Does anyone out there read this comic? After 29 years Lynn Johnston is going to retire -sort of. She is the only author I have ever met in person at a book signing. My mother read her strip faithfully everyday and we got books signed for her. Right when my mother was very ill, the mother in the strip was ill and dying as well and I couldn't read the strip. This past spring I read all her books again from the beginning. What a wonderful slice of life and all it's diversities. I will miss the ongoing story so much.

Kaelee, regarding the comic
Kaelee, regarding this comic strip, I remember it. For a few years, I used to look up for it everyday.
It's was a down to earth, all about a regular family, kids, pets, parents. The author did a wonderful job in getting readers to feel /echo the sentiments through her comic.
I shall miss it.

I've been following the strip since I was a kid, though I think it really went downhill when Liz left Paul for Anthony -- ditching the hot mountie who loved her for a gas station accountaint who was emotionally unfaithful to his wife while she was suffering from PPD, bleh.
Oh, I love that strip.
I read it every day -- have it bookmarked to read online. She deserves to retire but I'll miss her work!

I shouldn't have posted this
as I'm going to be gone for a couple of days but I just felt like I would miss the ongoing story so much after I read the strip today. I know all her strips didn't agree with everyone but she wrote life as it happens. I know some of her older strips will continue to run but even though she wrapped up quite a few story lines today, I will miss it.
Thanks Orchid Werefan and Penn for your comments.

Lynn's strip is being repeated
but since I read all her books this spring I am not enjoying it as much as when she had an ongoing story line. Or well I will have to read a few other strips for my daily fix. Since she is a year older than me I think she needs to enjoy her retirement.
Does anybody know if I can post her books for the reading challenge?

Kaelee I hoping that it
Kaelee
I hoping that it is allowed. Other than romance books, I love comics, quite a few, as a matter of fact. Maybe you can ask Jayne or Lorie.
Thanks for bringing this up. Looking forwarding to reading your reviews on this one (or any others).

I don't know why you
I don't know why you couldn't post them, they are books. I love the strip and am definately going to miss it. My understanding is that she lost some of her passion for the strip after she went through a bad divorce. I was pleased to see the wrap-up in Sunday's paper.

I will think about posting them but probably wouldn't do a long review as I would have to check most of them out of the library
Cady I didn't realize that Lynn had gone though a second divorce. After 32 years of marriage. Boy that's scary. I was worried about my husband dying on me after the funeral I attended this week but divorce would be so much more devastating I think.
Anyhow after checking this out I now realize Lynn is still going to put out a strip but it will be repeats of her old strip with some new elements worked in. More attention will be paid to when Michael meets Deanna in grade school for example. I think she did a good job wrapping up the story lines last Sunday. She sure tackled some controversial topics in her strip over the years.

I don't know why this hit me so hard but I am getting less weepy. The computer is fixed so that will help a bit as I will be able to explore again. I have a whole bunch of books due at the library so I have been trying to read them. I am trying to stay busy. Today I am going to clean my bathrooms so they look less like the service station variety.LOL Thanks for thinking about me.

Kaelee, I guess it's
Kaelee,
I guess it's normal to feel more emotional sometimes more the others.
Keeping busy is a good way to keep the mind occupy & later the perspective changes a little.
Glad to hear that you are feeling better.
Have you ever read 'Stephanie Bond' Series by Janet Evanovich? You might get a good laugh from it. I've read 1-13 of that series, but have to space them one at a time (many books in between), because the jokes were too formulated in later series, but that's just MHO.

I did read the first seven earlier this year but then I bottomed out on the slightly gross humor. There are 14 now. I probably could go back to reading them again but I have so many other books I think I would enjoy more right now. I will probably read one of them every once in a while. I really liked her series with Charlotte Hughes -the Full series and I like all her romances. I saw another has been rereleased so will have to watch for it at the library. Funny thing I think I only own one of her books -an old one. Hey here's some more books I could post. I did a lot more reading when I wasn't spending time here on this site but this is more fun.

Jokes can get old...
I agree with you, the first few books (up to #5 or 6) of that series was fun, then the jokes, characters & events were all repeating themselves in slightly different forms. Seems to me she is now writing the stories according to a set table.
I read 2 of her much older books (someone lend them to me & make sure I read them), similar jokes, similar basis of characters. Maybe the demand is still good for those kind of jokes & her style, some of my friends snapped up the #14 when it came out.
I am glad to know that you feel the same way of her books, I thought I was the only one who get tired of her style.
I haven't been reading books as much as I want to
, since I spend quite a bit of my spare time here, but I enjoy it
.

I started reading Sue Grafton, A is for Alibi etc and the same thing happened. I read four of them but my husband made it through six. I think there is a reason you read them one at a time. I will go back to Sue Grafton sometime but not sure of Stephanie Plum ones. I have read Jill Churchill, Joanne Fluke, and JoAnna Carl. I have read all of their books but read them as they came out and maybe this is why I like them better. I also read some of the cat mysteries but none lately. I hope you are enjoying your time off. I think I read that you were off but it was when I was on the old computer and it wouldn't always allow me to comment.

For Better For Worse
Oh, dear, Lynn Johnston is retiring. I used to read her comic strip faithfully. But up here in the northwoods, the local paper is only twice weekly and no comics.
Someone mentioned reading them online. Where is that site?

A 'Fortnight' off
Kaelee
Yes, I had mentioned that I am taking a fortnight off (know that word, but never thought of using it before, sound a little formal, thank you for bringing it up
). Nothing exciting, I scheduled to take this time off because I thought my dd might be deployed, but her schedule's been changed to next May, so she is not coming home now
, not until Christmas
. More time for me to read
.
I think the reason why I am reading HQ series, because there are so many authors, HEA romance stories but different styles of writing. I haven't read any of the books you mentioned,
. Maybe I should expand my reading horizon.
I read the 'Harry Potter', I got bored by the 5th one, dislike the 6th, fortunately the 7th wrapped up very nicely. I read all of them because I wanted to know the ending, otherwise I would have stopped after the 5th. IMHO, the movies are much much better than the books. The marketing dept of that publisher did a wonderful job in promoting that series & the movie director & screenwriters make the story more exciting. That's just my 3 cents
.

Lynn and Penn
Thanks Penn for letting Lynn know where to read the comics online. I would have never been able to post it as I am definitely not able to do neat things like that.
Lynn Johnston put out a compilation every year or so of her comics. For a while I stopped reading her comics as the story about Ellie's mother dying was hitting so very close to home. Then I started again and last winter and spring I read them all over the course of a couple of months. I knew at the time that LJ was thinking of ending her strip but she is keeping it up by bringing out old story lines and adding a bit to them. I will have to see what they work out to be.

I haven't read any of the Harry Potter books yet. I have a niece in her middle 30's who lined up to buy them as they came out. I probably could get them from the library without much of a wait factor but I still haven't decided if I want to read them or not so for now I don't want to know the ending. I don't go to many movies and I don't watch much TV except for Dancing With The Stars. I watch that so my sister and I have something to talk about other than her kids and grandkids. The last two movies I saw in a theater were the Incredibles and The Lion King. Both had been recommendations of some of the said grandkids above.
You have a daughter awaiting deployment. I hope she stays safe. I don't have kids but I can imagine what parents go through when their babies are deployed. I grew up with Viet Nam and the hippie movement. It seems like we can never live in peace. We humans are just too nasty to one another.
PS Enjoy your fortnight off. I hope you read lots.

LOL!
LOL! < ... we humans are just too nasty to one another. >
That's so true! Yet sad! (I shouldn't laugh
)
My dd has chosen to join the Air Force, she had been deployed once, for 4 months. No one in both side of our families was in the military or law enforcement. Don't know where she got that gene?! Thanks for your thought, I hope she stays safe too.
All I can say is, the movies of Harry Potter are much better than the books, but reading the books helps in understanding the background & some of the characters.
I've seen the cartoon movies you mentioned, I love cartoons & cooking shows. I seldom go to movies, since I have nerve deafness (fortunately I can hear the mid-section range of frequencies which is the normal daily sound, some people can only hear extreme end of frequencies that would be hard without hearing aid). We usually rent movies, so that I can read the sub-title if I missed anything.
The most recent movie I went to theatre to watch (the first after 10 years) was the Dark Knight-Batman. That's was a good one. The story talked about 'human's nastiness' also, but with good ending.
I have good plans for this fortnight, reading & logging in all the books I've read this year (maybe just a tad too ambitous on the logging part).
Orchid
I logged 2 books today Orchid
I don't know if I will log more tomorrow or not as my husband is home. But I hope to get myself in the logging review mode as Monday rolls around. I have quite a backlog sitting here and if I try to log some that I read in the first 3 1/2 months it is looking hugh.
I really admire your daughter. Is she a pilot?

Kaelee, Just log whenever
Kaelee,
Just log whenever you have time.
I try not to think of my backlog anymore, even though I joined the challenge since year starts & logged a few back then, I didn't log anything for a few months. I might do something drastic one of these days, that is, in the middle of the night, just log in the books I read from the beginning of the year, with a note "sorry, no time to write comment
", so as to take care of the 40-50 in my backlog. Maybe right before end of the year, just for the book count.
My dd cannot be a pilot, because she is not tall enough, minimum height requirement is 5'5''. I know it is selfish of me
, but I am relief, let's hope they are not going to change that requirement anytime soon. She works with computer mainly.
