- Yay Lauren!!!05/15/2008 - 14:45
So, was it an actual phone call?!? What did they say? Did they tell you right away, or mess with your head a little just to see if you had a heart attack (you know, the ol' those who go into cardiac arrest over the phone need not apply bit).
We need details!!!! (for those of us who must continue to live vicariously through the already published)
Super-duper Congrats!

Way to go! If this ((Lauren)) is a hug, then this ~~~Lauren~~~ is a whole crowd of us, boosting you up on our shoulders and carrying you around and cheering!
Hey, anybody know what it looks like when we buy her a round of drinks?

Am I wrong to guess that part of the difference between Blaze and Spice lies in Blaze being series and Spice mainstream/literary? I like what Dee said about the reader's ability ot identify with the h. As far as I can tell, Blaze h need to be "nice" to start with, you know, to grab strong reader identification, whereas Spice h can be less so. My problem is that my h tend to be divas. Perhaps that says something about me!
But I think I personally prefer an h w/ character flaws, even selfishness (can we forget the h of them all, Scarlett O'Hara, diva divine?!?) which makes her more realistic. Nothing gets on my nerves more than an h who is sooo sickly sweet--augh!
Okay, I'm sure I got way off topic there.
Awaiting correction...

You are the 1st person to wish me a happy mom's day today. Dh kicked me out of the bed to get the kids' breakfast, and of course they're all completely ignorant (you'd think he'd know better, though).

I read recently that Americans do 31 hours worth of stuff every 24 hours. Between multi-tasking, prioritizing, and just-plain-ol' ignoring, we manage to squeeze a lot in!
BTW--I consider not cleaning the bathroom very often to be a major part of my time-management strategy.

...I find that if I've got a general idea, say, something with a nautical scene, or set in the South, or whatever, the more research I do ahead of time, the more ideas I get for possible directions for my story.
BTW--one of my favorite places to research is the children's section of the library. Seriously! A lot of books written for adults have way too much detail. Say I want to do a scene on a train. Of course, I've only been on a train (not counting at the zoo) twice in my whole life, so I need to do research just to get the general vocabulary right. A book aimed at ten-year-olds is going to give that to me with bells on! Perfect! And when I check out a huge stack of train books, I just pretend like they're for my five-year-old (come on, he likes trains, too).
- 05/09/2008 - 21:18Anybody know anything about the confirmation e-mail you're supposed to get when you send one of these e-subs in? I thought I read somewhere there was an auto-reply that confirmed they'd received it, but I've got nothing. Maybe it's just a myth?
- 05/09/2008 - 14:54LOVE the actor/part example. I was just contemplating that irony earlier. So you see, really, there's no difference between me & Nicole Kidman, except that she's had her lips done and I'm way heavier.

...I actually pay for a couple more hours of daycare than I need to cover the hours I work for my part-time job. Hehehe! I'm fortunate in that my dh is cool with this (he can't wait until I hit it big so he can go back to grad school...yeah, like when he's eighty) and we live in a college town where early childhood education majors are willing to work for next to nothing for job experience remotely related to their field. So I have highly qualified people looking after my kids, while I'm sneaking away to write!
Gosh, I almost feel guilty!
