5 day vacation. Six pairs of shoes and five books.

We leave in the morning for our vacation.  Five days of no animals, family or work. Bliss.

I am waiting on the last of the laundry to come out of the dryer to finish packing so I thought I would take a moment to rest and share random thoughts.

I don't understand my own math, but for some reason I need six pairs of shoes for five days of vacation.  Hiking shoes for hiking, flip flops for boating, flip flops (a different pair) for riding around in the car, cute strappy sandals for my dressy outfit, walking shoes for the zoo and crocs as backup.  It might seem like too much on the surface but it makes sense in my head.  And to be honest I don't even consider myself to be a "shoe person".  What I am is a chronic over-packer.

I did decide to take five books and my PALM which currently has ten books on it.  That should hold me.

It's amazing how times have changed.  (That just made me sound like my Dad, lol)  I had to stop and take time to unplug and pack all of the chargers for two cell phones, two mp3 players, my PALM and the camera.  There were so many they have their own compartment in the luggage.  Used to we would just make sure we had a few rolls of film, a calling card and extra batteries and we were golden.

I guess that's it.  I realize that I didn't share anything amazing here.  It's just the stuff that is my life right now.  When I get back I'll be sure to share my any interesting pics with all of you.

See you Thursday.

I see absolutely...

...nothing wrong with taking six pairs of shoes.  In fact, I see nothing absurd with packing ten pairs of shoes.  A woman can never be too sure when she might need extra 'commodities'.  So do I think you're over-packing? Nah!  And good idea about taking your palm plus the books, rather than fifteen hard copies.  That'll save some more space for the shoes. LOL!  Wink  Anyway, I hope you have a terrific vacation, Jillyan!  Can't wait to see the pics.

Would you think I was nosy if I ask where you're going?

Nothing wrong

with six pairs of shoes, sounds logical to me just don't ask a man, you'd get a totally different answer. Have a great time and hope you get to read a few of your books too. Talk to you when you get back.

Details.

Amanda, with me, always be nosey.  If I don't want to answer I'll just say so.

We are going to Missouri.  On day one we drive for ten hours.  I had really wanted to stop and have lunch with a reader friend but I don't think the drive time is going to allow it.

Day two we will go to Ha Ha Tonka State Park.  There are castle ruins on a cliff and some great hiking trails.

Day three we are boating on the Lake of the Ozarks.

Day four we will drive to St. Louis and see the Gateway Arch and also go to the zoo.  We are staying at an amazing hotel.  It's got a view of the arch from our room.  I am really looking forward to it.

Day five we drive the remaining seven hours home.  It's a whirlwind trip but I think there is enough time to do everything we want without feeling too rushed.

The castle ruins are really interesting.  If you google image search "Ha Ha Tonka Castle Ruins" you'll find some pretty impressive photos.

I've been relieved of my shoe packing concerns.

Steve packed four pairs.  And in my mind it's okay for a woman to take twice as many pairs as a man.  Which means I could have taken two more pairs!

Okay, I am leaving.  See ya'll late next week.

Have fun

I suck at packing light,

I suck at packing light, whether it be shoes, clothes or books. So i say don't worry about it, unless you can't find room in the vehicle to store it all. (terrible thought!)

Hope you have an awesome time Jill and i look forward to hearing all about it when you get back.

I looked up Ha Ha Tonka

It looks really interesting. I ususally don't have trouble taking too many pairs of shoes- it 's coats I worry about.  In spring and fall,  I have been known to leave for a day trip with no fewer than five of them. If you can fit it in the car I take it.

Hope you had fun

When I went to Chicago I was trying to be careful not to overpack because my son was keeping the suitcase while I came home, and he stayed to enjoy one on one Grandma time.

So I really wanted to wear one pair of shoes and pack one pair.  I ended up doing that, but then realizing that I didn't pack any casual shoes.  So sent mom to buy me some.  Great...got a cheapie pair of sneakers I'll probably never wear again, and then got to Chicago to realize I didnt' have the casual clothes to go with the sneakers!  Had to go shopping!

So for my 4 days away I ended up with my Kindle and it's70something books, my one physcial book, and then mom gave me a book, and three pairs of shoes!

I'm back

I've finally made it home.  I have some wonderful photos and stories to share.  I'll be sure to post things this evening.  I have to be back at work in a little over an hour and don't have enough time to load the photos and do the story telling justice right now.

Jill - glad you had a fun time

when I go on holidays I think it's totally normal to take only one pair of shoes and a pair of sandals or boots depending on the season, but I have to take at least thirty books for a five day trip or double that for a ten day one

Kind of shows you where my priorities lie

I don't pack dressy shoes because I don't pack dressy clothes

The people I love know me enough not to expect me to dress up and the people I don't know, don't care - how dressy do you need to be to read a book after all?Wink
