On Wednesday, this past week, I took my dd to the Adams County Fair in Ohio. There is a guy I know who is a fantastic cover band singer and I like to go and listen as he does a couple of Led Z that I simply love. The main band that night was called RootBound. All I can say is, I don't believe they are going to be root bound much longer and I think their fan base is going to grow at an amazing rate as their popularity spreads across the country. I have to say, I have been attending Rock Concerts since 1970 and RootBound had the best vocals, sound and performance I have ever heard and watched. They are at the stage in their career where they are doing free shows, so if you live in or close to Southern Ohio, you ought to take in one, because they will be bigger than Creed, Stone TP, etc. Amazing performances. They have a new CD coming out I am going to get for my DD. She got a T-shirt, etc and found their web site.
Anyway, my DSS dropped in from TX and we shared a bucket of fries. He told me he would stay for one song and ended up watching the entire concert with us. He was impressed and told me it was the best live show he had seen in 15 years or longer.
This got me to thinking about music in books. There are times that some of the ms's I write are inspired by a scene or an event. Since the concert/fair trip, I have wrote over 10,000 words and have a story burning in my mind.
My question is....if you are a fan of Rock and the book you are reading features country music, are you turned off or vice versa? Do you prefer generic music as a backdrop in the stories so the reader can insert their favorite music? Does it matter to you either way?
I need to get back to posting as soon as fair and softball tournaments are over as I have two towers of books to blog about. mj

I didn't comment before
as for a change I thought about my answer. I am a country music fan so quite often when I am reading cowboy stories country music is mentioned. It adds to my reading pleasure. I don't think I would find mention of a rock song in a booka turnoff. I hope it wouldn't matter to anyone else either. Hope you are enjoying your new band.

Thank you Kaelee - I
Thank you Kaelee - I usually have the country station on but I do love songs from each type of music. In my current ms, a western, I am toying with which music. In my mind, the songs are more blue grass.
thank you again...
I love Bluegrass
My DH and I made a special trip to a place called Boone NC to see Ralph Stanley live . This was the grand opening of their new auditorium and they wanted to give away a T-shirt to the person who had come the farthest. Some poor lady from Florida was all excited that she was going to win when my DH stood up and said that he and his wife had come over 3000 miles from Calgary Alberta Canada to see the show. Needless to say he won the T-shirt.

Wow!
That is so awesome. I live in Southern Ohio, and 7 miles from Northern Kentucky. We went to a lot of flea markets and festivals where local Blue Grass singers would gather and sing, for free. I once lived 2 blocks from Ricky Scagg's aunt in Waverly, Ohio. The sound is unique and the songs tell stories of life, which I like.
My nephew married a woman from Baie Comeau, Quebec, Canada, way up north and she speaks French. I have always wanted to go and visit her parents. I have only been as far as Niagara-on-the-Lake, Canada.
If you are ever in Kentucky, there is a place called Renfro Valley that has a lot of Blue Grass Concerts and so many country and blue grass local singers go there to perform.
Didn't comment yesterday
as I thought it would get lost among all the book reports. I like Ricky Skaggs a lot. He had a show on tv for a while and introduced us to a lot of singers we hadn't known about. They were roots and bluegrass singers. Our country stations are very good but they tend to play all popular country or the golden oldies. Unless a bluegrass singer gets a really popular tune they don't get air time. So sad. It sounds like you come from a music rich part of the country. It must be fun to see so many different groups and then when the odd one makes it onto the airways you can say I knew they would make it big.

Kaelee - Yes, I am blessed.
There are two folks I know, one Steve Parks that sings a lot of country at local festivals that is competing in the colgate challenge. He is great and I think he has a change to make it in country.
There is a guy named Dave McUne that won a contest at Renfro Valley and the prize was to open a show for John Anderson, which he did. He is really good and I think had a chance.
There is a local woman, Rosie Parks that sounds like Patsy Cline, and there is a girl named Leah that sings bluegrass. She does a lot of Alison Krauss songs and I think if she can get a decent band she will do well.
So yes, I enjoy the singing. And what is weird, I really like some of the old farmers or miners with their gravely voices. They will never be main stream, but the real life they put into their songs can bring goose bumps.
Have a great day.
