First RWA Conference Sale for Community Member!

Sandra.JPG

For one special Community member, San Francisco will not only be where she left her heart, but where she sold her first book to Silhouette and you heard it here first!

Grab your tootie horns and tiaras ladies, community member and soon-to-be Silhouette Desire author Sandra Hyatt sold at the conference here in San Francisco this very morning. She got the call from editor Diana Ventimiglia at 7am and by the time she was wrapping up the call, her girlfriends/critique partners in the adjoining rooms tipped off by the squeeling, were heard screaming like banshees and tonight were seen partying and dancing up a storm at the Harlequin Party.

The glowing newbie author has been writing for 10 years and now her moment has finally arrived and her dream come true.

Well done and congratulations Sandra, let the official community party begin!

Cheers,

Jayne

I Sold

Thanks you so much for all the congratulations.

The news is still sinking in. I had the BEST day yesterday. To actually be at an RWA conference when I got the news was amazing. And it came completely out of the blue. I'm used to waiting months to hear on projects, but probably only a month ago I won a critique by Melissa Jeglinski on the Diamonds Down Under Blog. I sent in the manuscript expecting just the critique and instead yesterday morning as I step out of the shower my room mate, the wonderful Tessa Radley starts pounding on the door to tell me Diana Ventimiglia (who she'd been emailing) wanted to call me. So I'm trying desperately not to get my hopes up (in case it was about something else altogether)  while trying to get Tessa, who was jumping out of her skin to calm down. The phone rings, and it's Diana saying they wanted to BUY my manuscript. I think I pretty much went into shock at that stage. And by then Tessa had got my other critique partners Abby Gaines and Karina Bliss from the room next door and the screaming drowned out any further sane conversation.

Then I got to spend the whole day surrounded by author friends who totally get the wonderfullness of the news (and none of whom would want me to cook dinner for them at the end of the day). AND I got to go to the Harlequin party at the conference. Did I feel like Cinderella or what?

So after about ten years of writing, sometimes hanging in by my fingernails, it's finally happened. And I'm so happy.

WTG

Congratulations, Sandra.

Congratulations, Sandra. What a great place to be when you got the call, and to have your wonderful critique partners on hand to share it all with you.

Yippee Sandra. Congratulations.

That's probably the best place to get your news. I totally caught that comment about not being expected to cook at the end of the fabulous day. Sealed

I'll be looking for your book on the shelves.

Sandra's call home

Well, since I double posted and we still can't delete from our end, I've a question for you:

When did you phone home and what was the 1st word out of hubby's mouth?

WOW!

I bet you're still flying high over the Golden Gate Bridge!  Congrats on your sale!!

Hubby's first words

Well, seeing as you asked Anita Mae... when I finally got hold of Scott who was somewhere in Oregon without a cell phone, he said "congratulations" (he's always believed I'd sell even when I was doing the 'it's never going to happen' thing) and then sadly, but bearing in mind that it was evening by this time, he said "don't get drunk". To which I had to reply "I think it's too late - the champagne is already open." Hope that doesn't make me sound like a lush.

Aurelene

You're so right Aurelene about that feeling of validation, that although I had faith in myself, and my friends had faith in me, finally an editor is wanting to buy my manuscript. And though that's the only thing that's changed between now and two days ago, I do feel like 'yes - I'm not an imposter'.

MarcieR

The San Francisco marathon is on tomorrow and I'm feeling like I could do it just on pure excitement!

Erratic posting

I'm posting from a hotel computer in the midst of the conference so my posting will be kind of erratic but I'll try and get back on throughout the day, and then tomorrow I'm back on a plane to New Zealand. So while I'll be desperate to keep in touch it's going to be tricky - doesn't mean I'm not so thrilled to have all of your support. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

CONGRATULATIONS...

Sandra, what a wonderful way to hear your news at RWA!  I live 73 miles north of San Francisco which gave me the opportunity to go for the book signing.  It was so much fun & I loved seeing all the authors.  I'm going to post more on another thread as this blog is for you.  I will be looking forward to hearing more about your book.  Have a safe journey home.

Take care, happy reading,

Sandra, I've said it in a private email but congratulations again! I know how hard you've worked toward this, and it's just so wonderful that it came out of the blue and while you were with likeminded people. Nothing surpasses that!

BTW, even when your plane lands in New Zealand you'll still be in the clouds for weeks to come. Enjoy your success!!!!

First of all, HUGE congrats winging their way from me. I hadn't seen you for a bit in the SSE thread, had no idea you were aiming for Desire as well.

Very exciting that you were told you sold at the conference. I think you're the envy of a lot of people who dream that this very thing will happen to them one day.

Have a safe flight home, go celebrate in true fashion with the hubby and I don't think it makes you sound like a lush at all that you told him it was too late the champagne was already open...I'd be drunk on pure joy all by itself.

Congrats again, girlfriend, you deserve it!

Sandra!!!

WooHoo, what fantastic news. Cyber champers! And what great timing. Smile

I've never met either Sandra or Trish

but that photo looks like Sandra might be sitting and Trish is leaning around her (maybe after a hug)

but as I've said I have no idea of their relative heights Smile

Hugs again Sandra, I'm looking forward to buying and reading your book
