Hurricane Ike and leaving

I have decided to leave home and head for the Valley ie. the area along the Rio Grande to stay a few days with my brother.  You will not hear from me until I get back, but I'll let you know when I get back and how things went.

Ike Yikes

Dear Ellen,

Here's hoping Hurricane Ike turns around and stays at sea.  I think you're making the right move going to your brothers.  I sincerely hope any damage incurred is minimal.

Prayers for all those along the Gulf Coast.

Best Wishes,

Did y'all see the satellite pics?

I swear Ike was taking up most of the Gulf of Mexico during the noon news.

I started to wonder on Monday if you'd head out. I would have emailed you if I hadn't known already that you have someplace to go.

I emailed my friend in Houston on Monday that we're home and she or any of her friends can just hit the road and show up, but haven't heard from her. (I mean, I TOLD her she can just hit the road and I meant it, but I still expect that she'd call first. I need those hours to crisis clean!) We're expecting 3-5 times as many refugees up here as we had for Katrina and Rita, which is really overwhelming. They've already flown the sick people up . . .

Be safe, Ellen!

We'll be thinking of you and hoping you are weathering the storm!

Fortunately Ike only spread

Fortunately Ike only spread rain around the area where I live but I have a brother and his family in Houston.  The were lucky--brother had no damage other than limbs off a tree and no electricity; niece #1 lost part of her back fence and part of the roof off her garage and no electricity: niece #2 had no damage to her apartment and has electricity; nephew had no damage, but no electricity.

I am still in the valley but will be leaving tomorrow.

Penn I hope you are ok since I understand Ike was still spreading devestion up your way.

My son

went back to Houston yesterday but don't know what he was going back to. I haven't been able to get through to him. We knew he'd be without power so he went back with plenty of supplies. A few of his friends have extensive flood damage in Tomball. My daughter in Beaumont had some flooding, an uprooted tree but she's not as bad off as some of her neighbors. The families plights I've seen on the news are just heartbreaking.

So glad to hear

That you are okay. You won a book from Kimbery Van der Meter.  I think I read about your win on the Super forum. They are concerned about you over there and hoping you made it through Ike.

Deb -- hope your son finds things are not too bad.  Sorry to hear about his friends.  Glad your daughter is ok.
