- You could have my tbr07/23/2008 - 22:04
I've given up thinking I'll get mine read anytime soon. Maybe if I didn't buy anymore for, say, 10 years, I'd finish what I have. Heck, I have a couple hundred on the stand next to my bed (doesn't include the dooks in the drawers on it). Doesn't include the 3 (out of five) shelves on the bookcase (the girls have the other 2). Or the 5 boxes in my bedroom, the box in the closet, the case in the living room (the other one on top has other stuff and is covered up, so at least its not noticeable), or the boxes under the bed, the 1 in my closet, the two in the shed, and anything else piled. This would be ok if I read as quick as Sadhbh, but I don't. I read 60-80 a year. I keep telling dh that this is my entertainment for when the girls are finally grown and I don't have to run all over creations with them
He, of course, doesn't think I ever need to buy another book.
Oh, and I have no rhyme or reason with my selections, for the most part. I do try to read certain books when they come out, but that doesn't always happen either.
So, did I scare you yet Merri?

I would have to put Rudy on my happy-cry list. This is an all-time fav of mine and I always tear up when he finally gets a few seconds of glory for all those years of hard work.
I'm sure I'll be back with a few more . . .

This will be tough for me, as I try to avoid movies like this. I mean, if I cry every time I see ET, and I know he doesn't die, how can I watch anything deeper?
With that said, some of my picks are already here: Brian's Song, To Kill a Mockingbird, Steel Magnolias, Ghost, Dead Poet's Society. What I'll add to that list is The Outsiders (I was 12 or 13 when this came out - cried reading it too), Untamed Heart (yep, I was crying in the theaters) and The Sixth Sense. I mean really, he's shot (sad), then hey he must be ok, then BAM - he's a ghost. Hello? And how about the little girl who's mom poisened her? Definitely tears for me.
I'm sure someone will mention movies I forgot about.

Articfrog - I read that book (and many others of hers) during my teenage and early 20's. Even as a teenager, I thought her books were hysterical (and true). I have that book somewhere - - I should go pull it out
Need to update my list. Haven't read much of what I put on the original. Maybe I should make a new one? Very tough. Lots of books and not enough time. I just know someday I'll win the lottery, and this problem will take care of itself!

For me, the top names are:
1. Dr. Suess
2. Peanuts (you didn't say I couldn't include this)
3. Nancy Drew (Carolyn Keene)
4. Agatha Christie
5. Carole Mortimer
6. Nora Roberts
This list is based in order that I started reading them, not what I read the most of (which is probably NR). I remember plowing thru all the ND before moving on to AC. My first few Harl. I read were CM's Presents (which I still have). I also started reading NR early on (1982 or 83).
I'll have to do a more thorough check someday. I started writing down what I read in June of 2003, but that doesn't include the years before. I've kept a lot of books though, so we'll see. Some of my tops there would probably be (not including the above):
1. Miranda Lee
2. Alison Kent
3. Julie Elizabeth Leto
4. Julie Miller
5. Tori Carrington
I also made a list of authors I've done a lot (or all) audios. This is definitive, since I started listening late in 2003.
1. Stuart Woods
2. Janet Evanovich
3. James Patterson/Sue Grafton (tied)
4. Patricia Cornwell/Dorothy Gilman (tied)
Ok, now that I've added waaaaaay more than the original post wanted. Sorry Vince. Its really hard to limit

I picked it up last night, but gave it to my coworker. She'll probably have it back to me by Friday. She's a faster reader than me, which is why she gets it first

I also watch House and Bones, but I had an orientation at the middle school Aurora will be going to next year, so I taped both. Hopefully will get to them by the end of the week, especially since I have last week's Bones to watch too (I did see House, so know what could possibly happen).

We all bow to thee . . .
Barb, I'm with you. I didn't see the belt buckle either. And the tractor and flowers just looked like discolorations. Must be my small screen

Hopefully you receive it.
Lauren - I think I see the same subtle differences you do.
Thanks,

Man, on time would have been great! Or early! But alas, my girls were 12 and 3 days late respectively. Amelia might have been more than 3, but I was induced as they didn't want to take a chance that she'd be as late as her sis and I'd end up w/another long labor w/a c-section. She even weighed less (8lb 1oz - sis was 9lb 7oz). Trust me, I was glad for that!
Angel - Incubators weren't all that new. My mom was in one in '46. She was a 7 month baby - and not a twin. She's pretty sure some of her problems (especially her lousy lung capacity), can be attributed to her birth. Incs have come a loooooong way since then
