NaNoWriMo: The Sign Up Page

nano2008
November is National Novel Writing Month! Will you be joining in with us as we write, challenge and support each other through a month dedicated to writing?

If you're up to it, sign up here with your intended goal for the month and  November 1st, start writing! No part of your project written prior to Nov. 1st will count toward your total. Each day, you'll head to the NaNo page and report your total.

All projects are welcome! Here is the list of NaNo options:

Novella NaNo--A single project that is up to 25,000 words
Novel NaNo--A single project that is expected to be more than 25,000 words, but less than 100,000
Single Title NaNo--Going for the Gold? A single project that is aimed for 100,000 words or more.
Build Your Own Nano--Set your own goal, even if it's to finish multiple
projects to meet a certain word count or a set number of words per day.

So, sign up and decide which kind of NaNo is YOUR kind of NaNo!

I'll play

The NaNoManiac Returns!

I'm back - at last - and probably crazy for signing up this year. I'm on a business trip from Oct 19 through Nov 6, but I'll have my Alphie & laptop with me so I can't swear it's impossible...

Goal: 50k rough draft of contemporary series - not sure where it will fit yet.

Title: Don't Wanna, Don't Hafta, Aint Gonna

It's been cooking in my head for a couple of years...

Just not sure how easy it will be to post on the road.

I'm also signed up for this on the NaNoWriMo site.

I'm signing up too.  I'm going to start a new sub for the Romance line (same as Romy - hi!).  I too have a vague clue.  I know I am setting it in Hunter Valley, Australia and I know who my H and h are.  Am going to plot and research over the next few weeks so I am ready to go on 1st November.  I am aiming for around 50,000 words.  I will be cutting the finishing tight though as my research assistants are not back from visiting Australia including the actual Hunter Valley in the flesh until 25th November (take lots of pictures parents!!).

I'm In, Too

Over my head, probably.  Wink  It'll probably be either Novel NaNo or Build Your Own, depending on whether or not I get my chick lit wip licked before Nov. 1st. (22,041 words to go and counting!)

The target novel doesn't have a title yet.  I got the germ of the idea from Cheryl Wyatt's story starters that she runs on her scrollsquirrel.blogspot every month.  (If you haven't tried those yet, and ever are stuck for a good plot, go try them out.  She puts in 10 words to use, and a choice of 3 opening sentences.  Almost guaranteed to get the creative juices flowing.  And no, she's not paying me to say all this.)  November is probably NOT the best month to try it for the first time...unless you haven't got a good idea yet...

Are we going to put the day's favorite sentence again like last year?  That was fun.  Cool

Romy I may have to throttle you at some point during November but you've managed to convince me that I need to try this! So ... bring on the coffee, chocolate and very late nights! Kiss

I'm in.

I have gotten requests on the ones I complete during NaNo, even though I have not sold, so I have a simmering idea for another one.

i can't wait to start.Laughing

Betty, I've gotten requests from NaNo too.

It's a great experience and can yield results. The ms I wrote during NaNoWriMo two years ago was just requested by Presents. And I just received a revision letter from Desire on the one I wrote last November. The motivation of racing against the clock works for me.

I'm going to go with Novel NaNo this time. Halfway through the month I always wonder what I was thinking, but once it's over, I'm so glad I did it!

Yikes...thought I'd do this last year, didn't, and look--it's time for the 2008 NaNoWriMo already! So taking the plunge, FOR REAL (I signed up on the NaNoWriMo site too) this time, to write my first Blaze, as-yet-untitled. For now, it's the Joe & Claire story.

Nice to have a supportive community--glad I found this. :)

I guess I'm in. I just can't

I guess I'm in. I just can't seem to commit. Lord, a woman with commitmant issues. I want to complete something I am in the middle of. If that gets wrapped up early on, I have an idea for a novella.

Tina, that is fantastic

Tina, that is fantastic news!  One of the things I am always guilty of is writing a chapter and then editing all signs of life out of it. I'll create a chapter in a couple of days and then spend a month in editing it.   I find if I do not have time to edit it other than a brief cursery glance, and keep writing, somehow my story still has voice but the end product is so much more interesting than originally planned.

I can't wait to here how everyone does with their ms's. I am definitely doing the Novel.  I wrote over 78,000 words one year, so it is very doable.

more thoughts....

For those of you who have not tried it before, I want to encourage you to not sweat the small stuff.  I know that due to the holiday of thanksgiving, I will only be available to write 25 days in November, so I set a goal of 2000 words a day, which is approximately 8 ms pages.  If I fell behind thru the week, then on the weekends I made it up.  I typed on my lunch hour and every night from 10-midnight.

Set little goals.  If you get stuck, don't worry.  I had a ms planned once but when I got to tricky spot it would not work.  So I wrote something totally different and kept writing.  After I finished the ms, then I went back and reworked great chunks of it. I had that ms requested.

I can't wait to start typing!

I had a lot of fun last year although I didn't get to finish the ms (I was on track to meet my goal) as I got interrupted for a partial request. *G* And had to drop NaNo to do some polishing. Hmm...could I be so lucky again this year???

Good luck everyone.

Hello all! Good to be back!

Last year's experience was freaking awesome. Completed 50,000 and pitched it at RWA national and a partial has been requested!

Woohoo!

This year, I'm upping the ante. Single title Nano, 100,000 and the third book in the series. This year's project is tentatively titled Exposed.

Anyone who is doing this here should also sign up at nanowrimo.org. It's an awesome experience!

Bring it ON. Surprised

I love NaNo!

Please count me in, Dee.

This year I'll be attempting a Suspense novel - my first.

Like Hope, I wrote a crucial scene for Cheryl Wyatt's Prompt Contest. I even won with it for that month. And I can't seem to let go of the idea. I find myself plotting it out at odd moments in my day, so I guess this is as good a time as any to see if it'll fly.

So, my goal:  NaNo Novel

Min Daily Word Count: 1833 words

Newbie

Hi, this is my first time posting here and I've got to admit I'm a little apprehensive.  I'm just very interested and very curious about this whole NaNo set up.  Can anyone sign up here and must one be signed up on the official site also?  I'd love to have a go at writing a romance novel but the thought of someone else viewing it unedited fills me with dread.  I'd appreciate any kind of feedback on this.

Thanks,

Aideen.

Aideen

I'm in 4th attempt

at NaNo, but the first time on the eharlequin website. I'll go with the 'build your own Nano' option. This year I'm working on a Romance/Fantasy series revolving around the 9 greek muses. The series is tentatively called Love and Muses, goal is to have 50k written by the end of Nov with 2 RD completed.

Welcome Newbie!

Never fear, no one will see your novel on the Nano site. You only upload it to verify it and there is a process to scramble the whole thing if you want.

I did that last year, but really, the validator is a robot that merely counts and then deletes it after you have uploaded it. Your progress bar should turn from blue to purple. You get a nifty certificate to print out after you've done the word count verification.

Also, you should aim to go over the 50,000 by about 200 words or so, because the word validator varies from your own count. It usually gives you more, but sometimes a little less. And validate early!

Good luck!

ValCool

Valentina, who sees an evil plot around every corner and a dead body in every car trunk.

I'm definitely going to do this.

Novella NaNo

This is my first time doing something like this.I have an idea what I'm going to write. I'm going to use the rest of this month get ready. Wish me luck.Smile

Live, laugh and love as if today were your last!

Just here for me, please

Welcome Aideen. You don't need to sign up at the official NaNo site any more than you need to do it here. They both serve the same purpose and that is providing accountability while cheering on peers doing a similar project.

Some writers need the accountability that NaNo provides when you send in your daily totals. If you sign up for either site with a goal, the rest of us will expect you to report in each night and tell us how you did. For a 55,000 word novel, you need to write about 1833 words for each day of Nov. If you don't hit 1833 one day, you'll have more to do the next to make it up.

Last year, I had some days where my family had to come first and I didn't make my goal. But on other days, I wrote twice as much. I actually finished my novel on Nov 28th by doing it this way. But without NaNo, it takes me 3-4 months to write the same amount.

One of the differences between the 2 sites is that on the official NaNo site, you receive a certificate to say you accomplished your goal. Here, you get a smile from Dee (which is just as good in my opinion). Some writers need the certificate for validation of their hard work. I am one that doesn't so I don't sign up on the other site.

Plus, I'd rather not send in my ms just to prove I completed it if I don't care about the certificate anyway.

this is so great...

Welcome Newbie Aideen (you're not in Ireland are you??!!) - no you don't have to sign up at the offical Nano site (altho that is a lot of fun too). I'm sticking with eHarl because its more intimate and fun and everyone loves romance and I don't want to have to log in at two places...also I like the DIY/flexible nature here - its 'set a goal and go for it' - with lots of supportive others for company :)
