8-08-08, oh, what a date!

August 8th, 2008 8-08-08 what a great date

I love these numbers. Best wishes to all the people who are getting married today. And happy birthday to my friend Holly Jacobs. She’s so much fun to hang with at a party. And she’s an awesome writer, too.

And today is the opening of the Summer Olympics. It feels more real
to me having visited Beijing, but, boy, am I glad I’m not there. The
crowds must be unreal.

I thought you might like a few more China pics to get in the mood.
This was the Olympic counter when I was there, situated right across
from Tienneman Square. (Spelling…sorry. Too lazy to look up.)

Here’s a lion telling you to back up because you’re approaching the entrance to the Forbidden Palace.

This is inside the Forbidden Palace. That bodiless tourist in the foreground is my sister.

Isn’t this a peculiar mode of transportation? Very brave drivers jostle for position with hundreds of tour buses.

It was cold and gray in Beijing in March, but our guide said it was
going to be scalding and arid in August. Another reason to watch. These
are super athletes in a very difficult setting. I’m pulling for them
all.

Go, athletes of the world!!

the number 8

Thanks, Orchard-chin. Glad you liked them. I should dig out more. I posted some right after I got back then got tired of re-sizing and couldn't remember where/what and when. Ack! But the Beijing are self-evident because that was the first day we arrived in China.

Kaelee, I love zuchini bread/cake. How perfect for a gardener like Holly.  Let's hope she has some.

Hope, I love the number 8. When I was kid, I'd make up stories about the numbers. 7 and 6 were boyfriend and girlfriend, respectively. 8 was a homebody. The plump roundness implied someone who was content and likeable.

I know. I was a strange kid. Probably no wonder I became a writer.

And I missed noting that today is Ronda's birthday, too. I created the original post on my personal blog and didn't have my list of names. Ack! Sorry, Ronda. Hope it was/is most bountiful and joyous.

Horizonal 8

Have anyone notice that when you write 8, then turn the paper 90 degrees, the 8 lies at horizonal angle, it looks like a mathematic symbol that means 'a number is infinite large', shortened as  'infinity'.

I found it interesting. Laughing

Happy Birthday, Holly!

I love that bit about bringing to the numbers to life, Debra!  Made me smile.  But not because I think it's strange.  When I was a kid I used to make up stories involving even my food.  My peas would have conversations with my chicken nuggets, etc.  Strange, I know.  But I think these quirks were just primitive preludes to our future story-telling abilities, don't you? Wow, Orchid...

I never noticed that about the number eight.  But now I think I see what you mean.  That's interesting.

was getting married 08-08-08 as well. DEB, I hope the wedding was beautiful and that you didn't have any last minute glitches. Wishing you and your husband all life's best and more great scuba diving.

horizontal 8 and talking food

Oh, this is a fun thread.

I never noticed that a horizontal 8 makes the infinity sign, but I LOVE it. And it makes sense to me that so many people would rush to get married on this opportune date.

But not me, Kae-lee. I've been married forever. To my high school sweetheart. Cliche but true.

Amanda, I agree absolutey that talking food and romantic numbers were hints of our future writer leanings. When I read your post, I immediately could picture your peas rolling a little closer to the nuggets and saying something like, "Hey, whatcha all doing later?" Tongue out

Deb, who has new respect for the number 8

a different Deb, I bet

Kae-lee, in reading back the earlier posts I see that the person getting married is a Deb, too. Right? The scuba diving part threw me because my hubby and I used to dive all the time. We still enjoy it just don't get the chance as much.

I wish the new married couple a lifetime of joy and great adventures.

Yes it was a different DEB

that got married yesterday. She posted a couple of blogs about her preps for the wedding and I remembered about it. I don't imagine that she is doing any blogging today though.

Lots of times Cliches work-glad yours did.

Our lottery tickets bought yesterday didn't so will have to keep dreaming.

High School Sweetheart

I know 3 (yes, three) couples (good friends of mine too, no less) who are high school sweetheart & have been married since graduated from high school.  They are married from 24-26 years, first knew each other for about 30 years.

Well, I am not too far off, me & dh got to know each other in 2nd year of college, through our mutual friends (those friends whom we knew in our high-schools).

8 in Chinese sounds as 'rise as in rise in souffle or cake', that 'rise' can also mean 'good fortune', that's why it is such a popular #.

Debra: I like the 'plump' look of 8

Amanda: Laughing this is the first I heard talking to food Sealed.  Playing with food - yes, food fights - yes, talking to food-too cute Innocent

*Waving Hi to Kaelee*

Another interesting look: horizontal 8, oo , two whole together become infinity.  I think this is sweet.

two wholes

Excellent observation, Orchid. Two whole make one. Very nice.

I'm jazzed that someone in this community got married on 8-08-08. That is so fun. I wish them all the best.

We have one other couple who were in our class who married right out of high school and are still married. A third pair divorced a couple of years ago. And a fourth pair never dated in high school, weren't even friends, but got together at our our class's 10th reunion. They're still together. Isn't that romantic?
