Thanksgiving Dinner Ideas?

I’ve agreed just last night to host Thanksgiving at my house again this year for family on my husband’s side (my side is scattered to Florida, Georgia and Texas!) so that means I’ll have thirteen people (and the list keeps growing!) from babies to grandparents, milling around my too small combined dining/living room in less than a week.

Not sure if I've mentioned this before, but I don’t cook.

In my book, Merry Christmas, Cowboy (out on the shelves for just another week or so) Lauren (the heroine) tells Seth (the hero) that when she was a little girl, she'd asked her mother for a Cabbage Patch doll for Christmas. She never got one. Even though that was many years ago, she still remembers not getting the doll she wanted so badly.

Favorite Time of the Year - We Have a Winner

I figured there would be several Halloween blogs going around right now, so I thought I’d blog about another reason why this is my favorite time of the year. As I’ve mentioned before, I live in Arizona, so October is the first of our good weather following long, hot summers. In the past few weeks, I’ve finally been able to get back outside and complete projects that came to a halt once the temperature hit 100-degrees.

One of those projects is the planter in the picture. I finished it last spring, but by then, it was already getting hot, and anything I planted would likely die. So I waited and waited and waited…

Every once in a while I’ll be writing a scene where I have to ask myself if what’s happening is too coincidental. Will readers buy into it or not? Or, for that matter, will my my critique partner or editor, who are my frontline readers. Because one thing I’ve learned in life—coincidences happen. I recently spent five days in Disneyland with my family, and we ran into 21 families who at least one of us knew. Twenty-one! It was so much fun seeing people who also live 450 miles away, all enjoying family time in the Happiest Place on Earth.

I spent this past weekend at the coast (Pacific, that is). I visited the Monterey Bay Aquarium for the first time, and it was spectacular. They have a new seahorse exhibit that is awesome. Then while eating breakfast on Sunday morning, I watched dolphins, seals and sea otters playing in the surf only a hundred feet away.

How many cooks spoil the broth? How many thoughts spoil a story?

I’ve always written from both the hero and heroine’s point of view in my stories as I am a big believer in the old saying “there are two sides to every story” (just ask my husband!) In fact, I often find myself inside my hero’s head for long stretches of time with my heroine tapping me on the shoulder, demanding her share of space on the page to get her thoughts and feelings out there.
