Did you know that if you're not logged in to the site, but you're reading on it, you don't see the most recent stuff? I sometimes want to look at the site in a public place (ie the library) without logging in, but I see older posts.  It seems like it's about 4 hours behind, at least! Has anyone else noticed that? For example, when I'm logged out right now, the latest blog post I see is "That YA Feel", and the Nicola in Times Square blog has 6 comments.  When I'm logged in, the latest blog post is "Wrong, wrong, wrong" and the Nicola post has 8 comments!

    How come?

Oh, and Dee...thanks for the info! :-) You're the best!!

I think that'd make a great thread! I know one of my biggest weaknesses is passive writing, so I'd love some tips!

I like what you're saying about the speech having to be true to the character's, well, character!

My strength (I think!....only an editor will tell me if I'm off base, or on target!) is in writing realistic speech -- not overly formal. I try to write the dialogue the way I'd speak it.  Personally, I don't know too many people who'd say "I cannot understand why you would not do what I have asked of you."  (Stupid sentence, but....) If I were to put it in a contemporary story, I'd say "I can't understand why you won't do what I've asked of you." or make it even shorter.  Just my opinion, though.

My biggest dialogue weakness is remembering that I shouldn't use names too often, since we rarely use them in speech.  I know conversation flows better without proper names in a sentence, but I find that I'm always having to edit my work for that! <thunk!>

And Nancy, LOL! I almost spewed my drink all over my keyboard!

Writer2be, thank you! I'm blushing, really! I still feel like I have so much work to do on my writing, so your sweet comment will help keep me going!

Vince, thank you, too.  I really enjoy first person and would love to do more of it.  I love how sarcastic I can be in first POV...it fits my personality to a T. Tongue out And I hope what you said comes true and I actually HAVE a first book! (Well, I *have* one, but it's not sharable with ANYONE. It's horrible, head hopping, too wordy, and looks like it was written by someone who had no experience writing. Which, hey, was me at the time!!!  Imagine that.   It'll live forever under my bed!! Tongue out )  Anyway.... I mean a REAL first book.

I really enjoyed all the challenge pieces. There are a lot of incredibly creative people around here!!

If you've submitted a manuscript and have heard nothing in three months, I understand it's acceptable to send a politely worded inquiry about that manscript. What's the next step after that if you still don't hear back? And how long do you wait to hear back?

(Or should I just grow some patience??)

(Or are you not the right person to ask????)

     Thanks!

Tiger Toes, I *love* yours! That should be a full novel.

I like writing FP, but I always feel like it'd be hard to sustain for an entire novel. I know plenty of people do, and quite successfully (Janet Evanovich, for one!). I just don't know if *I* could!
