When will the hurting stop?

On Friday, hubby got word he's about to be sent to a new project - this one in Houston. That's quite a distance from home, and he'll be working 7 days a week, so I've been in a mad rush to tie up loose ends and finish as many projects as possible. The Bites story is one such project.

I printed up chapter 5 and went about cleaning it up, only to realize about half way through the chapter needed to be divided into two separate chapters. So I did it. And I finished chapter five - which is now in the hands of my crit partner. I plan to clean up chapter 6 tonight; I'm not going to bed until I do. Rinse, repeat, and do it all again tomorrow.

I do believe my nerves are shot. It could be months before I get my "golden writing hours" back, and hubby is supposedly leaving on Tuesday morning. That could change between now and Monday, but for now I have to look at it as a concrete deadline. I have to get as much as possible completed before he takes off.

Tomorrow morning I hope to be printing up chapter seven. Until then, wish me luck!

Thanks, Jodie :-)

How are things going with you?  I need to pop over and pay you a visit to catch up. So far hubby is still here. The call he was expecting didn't come through, so he's still waiting for the relocation directions. Goodness, I hope this doesn't drag out for weeks... :S

You have my support, Cora!

Writing is so hard and time-consuming already without nuts and bolts thrown into the wheel. It's rough to adjust a writing schedule around other activities.  Though my DH understands my need for solitude during writing, I have a young daughter who sometimes makes me feel guilty for even taking out an hour or two out to write.  And I won't even elaborate on my other family members who think that interrupting my writing time is no big deal.  So I squeeze my writing into bits and pieces whenever possible.  I usually pound out my rough draft in very 'crappy' mush at night.  Then I go back to polish it.  Needless to say, I'm not the fastest at turning out a MS.  But at least I have a couple of completed manuscripts, and a couple of others in the works.

Do you normally write during day hours, or in the evening?  You might have to try fitting your writing into sections of your day.  It's like exercise.  They say you need thirty minutes a day...but you don't have to do it all at once.  Ten minutes here.  Ten minutes there.  Of course, you'll need more than ten minutes to write - but I was just using it as an example.  I believe it was Louisa May Alcott who confided that the most she could accomplish on her manuscripts was a couple of paragraphs a day before her mind would grew too tired.  Anyway, judging by the success she had, even one paragraph a day worked!  Keep your chin up and know that your friends here at eHarl are rooting for you!

Best wishes for you DH and his temporary job move, too. Smile

Hi Amanda! :-)

Thank you for the extra vote of support. I hear you about the nuts and bolts getting tossed in. I write at a desk in our dining room, which is the heaviest foot traffic area in the house. The kids are constantly in and out, the phone ringing, a dog rummaging around. Too, my youngest is just 3, he knows his "Mimi is working", but that just means he needs to climb into my lap to get attention. Innocent  I'd move my desk, but then everyone would follow me there to ask me questions or what not, so I might as well sit in the center of it, lol.

I write in little bursts throughout the day. Maybe for 10-20 minutes a stretch, then I go hang out with the toddler and dance to the Backyardigans for a while, or some such thing: games, colors. Or laundry.  It's hard to get anything done during the day, so I'll tip tap here and there during daylight hours, and once the kids and hubby are sleeping, I'll slip into the den and write for a few hours to catch up. So, probably my best writing hours are from 11pm to 2 am. I get more done then than any other time.

Again, thanks for dropping by to cheer me on! I need to update my blog, I just noticed where I left off, and I've come a good distance since then. I'm about four paragraphs away from having my Bite submission ready to ship out. Woot! I'm hoping it will all be finished tonight.
