Steve and I are going on vacation in 10 days (yes I am counting the days). We will be going to Missouri, which is ten hours of drive time. I love to read in the car and look forward to vacations not only for the precious time with my hubby but also as a chance to binge on great books that I stockpile for such trips.
On day one we will make the ten hour drive over to our hotel. Day two we are giong to Ha Ha Tonka State Park to explore castle ruins on a cliff and also hike at the park. The third day will consist of floating around on a pontoon boat at The Lake of the Ozarks. We've never rented a boat together so it should be loads of fun. I'm going to pack a cooler for lunch and we'll be gone for the entire day. The fourth day we are going to drive to St. Louis and do the tourist thing and take the lift up to the top of the Gateway Arch and then go to the St. Louis Zoo, which I have been told is not to be missed. Day five we will drive the remaining seven hours home.
So, I've basically got twenty hours of drive time and a entire day of boating where I will definitely have reading time. I will be doing some of the driving, but not all of it. I am thinking that I am only going to take three paperbacks.
Here's the five I've got picked out, I just need to narrow it down to the three.
- Have Mercy by Jo Leigh (Blaze)
- Flashpoint by Jill Shalvis (Blaze)
- Heated Rush by Leslie Kelly (Blaze)
- Fantasy Lover by Sherrilyn Kenyon
- No Rest for the Wicked by Kresley Cole
I will read all of themeventually. But which three to take? What's your opinion?

I don't think you're taking enough!!
Taking some ebooks, too? Audio books? Or just 3 print? Really? Wow, I'd have a whole shoebox.
I say, "TAKE THEM ALL!" Not exactly what you wanted to hear. Sorry.
How is Steve doing?

Steve thinks three are too many. LOL He's like "just take one you won't need them all". *rolls eyes*
He's doing well. Thank you for asking. Other than his lessened energy level it is hard to tell that he underwent treatments last year. We've been incredibly blessed.
We planned our vacation with consideration to his energy. That is why we will spend the third day boating. It should be more relaxing and allow him to store up energy for the last two days of the trip. At least that's the plan. And any of the things we have planned can be cancelled if he's not feeling up to it.
I do plan on taking my PALM with me. I've got about 20 books on it. But I don't want to take it on the boat with me so it's paperback all the way there.
And I can always stop and buy more. LOL I mean, if I HAVE to. Cause, you know, book buying is such a drag. *sarcasm dripping from my voice*
Take the 3 Blaze books for sure
I just got back from my vacation - 10 days in Southern California. I took 5 books - 3 Blazes : In His Wildest Dreams by Debbi Rawlins, You Sexy Thing by Tori Carrington and L.A. Confidential by Julie Kenner. I also took Hung Up On You by Holly Jacobs an old Harlequin flipside and The Power of Love which is 12 short stories by authors like Lori Foster, Erin McCarthy and Kay Stockham. For a 10 day vacation, i would take all 5, you may read at night too! i hope you have a great time on your vacation.

Hi Jillyan
I say take them all. You don't want to take the chance of not having a book when you need one.
Have a great time!
Margie :)
Fantasy Lover by Sherrilyn
I say to take the above two books for sure.
Of the Blazes i'm not sure as i'm a newbie here.
I hope you both have an awesome trip whatever you decide Jill!

Don't ask me, jilly, I brought seventy-five books with me on my
10-day "vacation", so far I've only read twenty-something and I have two and a half days left on my vacation, but then if I'd only brought 40 I'd have run out LOL
Five sounds good to me

Have a nice vacation
I agree...take them all. What if there's not a bookstore handy? I'm going away for 4 days, and taking 70 something books...but that's because they're on my Kindle. I wasn't really planning on taking a print book, but I won't get it finished before I go...so that's going with me too.

Tammy - Blazes are
Tammy - Blazes are excellent vacation books. I make sure I always have one or two whenever I travel. I've been meaning to buy "The Power of Love". Don't the proceeds from the sale of it go to charity? I think I read that somewhere.
Margie - I *shudder* at the thought of not having a book. I'd have to stop and buy at least a magazine. LOL
KathleenD - I am looking forward to reading Fantasy Lover. I've heard that while it is not a part of the ongoing series, which I have never read but plan on, that it is good to start with it. Have you read all of the Dark-Hunters?
Sadhbh - Well, your forty is like an equivalent to my three I have a feeling. I am by no means a fast reader.
Sandi - Not a bookstore handy? *gasp* I might have nightmares.
I do have my PALM for backup but it's not exactly boat friendly. I always end up packing about double of what I need and this year I was hoping to cut back on my OCD packing. But really, two more books wouldn't take up that much room. Right? I could just stash them under the seat of the car. Just in case.
Yes....
THE POWER OF LOVE is for charity. Plus it's a great anthology!
I'm with Sandi.... I always fear no bookstore would be around so I have to take a bunch with me when I travel.

My initial thought is to
My initial thought is to take them all.
I would definitely take Fantasy Lover. Julian
. I've read them all and Fantasy Lover is definitely a must read. SK has it listed as part of the DH series. It introduces some major character. If nothing else Julian is a yummy hero.
Then I would say take a Blaze and the Kresly Cole book.

Hi Jill, I've read Fantasy
Hi Jill, I've read Fantasy Lover and then the next two following in the Dark-Hunter series and loved them all.
Fantasy Lover, while completely different than the following Dark-Hunter books, is loosely connected to them. For example Kieran(sp?), who's story is in book#2...we meet him briefly in book#1. Fantasy Lover is a really worth while read imho, even if you don't follow the rest of this series.
I hope you enjoy it when you get to it.

I would never be able to
I would never be able to limit my books to 3 on a 10 day vacation. I would have to budget a book a day and take twice that number if I could get away with it.
Blazes are great vacation reads. What am I saying? They are great anytime reads. LOL

I'm a bad one to ask. I
I'm a bad one to ask. I took 8 books on my vacation - only ended up reading 2, but wasn't sure what my mood would be. Hope you have a good time and am glad to hear that Steve is doing well.

That's what i'm like as well. I bring waaay to many books to read...because i never know what my reading mood might be, so i bring a bit of everything.

I'd take all
I'd take all five what's two more, take one less pair of shoes, after all what's more important? Really, Fantasy Lover is really good and Jo Leigh is a great author and so is Leslie Kelly, I've been meaning to read Kresley Cole, so how can you choose. Too many good choices.

I'd have to say....
It's better to take all of them with you, even if you already know you won't have time to read each one. If you're like me whichever book you read will depend on your current mood at the moment. I took nine books with me on vacation, although I actually only got around to reading 3. At least I had a choice which ones to read. And, chances are, they won't add too much more weight to your luggage. I think the paperbacks are easier than hardbacks to travel with.
If you have them all with you to choose from, you can't go wrong!

Yeah, I've cracked.
I'm taking all five.
Everytime I thought I had my mind made up I'd change it. I had thought to only take the Blazes but then I thought "What if I want a paranormal?" And then I'd try to pick a Blaze to not take and I couldn't. *rolls eyes at self*
I'll be lucky if I don't add more to my bag. I'm not taking any crochet projects with me so the room usually reserved for yarn can hold more books.
And of course I've got to pack my Sudoku books too. They are great for road trips.
Ooh, yeah, Sudoku....
I'm glad to hear that someone else besides me likes that puzzle. Hardly anyone I know does - they all get stumped on it. I also love brainteasers and riddles. I'm not great at solving them (I might work on one for days)... but at least I like to try!

Sudoku
Funny, I brought a Sudoku book ( I too don't know anyone else who likes these puzzles but my DH and I love them - up to Medium or Hard - we stay away from Diabolical!) and we did a ton of puzzles during our 5 hour flight to California. Good decision too to bring all 5 books. Better to have too many than too few.
Tammy
Sudoku
I got hooked on it last year when Steve was sick. He showed me how to work them before his surgery. I worked through an entire book that week. I had loads of time.
And during his treatments they were perfect. We had to sit there forever and reading was difficult because of the nurses checking his stats. The sudoku was perfect because I could stop and start a bunch and it wouldn't matter.
That was smart thinking, Jillyan...
...for doing the Sudoku's in the hospital. There's definitely times when reading isn't as convenient. I detest being interrupted when I'm reading. It drives me batty. And woe to the innocent person who disrupts me....
Anyway, if I think I might be interrupted frequently, I find something else to do. I like crosswords sometimes. Also the IQ brain sharpeners are fun. The questions can be so darned tricky. Sometimes the answers are so obvious that it's like not seeing the forest for the trees....
Diabolical, Tammy? Oh yeah, those would probably have me tearing my hair out! <GG>

Evil
I saw a book labelled difficulty level "evil". I didn't even try. Medium to Hard is my limit.
Diabolical
If i even tried a Diabolical. I think i would cheat and add a few more numbers. What amazes me is I can do the medium puzzles faster then the easy ones at times. Hard puzzles are a great challenge but that's as high as I would go. I like logic puzzles and word games too. Everyone at my work laughs at me, because I do the Sudoku puzzle in my paper at lunch time because it relaxes me. They think I am crazy and Sudokus are not relaxing. They are wrong!
Tammy
Hi Jilly - glad you decided to take all five
I'm afraid to get into Sudoku, because that would take me away from reading - the time I spent hours in a hospital with D, I hand-sewed a patchwork skirt (I can't sew)

Hi Jillyan
I went on two week vacation to Mexico with my parents and sister several years ago. I took two of Nora Roberts big novels and two thick paperback. I thought that would be plenty with everything we planned to do. But the vacation was very relaxing. Even though we were site seeing a lot, I had a lot of down time to just enjoy reading.
I remember wanting another book so bad but there was no where to get one. One day were were in this nice tourist village and there was this tiny, bedroom size, store. There was a rack of books and they looked familiar. They were Silhouette Desire books in Spanish. I've never taken Spanish but I do understand it and I have read a few lines of things in Spanish and was able to follow very well.
So I was really happy and figured I'd get one or two of those and give it a try but just then everyone wanted to leave. . . no time to get my little book. Lets go now! Whaaa! I had to leave that little rack of Desire books and I didn't see any other books after that. So sad. Now if I'd had a Kiddle, I would definately take a library and read what called to my mood.
Again, I say to take them all.
Margie :)
