Reading the Harlequin Moments blog - and loving it! - got me thinking about some of the books I read as a teen, some 30 years ago. I know I read many by Violet Winspear, Anne Hampson and Anne Mather and I seem to recall a title with the word Saffron in it. But I wish I could remember one book in particular: set in Spain, the H took the h on a picnic where he fed her spicy chorizo sausage and read The Alhambra. No more details come to mind at the moment. Hear bells ringing, anyone?

I found 2 possibilities:
The Saffron Sky by Isobel Chace - HR1250 Nov. 1968
Beneath a Saffron Sky by Jackie Weger HT 53 - April 1985
My guess is it's the first book.
Tammy
Tammy - I don't think it's the Isobel Chace one which was set
in Siam
The second one is set in Louisiana, so it doesn't look like the one either

Could it be the Valdez Marriage by Violet Winspear
""You will stay and marry my brother. "
Julio Valdez spoke
contemptuously. "Because of you, my brother, Ramon, is now a paralyzed
cripple, with very little to live for. But he wants you, so he shall
have you."
Julio's hard, unyielding expression warned Darcy it was
useless to argue. He was determined to tie her to a man she didn't
love, in a marriage that could never be consummated.
She would be forced to spend the rest of her life at Julio's Spanish estate—devoting herself to Ramon, but loving Julio!"
???
There don't seem to be any titles by either Mather or Winspear with Saffron in the title and I can't manage to find details on old Mather books to narrow down which ones were set in Spain

a Violet Winspear, but which one?
Google these titles and hopefully one of them will be helpful

Good luck!

You guys are amazing!
I think it was Girl at Goldenhawk, but I also think I've amalgamated several books in my memory. Maybe I'll have to go on a vintage Harlequin rampage to figure it out. Thanks so much. I knew if the answer could be found anywhere, it would be here!
