- RE: WOMEN WE ADMIRE04/17/2008 - 21:25
It may sound corny -- or perhaps it's the pat answer from a male of the human pursuasion -- I don't lnow for sure. The Woman I admire most is me Mother. She and Pad married in the Priest's office as they couldn't afford the sanctuary, and the 'wedding dinner" was kool-aid and Grocery store cake -- but yet they were married 53 years! They'd still be married now if me Mum hadn't died. Mum took in other's little ones, laundry, and Ironing to make ends meet -- while Daddy worked on cars and drove a Potato Chip truck. Mum wasn't like mummy's of today, but Mum would wear the same winter coat for three or four seasons, and the same for her shoes so she'd have some dollars to get clothes her kids would look good in at school.
~~ I Love You, Mum ~~
- 04/14/2008 - 17:06I guess it's not strange, but since becoming an avid reader of Harlequin's/Imprints, just about any material on anything has become fair game! Who knows... even "old wives' tales" about a certain locale will help a read become more believeable?

Actually, Alias, I was being a smart arse when I wrote that!!
I am glad that in my part of the world it's Monday. Here, it is St. Patrick's Day. Our family is so Irish that we take this day as Holiday at work (Hee~~Hee
). A few M8's are coming over for Ale. We have decorated with St. Paddy decorations, and plan on exchanging cards. I also plan on saying a prayer or two more to Our Lady for the family's miraculous deliverence from the Troubles in Belfast in the '70's. Today I watched a few historical shows on "the Irish in America," and yesterday I watched one about trouble the Scottish had years ago. The Brits sure do have a legacy of flecking everything up EVERYWHERE they go!
While I'm not a "fan" of Green Beer (American Beers are too weak -- you need more good Irish or German dark Lagers).
It's a gr8 celebration, St. Patrick is a wonderful mediator for us, and the Holy Three is to be praised.
We came with nothing -- we mined coal, sold veggies from a stand, took in washing/ironing, and drove Potato Chip trucks -- but the Lord was good to us -- and we've "made" it.
I'm reading now, "A Chance Worth Taking," by Ms. Carrie Weaver. It's a Harlequin NASCAR and it is WONDERFUL!!

- 03/11/2008 - 15:21Seems like most of us had more fun going alone or with a goup of mates! At my HS here in the US we had dances, but it seems most of us blokes ended up "holdng up the gym walls" and telling tall tales of our (ahem) perceived (to our active imaginations) prowess!
- 03/10/2008 - 17:55It's not as big a thing on NA as it is in the UK. It's actually a fun day that, in many respects, is a LOT like Guy Fawkins/All Hallow's Eve ( in which the American and Canadian versions are quite Irishlike). The girls ask the boys to be their dates at a hootenanny, and sometime during the festivities a Sadie Queen and King of the Dance is chosen from the crowd. The Young People bob for apples, go on scavenger hunts, play pin-the-tail, etc., it's fun really. When I was 15 in 1977 we visited some kin in Dublin, where I was asked to a local Sadie Hawkins ~~ imagine my joy when I was a runner up for Sadie King!
- 02/28/2008 - 23:11A short while back, to promote her latest book "House of Cards", C.E. sponsored a contest in which anyone interested in receiving a free AUTOGRAPHED by C.E. copy of the book, he/she needed to write a short blog either on C.E.'s blogspot or the eHarlequin.com site stating why you think you should be the winner. Then, C.E. took all the responses received and picked out the winners! I was the winner from the eHarlequin.com website! Afterward, C.E. stated a reason to the effect that "men deviating from the norm and reading" was a huge reason why I won.

I received me FREE copy of House of Cards AUTOGRAPHED personally by C.E. in the post yesterday. She had areoposted it to me from her home in Eire. She included a nice card in it just for me and a picture of a nice Irish church she took. I'll let you all know how the book goes. It sounds astounding!
- 02/25/2008 - 17:23They sound GOOD, Lori ~~and actually something I could make!!!

Thanks for the comments, everone! She is a good hygenist and I DO only see her a couple times a year, so there's not really any harm done.
Val HAS married, but for some reason, I keep forgetting that fact when I see Daryl. I mean, eventually he'll know, but until then, what's the point?
The Bloke can't be broken-hearted all the time, can he?
