And Wayne, if you're going to Australia you have to hop the ditch (the Tasman Sea a flight of around 3 hours) to New Zealand as well!

Christa! I really hope that J&AJP delivered on all your expectations for the series. It was a heck of a roller coaster ride, as Maxine said Laughing.

The anticipation has been building for so long. Seriously, it feels like this continuity has always been a part of my life. In so many ways it is sad to see the end of it all, but as Maxine said...never say never! Smile

Actually went to your blog to find the link in the end. Still have some trouble finding things on these new boards. Silly me.

Thanks for the heads up, Maureen. I'm off now to search for where to find it...I'm allowed displacement activity for now. Have just emailed off my latest ms. Phew!

Natasha! Warmest congratulations on your latest success.

Annie, yes, have just emailed the book away. Now it's time for the ritual desk clearing, 6-monthly GST return (erk!) and thinking about outlines for my online read and my next contracted book. All the best with your deadline too. I'd feel relieved I made it on time if I wasn't (as always) beset with worry that my editor may not like this one. Any of the rest of you feel the same? It's a crazy life, but I love it.

Ooooh errrr! A full request no less. Wow, that deserves extra congrats! I obviously misread Embarassed

I'll be posting your book away to you in the next week, just need to deliver my current ms to my editor for Monday in NY! Smile (which, thank goodness, is late Monday night/early Tuesday here in New Zealand!)

    Cheers!

First of all, congratulations on the personalised response. That's a big plus.

Disclaimer: Steps 2 and 3 come from the pov of someone who never sold to London but did very happily sell to New York Laughing

Second, editors are really busy people but they're always looking for new voices to buy for the line.  They don't give feedback when they're really not interested. Seriously.

Third, said editors are looking for writers who are prepared to grow and create a career, aka more than one book.

Yes, it is hard to let go of the book that you love right now, but clearly you show promise for the line or you wouldn't have had personalised feedback. That said, there's no reason why further down the track, with the hindsight of experience, you can't revisit your initial story and rework it (sometimes extensively and I'm speaking from personal experience Wink) to sell that previously rejected ms to your editor.

Right now, Mulberry, I'd bask in the pleasure of that feedback and get to thinking about what's next.

    Good luck! Laughing

Diana, a commenter on my blog asked this question:

"Hi Diana I wanted to find out, do you have to do added research as well on the books you edit to “get a feel of them” or do you rely on the author research work done already."

I'm not sure if she's logged into the discussion here or not but thought I'd pose the question on her behalf.
