Sherrilyn Kenyon's "Dark Hunters" series... question about Acheron *Speculation, but no Spoilers from "Acheron" book*

I have a question about Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark-Hunters series...  it's about ACHERON.

I read the first six books in the series...  and Acheron and Artemis have had this epic love/hate/battle going on between them.  It's lasted 11 000 years.  Then all of a sudden, there's this maid of Artemis's named Katra who is in love with Acheron.  As soon as I read about her love for Acheron, I thought "crap, is she being set up as THE eventual true love of Acheron???"

If someone here has read all the books (or more of 'em then me), can you tell me more about Acheron/Artemis/Katra and the future?

I really was getting into the Acheron/Artemis relationship.  I was hoping Artemis would redeem herself and start being a little more selfless and show that she has better motivation than Acheron thinks.  I think Artemis could be "worthy" of Acheron.  I love that they both loved/love each other, and their on going power struggle is fun to watch.  I wanted to watch Artemis/Acheron get closer again.  And I wanted to see Simi start liking Artemis slowly.

Someone take pity on me and spoil me.  I'll look forward to the books so much more if Katra backs out of the picture.  I mean, Katra's free to feel unrequited love for Acheron.... or sacrifice herself to save Acheron one day... or feel close to him and one day discover the reason for that is that they are secretly related....  but I don't want Acheron/Artemis to end!

Acheron's

book is coming out soon so I'm hoping we'll find out the whole story. In some later books they still have the same relationship. At times Artemis does redeem herself and then she does something that makes you hate her all over again. That's about all I can tell you just keep reading and maybe we can find out the story together.

Oooh, thanks for the heads

Oooh, thanks for the heads up.  Acheron's story is soon?  That's sweet!   I see there's a "free ebook" about Acheron on Sherrilyn Kenyon's site.  Have you read it?  I'm wondering if it's a full book or a short story.  And I'm wondering if I can read it and review it for the challenge.

About Artemis/Acheron...  mmm.  I want to see more.

Katra...  have we seen more of her?  Has she appeared around Acheron and been lovey dovey around him?

I don't read

I don't read the chapters on author's websites usually. I'm not a peeker so wait till the whole story comes out. I usually go to find out when the book is coming out or how many new ones I can expect, or even the order I should read them in. Just keep reading and you'll find out a bit more in the last couple of books I read. Nope, not saying anything more.

You tease!

You tease!  :p

*howls*

I am such a peeker...  and I don't care about being spoiled!  Feel free to spoil me about absolutely everything...  *begs a little*

Can I have at least a little hint about Katra...?

Janet

Katra is not and never will be Acheron's love interest. It is impossible. But she does love him, and he does love her. Katra's story is in Devil May Cry. After you read that one, I think you will completely understand exactly what I mean. Wink

Does that satisfy your questions or do you want more details Laughing

Artemis

When you read Ash's story, not from his book Acheron, but the parts of his past that were pubbed in other books, then you discover that Artemis betrayed him and hurt him in the worst way possible. At least that is the story we have been given so far. I love stories of redemption, but, I'm not sure there is anything Artemis can do to for them to ever get past what she did to him. What I wonder is this...if Ash needs her blood as nourishment, only hers, and it is also a sexual thing when he feeds, then how in the world is that going to work out with another woman being his heroine? It was my understanding that this vampiric thing is undoable -that he is bound to Artemis in this way for life. Makes me very interested to read Acheron. I know a lot of readers who absolutely will riot if Artemis is his heroine. LOL.

Stargirl....  thanks for

Stargirl....  thanks for the details!

Katra - eek.  That's six books away.  I won't find out for a bit.  But what you did tell me is good enough to satisfy me for now.

Artemis - SHIIIIIIIT.  You don't think Kenyon will make her the heroine for Acheron?  Because other fans will riot?  Crap.  I see Acheron and Artemis as the Mama and the Papa of the Dark-Hunters world.  You can't have the world without both of them, so they need to stay together.  They fight, they hate, but there were/are feelings of love and desire still there.  I was hoping that slowly, across the series, they would mellow Artemis out and have you see her motivations as more selfless and start to respect her.  I think an end result of having Simi love Artemis would be a great 180 in the series.  And Acheron/Artemis would have such a happy eternal life together if they worked past their shit and started ENJOYING their symbiotic existence.

As you said, what would Acheron's life be like if he wasn't feeding, bargaining with, and sleeping with Artemis?  They've been at this for 11 000 years.  See, I would love Acheron so much more if I knew that he was agreeing to Artemis's demands because deep down they were what HE wanted.  He wouldn't be a victim then.

He and Artemis are such equals, with 11 000 years of history between them, I don't see how another heroine could replace Artemis's significance in his life.  No human woman would be WORTHY of Acheron.  I want him with a goddess.

.... but then again...  I have to admit that Kenyon has planted mixed signals....  Acheron has resented Artemis.  Artemis has not just forced Acheron into sex, she also has beaten him (and not in a fun S&M way that they both secretly enjoy).  .... I'm such a fan of love/hate relationships though!  I don't want to give up hope on the Acheron/Artemis.  And I just LOVE all the references to Acheron, Artemis, and Simi in the Dark-Hunters books.  When a book is like on A, A, S, I feel like something is missing.

Artemis

is a B___ and we love to hate her. She'd have to undergo major revamping to redeem herself. After you read more about Katra you will understand. So glad Stargirl didn't tell you everything. I will be peeking back here to see how you're doing.

Aw Deb, you're teasing me

Aw Deb, you're teasing me again!  With what I don't know about Katra.  Grrrr.  I'd read the series faster if I knew there was lots of good Acheron/Artemis/Simi to look forward to.  I skimmed the books looking for those names, and the next two books seem to be light on the AAS, while the next book with action is "Dark Side of the Moon" (so that's the third book in line).  And another six books until I hit the Katra revelations you speak of...   :(

Gah!

Artemis and Ash

I'm glad what I said was helpful. Now ya have to read fast to get there and find out, lol.

I remember reading a post where Kenyon wrote/said that Ash's Heroine was in the book Dream Hunter. And that's all she was gonna say about it. LOL. So Artemis was also in that book, as she is in almost every book. :-p  But so were Katra (I, like you, thought she might be the one until I read Devil May Cry), and a few other females. So who knows.

Deb, I agree about the major revamping. Major Inner transformation needed - taming of the shrew transformation. How about amnesia where she doesn't even remember who she is or what she did to him and is no longer is a spoiled woman with a Goddess complex? LOL. Because Ash is always giving giving giving. He needs some unconditional love, someone that makes sacrifices for him, and allow him to be on the receiving end for once.

This is fun

anyone else having this much fun? We need more book discussions. While we're on that Dream Hunter is the only one I haven't read yet. I better read and see if I can find out anything, not that I would be telling!

*DON'T READ MY POST, I TALK

*DON'T READ MY POST, I TALK ABOUT SPOILERS & SPECULATIONS ABOUT ACHERON'S STORY*

*POSSIBLE SPOILERS*

(what else do you expect?  I'm a major spoiler whore and the whole point of the thread was that I was begging people to spoil me about who Acheron ends up with)

Deb...  You'll be disappointed to hear me report this...  but I just got spoiled about Katra.  *Deb makes frowny face upon hearing this*   Yeah.... I wasn't LOOKING to get spoiled about it.... As soon as you said "Katra & Acheron aren't in love" I stopped caring about Katra.   But I started scrolling Kenyon's website message board.  I was looking at some threads on Acheron's story.  I'm a complete utter peeker.  I can't help it.

So yeaaaaaaah....  my enthusiasm just got shot to hell for Acheron/Artemis.  If they don't end up together, which it sounds like the entire fanbase is against happening, I'm going to be disappointed.  I think I need a bit of time to stop my hyperventilating over Acheron/Artemis and read with non-biased eyes, not expecting my AA hits.

I was yelling at my brother this afternoon right after I read some speculations about Acheron's story....  my brother was like "you read spoilers about a book?  Please tell me it wasn't Harry Potter".  I hesitated to tell him I was pissed a 11 000 year old sexy god wasn't ending up with the bitch goddess of my choice.

....  and FYI Deb, I too love threads like this.  I love chatting about the books I'm reading.  And I am happy I spoiled myself.  Even though I really wasn't LOOKING to be spoiled, I was just curious.  It's all about going in to the book with realistic expectations.  Do you know how PISSED I would be if I had spent another six or seven books getting attached and invested in the AA relationship?  I need to start backing off and lowering the expectations.  There's still a SLIGHT chance....

BTW....  I watched the video of Acheron's story FIRST before I read the message boards... and I was like "HOT DAMN!!!  This video is all about the redheaded goddess and Acheron!  I LOVE THIS"....  I was getting all psyched up that AA was possible, that Kenyon must like it because the promo vid was all about AA.

About the video....  jeez.  Acheron doesn't look the way I imagined him.  I imagined him looking much more chiselled in the face, muscled, tall, facial scruff, eyes that scream sex....  and about the eyes... I pictured eyes that were like molten metal, with different shades of grey just swirling and shifting.... And I pictured the red being just a ring that appeared over the iris.  I guess special effects can't come up to my expectations.

I swear I'm not 12.  I

I swear I'm not 12.

I just reread my post and saw all the times I said "LIKE" and used CAPS.  I swear I'm not a 12 year old.  But I am hyperventilating a little.  I blame that.  I am usually more capable of rational conversation than this.

Janet

I busted out laughing reading your post. That was too funny! Do this often or did your brother think you were nuts.

Deb

While Dream Hunter is not the usual Dark Hunterish book, it was good. And I believe when it came out Sherrilyn said Ash's heroine was in the book. I thought at first it might be Katra and although I liked her I was like (used that so you don't feel alone Janet, LOL) nooooo! At first I wanted Artemis and Ash together, but that was before I read on and knew the depth of her betrayal and the pain she caused him, and pain is toooo mild a word, actually.

The "unofficial" book trailers say Tory is the heroine. She is in the book Dream Hunter. But alas, it is "unofficial". The official book trailer does not even give a heroine's name. So we have to wait...just a few more days. I have preordered Acheron and Breaking Dawn (by Stephanie Meyer) I know I will inhale both books when I get them. Probably two nights of no sleep that week. LOL.

Still - like I said before. It it was her, I know Kenyon would make it work, because she is a master. Artie would need a complete transformation, that's for sure, and possibly make a huge, way beyond huge, selfless sacrifice for Ash's benefit to make it even believable.

And yes, it is fun to talk about it.

Deb, I'm afraid I do this

Deb, I'm afraid I do this often.  I'm a bit like a hyper bunny that's so annoying you just want to take a shot at it with a slingshot to stop it jumping a yard off the ground.

I'm just as bad with spoilers for books as for TV.  I also just can't be shut up when I get a song in my head.  I'm quite annoying, and not very talented.  The brother got off lucky, he was just visiting for a day.   Could have been worse.  And I treated him nice today, I only started singing three times in the car with him today.  (Pink "Who Knew" twice and Robyn's "Do you really want me"  *does a little bow*)  I think in 30 minutes of driving I was only singing for 5 of them.

Stargirl....  I didn't

Stargirl....  I didn't HATE Katra.  I felt curiousity about her just as I would any female character introduced in the D-H series, because I figured eventually she'll get a story.  BUT as soon as she said she loved Acheron I crossed my fingers to ward off evil and did a mental "UH UH!  Acheron belongs to Artemis and has for 11 000 years, hands off!"

TWILIGHT...  I'm such a bad person.   I haven't read that series, but I've been lurking at the board for Twilight at DFN (an entertainment forum I help run).  I created a funny thread...  trying to convert the Twilight fans to paranormal romances by Angela Knight, Nina Bangs, JR Ward, and Sherrilyn Kenyon.  If you want the link to the thread, to read for shits and giggles, let me know.

ARTIE.... she is redeemable, anyone can be redeemable.  I just don't feel it's likely anymore. *sad frowny face*  All that marathon sex...  *sadder frowny face*  Man, I just hate to see 11 000 years of history go down the drain.  It makes those 11 000 years feel wasted.  I would feel so much better about that time if Acheron had actually secretly been in love the whole time and just been refusing to admit that he was enjoying his time with her.  (As I said, a little S&M could have been fun, it didn't have to mean Artie was a cruel bitch, it's all how you write it)

Acheron & Artemis: why it's all Ash's fault

.... you know, it's Acheron's fault.  It's his fault I got attached to Ash/Artie.

1. He implied that he had a "girlfriend" to everyone...  implying he felt loyalty to her and felt he should be faithful... that made me think he had serious feelings or he'd be screwing around.

2. He calls Artemis "Artie" in a friendly sort of way, you don't give your enemies nicknames unless they are derroagatory.

3. He keeps talking about his old love for her and his current lust for her.  (granted he resents that he felt/feels that, but every hero resents their weakness towards their heroine at some point, it's part of the natural fall)

Oh my!! A DH discussion. I

Oh my!! A DH discussion. I have followed this series since the beginning. I can't wait for Acheron.

Janet - I think by the time you have caught up and read all the books you will be against a Artemist/Acheron story too. No way I am for that one. No way. NO WAY!!!!

I'm not much for the spoliers and teasers. They frustrate me. Yell

Star #2...  welcome to the

Star #2...  welcome to the thread.  I love more peeps to talk to about the series.

Wow, after book six, does everyone magically start hating Artemis?  Am I going to hate her too once I read more?  I love bitchy unlikeable people...   I love love/hate relationships.  I had these hopes....

I want Acheron/Artemis, but it feels like it's being discouraged now from all sides.  Too bad.  A couple throwing away 11 000 years of marathon sex and intense emotions seems like a waste of shared history.  But I think I'll give myself a couple days to cool down on the Ash/Artie front, then dig back in with reduced expectations.  I mean, up until you guys shat all over my AA parade, I was happily dancing along from one AA scene to the next, loving the Ash/Artie/Simi dynamic.  *teasing grin*  Tongue out

I like Simi and how

she is so childlike but wouldn't you like to see her grow up a bit more and have a true love. Changing subject just a bit here. Trying to get your mind going in another direction. Maybe not working but it's worth a try.

Deb...  it's not that I no

Deb...  it's not that I no longer appreciate the books  ;)  Knowing hasn't killed my interest.  I'm going to treat it like a fact about the book and get used to it.

And yessssss...  The Simi... *rubs hands together gleefully evilly*   Barbeque sauce!  Travis Fimmel!  The akri!  Heifer goddess.  The bitch goddess.  Her horneys.  The Barbies.  Everything Simi says is just adorable.  I love her.   *gives her a good pat*

She has her own

credit card and loves the shopping channel. I laugh whenever Simi is involved. She always wants to eat everyone. It's hysterical.

There are some stories

There are some stories where Ash and Artemis and Simi just don't appear as much.  :(   And I miss them when they aren't there.

If/when Ash gets a lasting HEA....  (there seems to be a bit of a debate if it'll be a clear cut HEA in his book) ...  will the books stop relying on Ash, stop his constant appearances?   He's soooo powerful and there's secrets about his identity being kept...  I just love having the story of Ash on the edge...  I still want Ash to be the RING LEADER of the Dark Hunters even if he's settling into married life with babes.

I'm just trying to imagine the series if you take away all the suspense about the uber powerful Ash.  He just keeps everyone on their toes, afraid of him, not able to relax around him.  If everyone knows or Ash settles down too much, things will be different.

*is being a bit of a downer, but is really just curious and pandering to her curiousity*

Ash

Well Ash will always be my favorite. But I have to say, after reading the last book, I am dying to know more about Jaden. He is a hottie. ;-)

Star - I agree with you. In the very beginning I thought these two might work it out. But that was before I knew more of their story. There are things in the last few books, glimpses in to Ash's past, Ash's and Artemis's past, that are just soooo terrible. She would have to have a head injury and wake up a completely different person with no memory, and fall in love all over again from the start to make HEA with ASH fly. LOL.

*frowny face*

*frowny face*  :(

Guess I better hope I get turned off of AA soon!

Marissa Hunter???

All this conversation had me thinking so I googled "Acheron's heroine". OMG so many things popped up. Interesting reading. ONe person has a theory that his heroine is Marissa Hunter. This is the person's reasoning.....1. Although she's a child, there's nothing to say that Acheron's love story doesn't skip a few years ahead to where she is old enough. 2. They talk about how powerful Marissa is. So powerful that Apollymi wanted to get her hands on her. That she is said to "hold the very balance of the universe in her hands" and "whoever possessed her, possessed the key to control the most primal, ancient power of all time." - thinking this most primal and ancient power of all time is Acheron.

So if the heroine was in Dream Hunter.. is Marissa in Dream Hunter? If not then we are left with Tory and Thia and Artemis. That I can recall.

Then I saw a you tube vid a friend sent me from dragcon 2006 where sherrilyn is being interviewed and says she just blew up Ash's heroine on a boat, but didn't know how she was going to fix it yet.  In Dream Hunter there is a boat explosion. Have to go back and see who else made it out alive other than the Katra and the Heroine from that book. But I'm thinking that Tory and Thia were on that boat. I don't remember them dying. Can't remember if Artemis was there. Doesn't seem likely. I am definitely going to go look. Kenyon said she did not want to rewrite the scene, so who knows what she did, she may have rewritten it, or decided on a different heroine altogether.

Another person said they think the heroine is Tory, who is Artemis in disguise. Hmmmm.

Interesting theories. Can't wait until the book comes out to see for myself.

Hmmm...  I don't know

Hmmm...  I don't know about the Marissa thing.  For a moment reading your post I thought "oooh interesting, she might be powerful enough for Ash".  (I don't really like Ash ending up with a human, I'd like him to get a powerful mate)  But then I thought, Ash has changed diapers for this girl and played Barbies with her.  He FEELS paternal around her I think.  He feels protective of her.   While you can go from "feeling protective" to "falling in love", I feel like Ash wouldn't go there with Marissa, that he might just take the role of "guiding Marissa" not being her future HEA himself.  Kyrian and Amanda might get heart palpatations at the idea too.  You know how Ash felt about Nick and the Simi Incident?   Ash wouldn't pull a Nick on a friend of his by sleeping with the daughter.

Janet

Yeah, I had the same feelings when I read the theory about Marissa as well. But then the Tory being Artemis is Disguise is interesting. But, it would be one more trick from her. Ash has already put up with enough trickery and deceit. And there was nothing in Dream Hunter that made me think Tory wasn't genuine - that I remember. I think she was the heroine's cousin. So how could that be Artemis?

Oh Star.... I would leap on

Oh Star.... I would leap on that theory about Tory at this point.  Don't let me get my hopes up about Acheron/Artemis!   Tongue out

I can't

see Marissa and Ash he was just too maternal with her. His love of children comes through in all his appearances so don't think she'd go there. Of course I could be totally wrong. We'll just have to wait and see.

Deb

I agree.

Marissa is Ash's sister,

Marissa is Ash's sister, Ryssa, reincarinated.Surprised

How did

I miss that or did you pick that up on a discussion somewhere.

Actually thought of that

Actually thought of that quite a while ago.....if it is posted somewhere...i havent read it yet.

thedobes...  wtf!!

thedobes...  wtf!!  seriously???  I did think "hmmm" when Marissa was nick named "Rissa" and then three pages later a "Ryssa" was referred to....  but heck.  It's just a random twist of fate that she ended up reincarnated in Kyrian and Amanda's offspring??  I thought Marissa's powers came from being the child of a Dark Hunter and Sorceress, not from being a god reincarnated.

When was this hinted at or confirmed?  I have only read the first six books, so there's tons I don't know yet.

whoops

duplicate post.  sorry

This is NOT

This is NOT confirmed......just a random thought that popped in my head after reading the series up to now.

A very intelligent

guess. I don't remember thinking anything about the whole name thing. Now I'm very curious about that and hope we'll find out in the future. Glad you dropped in on this discussion. You just brought a new tidbit to ponder.

Hmmmm

Never heard or thought about the Rissa/Ryssa thing. Interesting.

Star - I agree with you. In

Exactly there is no love between Ash and Artemis. A head injury wouldn't do it for me. What about Ash's memory? She can forget all she wants, but he will still have his. That will not work for me.

After watching him help so many of the DH, it's his time. We have had glimpses of his life through the other books. I can't wait to read his entire story.

I keep checking the library status to see if my copy is ready to pick up or if my pre-order has shipped. Surprised

FYI Dark-Hunter peeps...

FYI Dark-Hunter peeps...  I just reviewed/blogged DH books 2 through 7 today...  the blogs are here;

Already

checked em out and enjoyed your comments and I really like your fav scenes as they are some of mine too. I'd forgotten about Marissa chewing on the Barbie's head. I love the unexpected humor in some of the books. Each book just brings a unique element into this world that Kenyon's built.

I love reliving the fav

I love reliving the fav scenes.  :)

General note....

About ACHERON as a BABY NAME...  *innocent grin*

Go check out my thread on that funny topic...  http://community.eharlequin.com/content/romantically-inspired-baby-names

Do I

hehehehe... well, people

hehehehe... well, people didn't like the idea of me torturing the kiddies with crazy names.  *innocent grin*  But I'm still bent on picking names that are romantic, classic, and meaningful.  Don't want any Jessicas, Jennifers, here. But we'll see

Anyway...  back to the subject of DARK HUNTERS...

I need a bit of a kick.  I went back to reading D-H, I read one more book post-death-of-Acheron/Artemis as a couple.  Now I'm stuck with my fingers hovering over "Unleash the Night" the story of Wren and Maggie.  I need a bit of a KICK to get me into it.  I skimmed it thoroughly (of course, you know what kind of peeker I am).  And I'm a little hesitant over the fact that this book doesn't focus on a sexy vamp-like DH (I'm more into the DH then the were-creatures), also hesitant that there doesn't seem to be as much Acheron, Simi, or Artemis appearances.  Kind of intrigued when I read that Wren is a virgin.

So anyway...  can someone give me a little push about this book?

A few questions =)

Okay so I have read the DH  books and I love them! I sooo can not wait for Acheron book (which hehehe i know he gets with Tory ^.^) So I think I either missed a book or maybe I just skimmed a part I shouldn't have....Okay so 1. Katra is Acheron's daughter right?( one he had with Artemis)....2. I read in one book that Apollymi was Acheron's mother and I read in another that Apollymi was Acheron's sister...so I am a little confused...I will go re-read them but I was wondering if someone could answer these for me?

Well, I haven't read far

Well, I haven't read far enough into the series myself yet, so I can't answer the questions.  Someone else jump in?

(I had spoiled myself on the Katra thing.  And from all the hints I've read so far, it sounds like Acheron's mother is the Destroyer, and is forcibly imprisoned so she can't cause the end of the world.  If Appollymi is free and interacting with other characters, then she can't be that mother, so if she is free, maybe she is a sister?  I do know that Appollymi is very protective of Acheron.)

Mom

From what I understand she is definitely his mother. And at least in the books I've read so far, she is not free at all. However there was the one book where she kind of went into the body of someone else - Geary I think? Or somehow gave her some power or something. But she is still imprisoned. And I also think that Ash cannot even go see her in person. They needed her help and I think Sin went? I can't remember, it has been so long since I read the last book!

She's

his mother and he goes and visits her sometimes. Artemis has to help him somehow to visit her.
