I actually forgot that this (past) weekend was the Animethon weekend here in Edmonton. For those not into anime (Japanese animation), those who are rabid (or not) fan-girls / boys (aka otaku), anime conventions have become pretty big business world-wide and North America is no stranger to the phenomenon. Think Star Trek conventions... pretty much the same premise, but dealing with anime.
Anyway, to get back to the point of this blog, this past weekend was the fifteenth Animethon (anime convention) here in Edmonton. I, of course attended ~ not that I consider myself a fan-girl... more just a fan of the genre ~ and I've been involved with Animethon first as a small-time vendor / convention attendee to a full-time attendee (and shopper).
As usual, I spent a fair bit of change pursuing another of my hobbies ~ albeit one that still involves "collecting": that's one thing all my hobbies have in common. This year I again went with my youngest daughter, who is also still a fan, and met up with a couple of friends and fellow anime-addicts. I've been attending the anime convention now for 8 years at least... and I've been into collecting anime cards (et al) for almost 15 years. I've had a lot of time to increase the size of my collection, refine it and include new and different collectibles. Hoo boy... have I ever.
But I also sell and trade, which makes my loving DH a happy man.
As I said at the beginning, I really didn't have a lot of reading & reviewing time... that'll be later. After I finish cataloguing the pencilboards (shitajiki), clear files, DVDs and other assorted odds-and-ends that I came home with. Fun, fun, fun all the way around. Then I'll get back to my more mainline hobby ~ reading and books!

Sounds like fun! I guess
Sounds like fun! I guess hamfests (ham radio) are my equivalent although I like the smaller, less noisy ones where there is as much soicializing as buying. I have been rying to find all my college photos in our basement after moving after discovering college and a high school friend on Facebook. I have a feeling if I can find my photo albums, that will be a fun diversion for us all.

Merri... the Hamfest sounds great...
Any time you get together with people that share an interest it can lead to a lot of fun .... that anyone on the 'outside' might wonder about.
That is so cool that you found someone that you know on Facebook! For me, the only real draw there is family. Most of my nieces and nephews are there ~ and now my Friends as well as two of my four children. Then there are the others that I know either from church or that are my daughters' friends, and/or kids that I've babysat.
But finding someone that is from your past like that ~ that's just neat!
And I love going through old photo albums... talk about time travel.
