Harlequin Award Ceremony

Me, Nancy and Cindi.jpg

Okay, the awards ceremony at Harlequin's big party in San Francisco was really the highlight of the trip for me.  I really was excited about getting my pin (you can ask anyone I flashed it at...sometimes flashing it at the same person more than once! LOL).  For me, it really is a symbol of the dream come true I feel I'm living.  Books raised me in so many ways.  I can't remember a time I wasn't reading one...or more.  My very first love was Lazurus Long, a character in a Heinlein book.  I mean, I fell for him hard.  Wink  And for a long time, I only whispered the idea of writing a book of my own to myself late at night--I didn't tell anyone.

Then one day, I bit the bullet, got brave and said the words, I want to write.  And when I started writing, Harlequin was my goal.  And now, with twenty-five books for them under my belt--and my very cool pin to show for it--I'm happy to say, I've loved every minute of it!  I love going to work each day on my stories.  I love hanging out with my characters in my head.  And I love that writing has led me here...I've got so many friends on eHarlequin.

So, here's me, Nancy and Cindi...two great friends who shared the special night with me!

Duh

I should probably have added, that's Nancy Warren and Cindi Meyers...two great authors as well as friends!

And here's the pic of the whole group...I'm the floating head in the back, which seems strangely appropriate since I was floating the entire trip! LOL

Wow, Holly...

...I didn't realize you have twenty-five books under your belt!  Congrats on the huge milestone!!  I find it extremely inspirational that you kept your desire to write a secret for a while, then found the courage to speak out your heart's wish to be a writer.

Looks like you had a great time at the award ceremony!

Amanda!

Thanks Amanda!  And yes, dreams are scary things...and for me, this was such a big one, it was hard to say it outloud and realize it might never come true.  But I was lucky, my family believed in me from the very beginning.  I'd sold books to other publishers, but was still trying to break into Harlequin.  I started to wonder if it would ever happen and told my dh, maybe it was time to think about getting a real job.  This was January '00.  He told me no, he knew I'd do it.

I sold I Waxed My Legs for This? in March '00 to Duets, and then Do You Hear What I Hear? to Silhouette Romance in June '00.  He's never let me live it down that he was right!  LOL

That's probably one of the...

...only times you're glad he's able to say 'I told you so', right?  Men love being able to say that, don't they?!  LOL

I'm still dreaming.  Like your hubby, mine's pretty supportive too.  He tries to pep me up on those rotten days when I feel I'm going nowhere.   He may not understand every aspect of my writing, but he knows how important it is to me.  As for the rest of my family, they're not all aware of my goals, because I'm not sure they'd understand.

I love that title I waxed my legs for this!  Was it your title or the editor's?

YAY!!

It was great seeing you get your pin (and cheering when your name was announced).

Amanda and Biddy!

Amanda,  Your husband sounds like a keeper too!  You know my fingers are crossed for you...seriously, crossed!!  There's a Richard Bach quote (I'm paraphrasing badly), You are never given a wish without a means to make it come true...it just takes hard word.  And yes, the title was mine...I still adore it! Hey, Biddy my well knackered friend!!  Thanks!  I could hear you cheering me on!  <g> Holly

I loved Did I Wax My Legs For This

I didn't realize that you had written 25 books either. I think I missed the Silhouettes. Congratulations on the pin. I am exactly halfway through Same Time Next Summer and I am enjoying it very much. Holly you warned me that it was a serious book but there are threads of humor in it. I haven't peeked at the end yet so I'm really hoping it's a happy one. Back to the book.

Oh, Kaelee, thanks!

Kaelee,

Oh, I'm so glad you enjoyed I Waxed My Legs for This?  It will always have a firm place in my heart!  And I'm glad you're enjoying Same Time Next Summer.  Even my most serious books still have that thread of humor.  I can't help it. It's really how our family rolls.  <g>

Cheering again

Just as I did on that great night at the Harlequin party . .

I was so so happy to be there cheering for you on the night you got your 25 book pin, my lovely friend. It was one of the highlights of  my conference.   And you can flash your pin at me any time!

 Congratulations again

Kate (who has just about recovered from being knackered by the jet lag and the trip home)

Kate and Frenchie!

Kate, LOL  I'm so glad you recovered!  And part of what made the night so special was the people I shared it with!  Frenchie, my stoner friend, thanks!  Speaking of stones, I swore I was done for the year, but I found a great cache of very pretty ones while we were getting wood the other day and couldn't resist bringing them home.  So I have a small pile started for next year's stoning adventures!  LOL Thanks again!
