So, I have this shiny new banner, which prompted this post....
The artist who created this banner is incredibly talented and does a fantastic job...much better than I would've done! If you're wondering what I'm referring to, in my bio, I've mentioned that I like to "fiddle with graphic design". Designing my own banners is just another creative outlet for me. :)
The very first banner I created was for promo purposes, but then I really got into the design aspects and had a blast with them. Um, sometimes spending way more time on them than I should have. *sheepish grin*
This time around, I took the smart route and had a banner created, because well...because I've always done at least one for my books. But seeing this spiffy new banner did get me to thinking about their effectiveness.
What do you think about banners?
When you've been surfing on the web, especially a review site or a website specific to books, has a banner ever made you stop for a second and read it?
Have you clicked through and read an excerpt or at the very least the blurb?
Did you ever buy a book because of one...okay, hopefully you bought the book because the writing and the story-line grabbed you, BUT the question is...did you discover or check out the book because of a banner you saw on-line?
I would love to hear your thoughts on the subject.

Banners ....
On an author's website .. and if they are promoting the author's own books or drawing attention to something the author feels is important ... then yes, I like the banners
anywhere else, they would look too much like advertising and I generally don't even see them anymore ... it's an automatic thing ... though I suppose if the banner were particularly catching I'd look at it, might read it, might click on it
BTW, I love your banner! ... every eye catching and it says just enough :)

Thanks for the feedback,
Thanks for the feedback, Katherine! I agree that so much can look like whitenoise, but if a banner really strikes my attention, I'll click. What can I say, I'm a crow...Oooh, shiny!
I'm so glad you like the banner, too!
