We now have to dial 10 numbers instead of 7 when we phone. No big deal but my brain refuses to remember the last 7 when I put in the first 3 so I find myself jotting down the last 7 numbers before I try to call. I also have to find my instruction book for my cell phone so I can reprogram it. I know this is a small thing and it will exercise my brain but it is taxing me. Just an effect of our population growth.

Exercising the Brain
Yes, you're right, Kaelee. By the time when we get use to a certain/familiar routine or system; suddenly, okay, its time for a change, don't get too comfortable. What?!
My brain has instructed me follow new routine, but because of age, it takes longer for the signals to travel to my fingers/hands/feet, so before I know it, my limbs do what they use to do. What?! (did I just say that?)

I know i am getting older but it's just so frustrating when I go to phone and put in three numbers and my brain seizes up and I can't remember the other seven
I see you have been entering a lot of book reports. I have to get motivated and do a few more.

Oh boy, Kaelee....
I'm so not a number person! So, if it's any comfort, I'd be the same way you are - out of sight, out of mind. But age has nothing to do with it!
Thank God our phone numbers here aren't that long or I probably wouldn't even remember my own - lol! BTW, I have to write everything down. I have posties and stick-it's here and there all over the house so I don't forget things. Blame it on my one-track-mind!

No rush
Kaelee,
Those are books I have already read, some time ago (this year), because of the book challenge, I tried to log all I have read.
Now, here comes the difficult part, I know I've read that book, recall that I like/dislike it, but not the detail or not enough to make an honest comment. So, I did a quick glance through a few chapters to jog my memory, slowly, those sleeping brain cells woke up, but not all or at the time I need them to be awake.
I believe there's one book that another member commented on my review & made me think that I might have copied & pasted the wrong comment for that review, oops.
I am going to take a look at that tonight.
Actually, I am having a lot of fun re-visiting those books I read, normally, I don't re-read the book at least a year later, because I could (mind you, in past tense) remember the general plot, so no fun. This time, I found out that my memory cells are sleeping (hibernating), so all of a sudden, I got many 'new old' books to read.
This could be a good thing, enjoying 'new-old' books/movies.

I have to enter them soon
or I will have to read the books again or at least skim them. I have a bag of books that are due to go to the used book store but I know I read them this year so wanted to do a book report first. I think I will just skim them again to jog my memory and hope no one relies on my report to buy a book. Dh is out of town for 2 days this week so will try then.
Amanda is this a new picture? if so was your old one of you and your daughter? Or is my brain not working again?

LOL - your brain is fine!
Yep, it's a new picture, and the old one was of me and my DD. You're not the only person who has asked this, so don't feel bad! I think the change confused everybody.
In a couple of months I'll probably confuse everyone again with another new picture. It'll include Katie again... everybody tells me they miss seeing her. Well, she's a heck of a lot cuter than me at any rate! LOL

more digits
We've just started doing the same thing here. Major pain! I still haven't reprogrammed all my numbers into my phones probably because I know it's a soft deadline and we've got until the fall before they actually won't put the call through. Right now we just get this nagging voice reminding us and then it goes through. What does that say about me that I just take it as an opportunity to delay another few months? Some people I know were re-programming their phones the same day it went into effect.
Pat
weird
I think that's been in effect here for like two years. Probably just after they split areas around Toronto into two area codes. All my phones are programmed with 10 numbers and incoming calls are displayed with 10 numbers. And with this company I don't have to worry about long distance in Canada or US

Yes we in the west know that Toronto grows faster.
Yes it is because they have to add a new area code in the province and we do have until sometime in September to do it and yes the nagging voice is very annoying. I think they must audition for that quaity.

Annoying voice ... maybe
Kaelee, I think someone purposely choose an annoying voice so as to get people to change to the 10 digits.

10 Digit dialing .....
Christa, I think it's been more than two years now ... I don't mind the 10 digit dialing ... I hate that they've screwed up the area codes so that they no longer represent a region when it comes to the GTA (Greater Toronto Area) .... so now you practically have to know exactly where you are calling to know if it's long distances, you can't base it on the area code
we can thank all the cellphone users .... esp. the teenagers .... every phone number issued has to be unique ... and households today definitely have more than one phone number ....
I hate using a land line to make calls I'm not sure if they are long distance or not .... we get that message to dial one ...... on my cell phone it will go through whether I put the one or not ....
too hard for this brain sometimes!

Thanks for letting me know that I will get used to it. I agree that because they are no longer keeping the area codes in an area it is going to be more difficult to figure out where you are phoning to. The new area code they are adding will apply to the whole province. They split the province in half a few years ago but I guess they couldn't figure out how to third it. One of the problems my Dh ran into was apartment buzzers connected to the phone do not work. They have to go in and reprogram them all as well.
I really cannot stand that nagging voice --makes me so grumpy and the heat isn't helping either. I really try to remember to put in the area code but once in a while old habits kick in.

Hi Kaelee
You had me nervous for a minute. I am terrible with numbers! I see you are in Canada. Whew!
Margie :)
Katherine
my brain is bad with timelines.
Katherine-when they changed are codes I hated it because all of sudden my sister went from 416 to 905

I had that change when I
I had that change when I moved from NC to Colorado. I am finally used to it but last week I had to call a local customer service to register a gift card and they wanted only the 7 digits---I could not tell them my phone number that way! I finally said, Ican't, I will say the whole number and you ignore the first 3 digits. Really it wasn't more than 7 days ago. My mom's area code went from 919 to 336 years ago but I still find myself dialing the old number occasionally. My husband's family had theirs changed a few years ago.

Isn't it funny how some things are so engrained.
I know in the course of things I will get used to it. I fully connect with not being able to rhyme off the last 7 numbers if you are used to giving 10. If I log into our library site or use the self- checkout feature I must log in only the last 4 numbers and that's okay when I am at home but in the library I have to mentally go through the first numbers before I come up with the last 4 I have to enter. I always feel like a dummy holding up the line.
