LOVE to mull. It's one of my favorite pastimes. Although, I do a lot of Sam's worrying, too.
Tarantula, Roz?! I missed that in the skimming.

Rae booted us into a new room I see. And you ladies are such a chatty bunch! LOL...thanks to everyone for the get well wishes. I'm feeling much better than yesterday that's for sure. I'm still sore but that's to be expected. Certain foods make me nauseaus too. So, I'm still on a bland diet. Lots of ramen noodles in my foreseeable future. Perhaps I'll drop a few pounds before National. (There's GOTTA be a silver lining to this!) I've been cruising the net for dresses. I have my Rita dress but i wanted a new dress for the HQ party. The Four Seasons! Gotta dress for the occasion, right? Anyway, I had better order now or forget about it because I'm cutting it close as it is. Anyone else behind on their National wardrobe? Chiming In On Super heroes--can we be heroines
Did I miss saying Happy B.D. to Molly?
Carrie--I like your PMS super hero. I would be Superworduser. Not grammarian, but stringing words together like, say---Nora. She's a phenomonen.
Jeannie--When I worked at the elementary school in Phoenix, I was shaking down one of our little tough guys that someone accused of having stolen their lunch money. I made him shell out his pockets on my desk---and aack---the first thing out was his "pet" tarantula he'd brought to school. My last shakedown at close quarters.
Holly---Congrats on your 25 book pin. I'm shooting for 50, maybe in one of the upcoming conferences. It's cool to get any of them. We'll all cheer when they give your yours. At your rate, you'll reach 100 before me. Heck, maybe we'll get our 50 together. I'm slowing down. If you have another year like the last one---I think you will get to 50 first.
Caron---I had something I was going to ask you, and it's gone out of my head. Don't laugh, either. It happens too much lately. Scary for a writer.
I'm trying to assemble clothes to take to S.F. I've decided to go black and white this year. Colors I like and easy to coordinate. I'll try to keep the suitcase weight down. Got a note from my airlines---first checked bag is 15.00 if under 50# 50-75 65.00 I guess beyond that they make you take stuff out. Sheesh. Oh I long for the good old days.

Geez, 50+ posts and I can't remember a thing! That's what having a new
babypuppy in the house will do to ya!We did find an angel and my DD is the new "mom"!! I think this is great training for not having a baby at a young age!! Oh, and the puppy's name:
Harley

This and that
Thank you for all the birthday wishes for my Molly! She is hunkered down with her new doll and her Pinkalicious book. Her older brothers are fighting over the Little People toys. LOL.
Love the superheros! I cannot think of one. Everytime I read one I'm like, that's fab! Why can't I think of that??
We are in the 90's heat-index wise, muggy. Almost there air temp wise too. Even with the CA my bedroom (upstairs) is hot hot hot. My lone vent barely breathes out cold air. This needs to be fixed. Probably next year, though...
Holly, we have a push reel mower. It doesn't get the long skinny stuff, like overgrown dandelions and those green skinny spiky things. However, I can't bring myself to care enough to get a regular mower.
My kids use it. Both the 8 and 12 yo can muscle it around.
Carrie that's so scary about the mower! We had a neighbor who had a visitor who had a car (follow that? LOL) that had a leaking gas tank. Yikes! Hope you get a nice new happy mower.
I hear the clanking of dishes--uhoh--dh was supposed to save them for me. He cooked, I clean--Molly wanted nachos for dinner so that's what we had. Mmmm, then we had Dora cake. Yum!
So bummed I didn't opt for RWA--wanted to--didn't think I could get on the plane. I'm a chicken, I know. Dh was all set to go too--so funny, he just assumes he'll go along with me! Probably b/c he 's conferenced with me before--when I was still an audiologist. Writers can't be any crazier partiers than audiologists. Holy cow.
Okay gotta run! Have a good night, all!

Audiologists are crazy? Really? Who knew? Not me, for sure.
And I dunno. Writers are quite the crazy lot.
Maybe there will be conference closer in the next few years if you don't want to fly? Given rising prices and the horrible way the airlines treat us anymore, soon it may come that only the people close enough or willing to drive show up.
Hey, Holly RWA is going to be in NYC again in few years. We can take the TRAIN again! Oooo, and maybe we can pick up some of the other folks along the way. Ellen, you're in Syracus, right? The train stops there on the way from Erie to NYC. We can pick you up on the Romance Writer Party Train. <G> And maybe a bunch of your chapter buds. Kathy Shay is in Rochester. We stop there on the way.

Fear of flying
Ami, I had a serious fear of flying, too, but I think it's pretty much gone. It may sound weird, but basically, when we went to San Diego, I was pretty freaked out on the first leg, and then there was a point where we were flying over Kentucky, I think and I remembered on the news that morning a young woman had been taking from a Walmart parking lot there, and they found her body, sadly, a few days later. Then I thought of a friend of mine whose husband was struggling with cancer, and a few other similar tragic situations that were happening at ground level.
It seems obvious, but it was really driven home for me at that moment that you can be sitting at home or walking out the Walmart or going to work and have something terrible happen, and we can't be afraid every moment of our lives -- you don't have to be in a plane for something terrible to happen, which may sound like bent reasoning, but you know, this is what I was thinking. It really makes no difference whatsoever where you are, up or down.
I also remembered that Eddie Murphy moment where he was helping people get over fear of planes in a movie (Holy Man?) and he says "if the plane is going down, what are you thinking about?" and the guy says something about how afraid he is and the Murphy character says, "No, you're thinking about how lucky you've been, how happy you are, how much love you've had in your life" (something to that effect) and you know, I think that perspective does help.
Again, it may sound bent, but this past June when I was flying, I was so relaxed I was falling asleep on landings! *G* Normally I have a death grip on the seat and wouldn't take my eyes off the window so I could make sure we were where we were supposed to be! LOL This time on the way out I enjoyed the view, marveled at the speed, and gave dh the window seat on the way back and then I dozed off. Dh was impressed.
I understand the fear, but don't let it hold you back from things because if you think about it, planes are no more scary than walking out of Walmart, illness, or driving down a highway.
Sam, stepping off the soapbox

Happy Birthday to Molly. I want to come to the nacho and cake party next year. Sounds perfect!
Susan--the RWA train leaves the station in 2011. Awesome! You had me smiling just imagining how fun that will be. Definitely count me in. Sam? You on board? (That's a train reference, fyi.) Oooh, I wish that was this year!
Sam--I'm so relaxed about planes I fall asleep before we leave the runway usually. One time I fell asleep seconds after boarding and woke up what felt like a few minutes later to see everyone leaving the plane. I asked some passing woman if we were in L.A. already and she said, "The plane is on fire. We're evacuating." Good thing I noticed, huh?

Love Train
A train car full of romance writers really will be the Love Train. Woo-hoo!
Christyne - I checked out the pix of your pup and Harley is adorable! How fun.
Kim - Glad you're up and about and feeling better.
Carrie - You take "smokin" to a whole new level! I'm crossing my fingers for a good deal on lawn mowers.
I know I'm missing a few people, so waves and hugs. We've had a short run of a summer cold, today it reached DS. He feels great - as long as he's well medicated.
Which brings me to my superpower. I will be Master Mixer and will be able to create everything from the perfect chocolate martini to amoxicillin. I will never have to wait in line for the pink stuff again. My greatest foes shall be antibiotic-resistant bacteria and bowls of snack mix missing those little rye chips.
My sidekick will be Dishwasing Diva - making sure I always have a clean glass and/or medicine cup.
Tasha
Thursday!!
Kim, Hope you find the other dress! My conference clothes are easy this year...basic black with colors mixed and matched in. I'm taking a basic black cocktail dress for one party, and black and brown one for the other. It's fun when Susan and I shop together. I head to the neutral colors...she goes to the colors, the brighter the better! We never fight over sales items!
Aurelene, I'd have been watching you mow with envy. Maybe I'll get my push mower for my birthday! LOL I do have a nice little herb garden!
Oh, Roz, I haven't even started to dream about 50 yet! I'll be there cheering when you get yours!
Christyne!!! Harley (aka Harlequin) is beautiful! What a lovely way to mark this wonderful moment in your life...with a dog who will love you for years to come!
LindaC, I'm no Superlibrarian, but Out of Order is my nemesis, too!
Ami, It would do fine here I have very few weeds (I battle those dandelions all spring by hand!)!! Of course, if I get one, your kids are already trained in using them, so maybe I'll borrow them?? <g> Sorry the plane freaked you out! Your doctor can give you anxiety pills that would help you get on one. Although a good friend recommends alcohol to help! LOL
Hi, Jeannie!
Susan, Oh, yeah, another train trip...this time in a big private room where the romance party can begin!!
Sam, Very good thoughts on getting over the fear. People ask if I worry that my husband's a cop. I say no. He could be a very boring, safe occupation and get hit by a bus. Or be a cop--a job he loves--and get hit by the bus. Why wouldn't I be happy that he got to do a job he loved before the bus came?
Uh, Ellen, there's relaxed and then there's TOO relaxed!! Yikes!
Tasha, aka Master Mixer...hoping the summer cold is gone for good soon!!
My dh is working very long hours the next few days, so I'm hoping to get lots of work done!! My work starts today by picking up the guts Ella just ripped from one of her babies. DIsemboweling toys happens to be my dogs favorite hobby!

Bloated. Gassy. Sore. That's me. Recovering from surgery is FUN. What's more fun is today I try to go back to work. I've been searching my closet for loose fitting clothing and I've come up with one pair of knit cotton capris that I may end up having to wear tomorrow too because I do not have anything that's not a wee bit snug on the ab area. And, the dress I was going to order online is on back order until the 22nd!! Crud. Now I have to go to the....mall. Ugh. I hate the mall.

Disemboweling toys
Holly, does Ella continue to carry around the carcasses of her babies after the stuffing is gone? My German Shepherd does. I have resolved to throw one stuffless kitty in the trash next time my dog is outside. If she sees me, she'll be digging it out of the trash can...along with assorted other goodies.
Count me in for the romance party train in 2011! I'll fly to the departure city and take the train the rest of the way!
Sam, I'm with you on flying. Though I haven't yet quite achieved Ellen's zen state. Or was it merely exhaustion?
I used to be a very nervous flyer but once I started working on letting go of my control issues in general, flying was just another area where I had to admit I wasn't in control. And probably a good thing. I imagine even a pilot with a few drinks under his belt would do a much better job than I ever could!
Christyne, Harley is absolutely adorable! She looks kind of like a long-legged Jack Russell. And how very smart of you to time her arrival for summer break so your DD could ease her transition.
Alas (oh, I mean yay), my lawn mower will limp along for the rest of the season. DXH (dear ex husband) looked at it while he was here to sign some paperwork and gave me tips on how to eke out a few more months. One of them involved applying bar soap to the seam where the tank is leaking. Men are such fountains of information!
Aurelene and Holly, I admire your tenacity with the push mower.
Ami, I'm glad Miss Molly's birthday was a good one. Nachos and birthday cake, it doesn't get much better than that!
I remember the pink stuff well. We did more ear infection runs than I care to think about.

Kim--hope things even out for you soon! I want you in tip top shape for San Fran.
Carrie--glad the mower is working. Nice to know about the soap thing. Strange, but nice.
I'm on my 4th day of faking extroversion in this class and all I can say is, "I'm tired." Sheesh. I'm ready to go back to my cubicle and quietly write some numbered procedures.
Did you all see that Super author Margaret Watson has an interview up at eHQ about her triplet trilogy? It sounds great. Margaret spilled a drink on me last year at a party and I still like her--that's what a cool, great person she is. The interview made me want to check out her new book. It's here: Interview.

Gosh, I missed a lot
Hello everyone!!
Nationals sound like it will be a fun time. Do you have to wear dresses to everything? I know for the awards you should wear gowns, but for the rest of the time? I'd like to go. Eventually.
Kim - glad you are getting better and the meds are helping.
Holly - 41 books? Holy moly, that's awesome.
Have a good evening! I'm debating on whether or not I should turn on my A/C. The deciding factor is if I sweat while drying off after the shower. And that was probably too much information so I'm gonna leave now.
Dresses
Hi Marcie,
I only wore a dress to the Harlequin party. It was a regular dress, not a gown. I wore a skirt to the Ritas. That's my plan again this year. For everything else I wore pants.
The styles seemed to vary widely. I think you could probably wear what suits you and be perfectly comfortable.
Hope you're not too hot! I just finished exercising and took a shower and I'm still a little hot. Have to do some sewing now and I think I'll point the fan right at myself!
Cheers,

Hey Marcie--I just tried on
Hey Marcie--I just tried on my Nationals wardrobe to make certain that there are no malfunctions. I'm wearing capris, capris, pants, skirt, dress, pants, dress. That's the rotation. I do wear heels with one of the pairs of capris, though.
Kim--Hope your recovery is speedy. Like Ellen says, we want you at 100% at the conference.

Dress Rehearsal
Hi Jeannie,
In addition to pretending to be an extrovert this week, I've been pretending to be someone who dresses in real clothes (not jeans). It's not only because the training class seems fancier than work, I also wanted to test out the outfits I'm planning for the conference.
My iron hasn't been deployed this many days in a row since I graduated from Catholic high school.
Glad to know things are looking good in your closet as well! Should we google "gall bladder+recovery+boogie+down" so we know what to expect from Kim?
Cheers,

Dress rehearsal...what's that?
Oh, I forgot what it was like to have a puppy around!! She is keeping all of us hopping! But I am getting away this weekend for a 'girls only' trip to Cape Cod! Yeah! Hopefully I'll get to try on my natl outfits next week.
Romance party train in 2011? I'll be heading down from MA on the train for NYC...in fact a group of us from my local RWA chapter are taking the train to Washington DC next year. It's an all day trip but lots of time to write (and chat!)
Sam...well said on flying...I am fine once I get in the air. It's not fear but air pressure in the ears that gets to me. I chew gum and have learned to have something to drink through a straw helps but if I get the pain that heads down to my jaw...I'm in big trouble.
Carrie...good news on the lawn mover...hope it holds out for you!
Ellen...thanks for the link to Margaret's interview...heading there right after this!
An iron? What's that?

isn't pretending to be an extrovert exhausting? Kinda like pretending to be interested in a speaker that's boring!
I hate sewing. Of course, the most I do is sew on a button. That's all of the excitement I need!

Kay--I loved HIS SON'S
Kay--I loved HIS SON'S TEACHER!!! I couldn't put it down. You did such an excellent job of handling both characters' issues. Well done
. Wow, between you and Kim's A KISS TO REMEMBER I've had some excellent reading this week. I'm reading all the Supers I can while on summer vacation--trying to make a dent in the TBR pile.
Ellen--I sit next to Margaret at the Literacy signing. She's an excellent neighbor!
Christyne--Ah, puppyhood
. It'll be over before you know it.
Carrie--I have the most excellent visual of you pushing a flaming mower, trying to get done before the fire gets too big, lol.

Hanging my head in shame...

Really? Susan...hope you find a job soon...teaching again? Sam...love your devotion to Supes...Christyne...enjoy the puppy, and you, or someone else who knows, tell me how to keep Lucy from chewing our toes...Welcome to Beth and Jody...Kay...I bought the last copy of HST at Walmart yesterday...Ami...LOL on the picture of your DH's triathalon...Chelle...waving...oh, and all of your conference bound girls are making me green with envy...clothes and conference! You should all have to wear old clothes OR conference, but not both! <wink>
think that's about all I can remember...
We leave for the beach tomorrow and are swinging through my hometown on the way back...11 day trip...if I finish packing...
...today is DHs birthday...he's 38...I don't mind sharing his age...
I'll never get caught up after that long of a trip, so try to save all the good stuff for when I get back! Yeah, right...
PS...AMY... I loved A Doctor in Her House...really! I need to send you an email dripping with praise, and I will someday, but for now, know it was AWESOME!
Goodnight!
Ronda
Beach reads...
Forgot to mention who's going to the beach with me! You know, for lounging by the pool and such...my TBR stack was enormous, so I sent DS#1 to pick out two books, yes, I'm being optimistic...and he chose Anna Adams MARRIAGE IN JEOPARDY and Kay Stockham HIS SON'S TEACHER!! Yeah!!
Ronda
Hot Friday!!
Kim, Sorry about the aftereffects, and hoping buying something was less painful than you expected.
Carrie, Yep, Ella and Ethel both love their dead babies. They carry them around until they no longer resemble babies and become just scraps of cloth! LOL Your Shepard (what's her name?) could easily come hang here! Good luck with the baby funeral! And glad you're up for the Romance Party Train!
Ellen, Thanks for the link to Margaret's interview! And I'm so hoping the Super Party is...well, Super! Can't wait to see everyone! Have I mentioned I'm so glad to be a Super Author lately?? LOL I sooo am! Working on the first straight-up Super book and having a blast with it! Oh, and I soooo don't iron either. My trick is, roll the clothes, they don't wrinkle as much. Then if there are minor wrinkles, I hang them in the bathroom when I shower and let them steam out. That's as good as it gets for me.
Marcie, I love how you planned to decide on AC...whether you turned it on or not, hope you were comfortable. Today is supposed to be the hottest day of the year here...and we've got no AC. Ugh. As for RWA clothes, I'm taking my black suit, a couple cocktailish dresses and...jeans. Yes, I found a pair over trouser jeans...very dark blue. On days I don't have to present a workshop, that's what I'm wearing! I'll add jewelry and a jacket, but it will still be jeans. I feel so sneaky! LOL
Jeannie, Sounds like you're ready to go!! I won't let myself start getting stuff out until a week before. But I've started my list! LOL
Christyne, Sending you good puppy vibes! And yay on the girls weekend to the Cape. I was there once, and it was beautiful!!
LindaC, I guarantee that I'll be a total ooze by the end of the conference. They drain me. The first one I went to was DC. Susan drove (it was our first roadtrip) and rather than talk to everyone about the conference, I got in her car and fell asleep. We're coming home on the red-eye and I'm not overly worried about it. I'll be such a mess it won't matter.
Ronda, Have a blast!!!! Enjoy the beach for me. Maybe feed a seagull? My favorite occupation at the beach!
I had to cut five pages yesterday, but I wrote extra to make it up and stay on pace. My dh had to work at night, something he rarely does anymore. Has to tonight and tomorrow as well. Erie's hosting "Roar on the Shore" a huge motorcycle gathering. So, he's on duty. I miss him, but it's good for my writing! LOL

Red Eye
Ronda--enjoy your vacation! It sounds wonderful. I think it's funny how we see more of you during the school year when, theoretically, you should be more busy! Your kids keep you hopping, don't they?
Christyne--a weekend away with friends sounds gorgeous. Enjoy! I wonder who's bringing the champagne to celebrate your sale? You couldn't have timed this better!
Two smilies this early in the morning...Hollyworld is infectious.
Holly--I'm on the red eye on Sunday night. Will I be seeing you and Susan, perhaps? Sorry you're missing your husband, but it sounds as if you're getting good writing done. That's a great way to pass the time. Can't wait to see your jeans!
Have a great Friday, everyone.

Holly Sneaky Jeans--I love
Holly Sneaky Jeans--I love this concept. Good for you and I bet they look and feel fabulous. I hope your husband has uneventful shifts.
Ronda--Have fun on your vacation! We do see less of you during the summer. I guess it's because school keeps a person in one place and temptingly close to a computer.
Christyne--Like Ellen says, a get away with friends sounds wonderful. Enjoy. And the puppy will be bigger when you get back.

Ellen, We're on
Ellen, We're on Continental...leaving at ten or elevenish. Any chances you are too??? Oh, that would be sweet! We've got a layover the next morning in Cleveland. We could all do breakfast!
Happy Shell Jeannie, LOL Love Sneaky Jeans! They're really beautiful jeans...got them at the Limited. Daughter #2 assures me my butt looks good in them! LOL
Oh, and for everyone down Pittsburgh way, I'm heading there Sept 20th and doing a signing at Borders. I'd love to see some of you!

Friday
Holly - Sneaky jeans sound great. I'm sure your butt will look fabulous! Enjoy the writing time without DH.
Kim - You put up with crappy doctors, you can handle the mall with one hand tied behind your back. I'm sure I'm going to be seeing some RWA photos with you looking fabulous.
Carrie - Double darn on the mower. I hate it when you just can't justify a big purchase. Hopefully the bar soap will be effective - just until mowers go on big time sale. Where do guys come up with this stuff?
Ellen - Hopefully the end of Extrovertism comes soon and you can return to inner musings. And holy moly, batman, an IRON? I just pretend I got wrinkled in the car. I hate ironing - probably has something to do with my Dad, who served in the Army, teaching me to iron "just the right way". (Eye roll here)
Marcie - I have a hard time using the air conditioner too. But, um, yeah. If I was sweating right out of the shower, I'd turn it on too.
Christyne - How's Harley? I should think a couple of puppy nights would be great birth control for DD! Have fun with the girlfriends.
Ronda - Have a wonderful time at the beach. I'll keep my fingers crossed you get your books read. I just got Kay's new one in my HQ box yesterday...so excited. Also pass happy birthday wishes on to DH.
Jeannie - Heels with capris? I'm envious. Usually I end up in flip flops.
The kids are with their grandmother today, so I'm also in for a little writing time. The characters are having a fun time in my head - which is a relief after the last few months. I was trying to work on a book - plot first, characters second - it's opposite my usual process and I felt like I was banging my head against the wall. I just couldn't get them talking to me. So I decided to let that go for a while and start on a different project. The one I originally meant to work on - and it's flowing. Whew.
Anyone else have an experience like that? How do you all work on a book? Plot first or characters first?
Oh and funny thing - right now my son is sitting next to me while I write. He's watching Justice League - Superman and Batman...together.

Red Eye and Sneaky Jeans - RWA Fashion Revolt!!!
Ellen, I doubt you're Red Eye-ing it to the same city we were. Holly and I are headed to Cleveland from San Francisco. Then we fly from there to Erie.
Do me ears/eyes deceive me??? Holly is wearing sneaky jeans at the conference??? Okay, that's it. I hearby declare a fashion revolt. Look, we're going to San Francisco, right? Near as I can tell, EVERYONE marches to their own beat in San Francisco. Sooooo, what if we ALL decide to wear jeans and nice tops? What are they going to do, kick us out of RWA for fashion unbecoming a romance writer??? <G>
Jeans and sneakers. The uniform of real writers everywhere. <G> I'll give in and wear makeup everyday for the conference, so as not to scare people too much. <G>
We'll dress up for the HQ party, and for the Ritas.
(and NO, this has absolutely nothing to do with my completely unfruitful shopping excursion yesterday. <G>)
Suz Brockman wore cowboy boots under her Rita gown when she won a Rita in New Orleans. And she did her workshop in jeans and the same cowboy boots. I like her style. <G>
So, who's with me??? Stand up and be comfortable, folks!! LOL. (What? Oh, I hear Holly yelling at me from the other side of Erie. She's saying, Susan, shut up, sit down, suck it up and put on the grown-up clothes.)
I don't wanna.
I say, let writers be writers!!! (I draw the line on tattered sweat pants and pajamas, though. We have to have SOME standards when out in public. <G> No bathrobes, either.)
