Donna, I'm glad you enjoyed the first book in the Sweet series. Are you moving right onto the second one?
Cathie, congrats on selling some books. Who else was at the author faire? Sounds like a grand time. I've not read Comfort Food, but have read her other book Friday Night Knitting Club. I have Comfort Food loaded on my Kindle...so someday!
Donna, I saw I got my answer! You're really on a reading roll. How is the pet sitting going?
This last weekend I had the chance to lunch with a bunch of bookreading friends. As always it was really nice to see everyone. I even got to sit between Evelyn Vaughn and Deb! I picked both of their brains for various things, and really learned a lot!
I also met with the committee planning the first annual Readers'n'Ritas conference to be held in Richardson Texas. It's not too late if you're in the area to sign up, and if you want to email me privately I can give you a discount code!
I was attempting to read a book called For Her Eyes Only by Cait London. I wasn't making much progress but those who know me know I always follow through. I really gave this a valiant effort and finally decided I just couldn't finish it. I'm setting this aside and going to start Lucky Charm by Carly Phillips. I hope I like this one!
If you want to know why I couldn't finish the London you can email me.

Cady, I think that you and Mike have made a fair compromise with Maggie. I'm sure she doesnt' think so, but she's 5 and that's her job to not agree with her parents!
Tiffany, sorry to hear that mom has been sick, but glad she's doing better. Hopefully you have a great unwinding type of read in your stash.
Trudy, are you a big baseball fan? I personally don't like it, but grew up with baseball fan parents, and have raised a fanatic for a son.
Margie, I was really lucky and scored an ARC of the newest In Death book. I'm not yet reading it much to several people's surprise! I'm trying to be good and do some of my previous review commitments first!
I can't remember if I told you all, but I finished THe Letters by Luanne Rice and Joseph Monninger. Then I read The Man From Tuscany by Catherine Spencer. I know that was my first read by her,and as it ended I had tears in my eyes. I highly recommend it. It's a SuperRoamnce with the Everlasting Love flag.
Now I'm going to read For Her Eyes Only the last book in a trilogy by Cait London.
Unfortuantely this week Brian had a car accident. Fortunately for us the Santa Fe wasn't damaged at all. I'm hoping that the insurance company has forwarded my phone number to the person he hit and they have minimal damage as well, so I can pay it out of my pocket. I really don't want an accident on his record so soon, or another accident on file at all!
Hopefully everyone has had a great week? Who has plans for the weekend? A bunch of us who met here are having lunch on Saturday. I can't wait. Then I think I'm helping some friends with a hospitatlity room on Saturday night, but that hasn't been confirmed.

Janet, congrats on the granddaughter, and I'm so glad you came back to tell us about the surgery. Hope the results are good when you get them. Tell your daughter we'll needs lots and lots of pictures!
Mary, I'm glad the Phillies won. Last year they were making a run and it was the weekend we were in Phillie and I think they beat themselves and knocked themselves out. Lauren is so lucky to have a grandma who sews! Hope you like the end of The Angel.
Amanda, I didn't even notice. I think that when I wrote Saturday it just automatically filled in the last Saturday Date I used. I'm not really ready for next summer as we've not really cooled down yet!
I finished reading The Letters by Luanne Rice and Joseph Monninger. I also started reading The Man From Tuscany by Catherine Spencer. It's a Super Romance with the Everlasting Love flag.

Bookbuff welcome to our little corner of the internet world. Come back often!
Cady, Maggie and Luke are so lucky that you have a job that is flexible enough to allow you to chaperone their field trips. Hope you have a good time. I would hesitate to say I’m doing a lot of work on the Readers and Ritas conference, but come conference day I might have more to do. I’m going to be manning the registration desk, and I offered to moderate a session or two. I can’t believe I thought I could handle doing a session!
Cathie, sorry to hear your little kittie I can’t imagine having to give my pet shots. Our dog has a bad hip and spine and has to have meds daily for that. The first time my husband tired to give it to her she spit it out. He had a bite of hot dog in his hand. He told her if you want this hot dog you’ll eat that pill. Can you believe she did? The next day it was a repeat of day one….her spitting the pill out and him saying if you want the hot dog you will eat the pill, and she did. I’m like you really think this dog understands? Unbelievably the third day he puts the pills on the bed, shows her the hot dog, and she wolfs the pills down. This has now been their routine for the last three years!
Yesterday I finished Sweet Trouble by Susan Mallery. I’m glad that the series is behind me. I think this is one series which people either love or hate. I’m still debating my exact feelings on the books, but I know they’re not my favorites by Mallery.
After the Readers and Ritas meeting I went to a friend’s house and she had a few books she needed to give me for review. Luckily for me one of them was The Letters by Luanne Rice and Josph Monninger. I’m reading that now, but haven’t read much yet.
Today I took Brian to bowling…he didn’t want to drive himself. He bowled a 203, and then a 213. So I told him he needed to bowl a 223. He didn’t listen to me. He ended up bowling a 232, so shot 648!
Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Sorry to be a bit delayed in welcoming Ruth B to our little corner of the world. Hope you come back and visit us often! We love new members!
Deb, hope you get the chance to make a difference in this little girl's life. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who didn't really like The Hollow. It's been a bit since I listened, and I don't remember what I didn't like, but I do remember it just didn't grab me like Blood Brothers.
Donna, I'm a huge Dancing fan. How did you feel about the people who have gone home? I think Cloris is going to last longer than she should because she's so outrageous.
Mary, I read The Widow by Carla Neggers. It's been a while. If I remember correctly that was a real up and down book for me. I would get to reading fast, and then lose interest, and then gain interest again. Let us know what you thought.
Deb, where are you working this Saturday? Is that at the rec center? What about the Dallas school mess? I feel for people who work there!
Cady, I had no idea that The Angel followed The Widow. Look what you did...just added a book to my wishlist! I didn't need any help with that! Why does she want to quit dance? Is there a different class she could take, or a different school? I hope she finds something to interest her. I'm a big believer in kids needing to be involved, but only if they truly like what they're involved in.
Donna, I know I have a copy of that Blaze book by Warren somewhere! I love her style. Glad it was enjoyable. Enjoy the day having lunch and window shopping. I'm going to meet friends for lunch too! I'm leaving work early to do it, but I've worked a lot of extra hours this week, and I deserve it!
Melinda, I can't believe Aisling is old enough for puberty! It's also funny that I should be reading this now because on the way in today Mike said do you know the shoes you bought Brian are 9 1/2? I said yes, that's the size he wears. He said how did he get to be as big as me? I said you're just mad because Richard also wears that size, and I tend to buy you two pairs of shoes at a time, so when you go for the extra pair they're not there because someone has taken them as they need new shoes too! I'm sorry to hear about your Grandmother. It was nice that you had a good visit.
Margie, Eileen Dryer writes under the name Kathleen Korbel. She has a series for Nocturne under the Korbel name. I bought a Dryer book for my Kindle, but I don't think I've even downloaded it yet! Need to take care of that little task!
Like I said I'm going to lunch with friends today! I can't wait! Then we'll work some more on the readers conference that is coming up fast! Heres' a link that I hope works if you want to check us out. If you're in the DFW area I hope you come and we can meet if we haven't! http://readers-n-ritas.org/

Mary, when Richard was a baby he would babble in his carseat with those inflections, and pauses. Mike and I often wondered what he was saying, and who he thought he was truly talking to! Have you finished Death Angel? Did you find it a bit hard to swallow?
Cady, give Mike birthday wishes from us. Did you get him a gift? Are you sleeping better? Did you like The Hollow? I listened to Blood Brothers on audio, and then to The HOllow on audio as well. I just didn't care for it as much as I did Blood Brothers. I will do The Pagan Stone an audio too.
Deb, congrats to the PTA making more than they had hoped. That's always great! I'm so glad to hear Brayden is doing better. I know his mom got laid off sometime this summer, so that's probably why he's not going to day care, and might be a reason he's maturing...more time with mom.
Janet we'll be thinking of you. Hopefully you'll be up and about soon and can come tell us how well you're healing.
I finished Letters To A Secret Lover by Toni Blake. I really liked it. I wouldn't call it suspense, but I knew something was coming, and when it came it hit big! I wasn't quite expecting that complete twist. Now I'm reading the last book in the Sweet Series. Sweet Trouble.
Hope everyone had a nice weekend, and a good week. The best part of our weekend? Richard got a job! It's probably only temporary, but at this point a job is a job!
- 09/19/2008 - 08:23
Cady, I don't like that we can't see the posts either. I use Notepad and make my notes and then copy and paste my comments. I did that on the old system too...seems easier to me. I think I'm tired just reading about your week! I'm glad Maggie likes the dentist. Has Luke been to the dentist yet?
Deb, thanks for the info on The Keepsake. Now I've got to decide do I want a print version or an audio version? Decisions decisions decisions. I don't know the title of the nocturne...but it was written by Katherine Korbel and was the third in her series. Hope you have fun at the school picnic. Bradyen doesn't come here anymore, so if you see him tell him I said hello.
Book club is always fun! The author is also known as Eileen Dryer, and she has a bunch of suspense books I had no clue about! Learn something new every day. She had to interupt our conversation because of some issues at her home, but she called back and we got to finish the chat.
I'm reading Letters To A Secret Lover by Toni Blake. I really like the book, but have been not feeling the best and I chalk that up to the insomonia. Yesterday June let me go home early, so I didn't argue and I went home, and straight to bed! Feeling more like me now. I'm also listening to Charley's Web by Joy Fielding. I'm really enjoying that.
Hope everyone has a great weekend. Anyone have special plans?

Elaine, it's always good to see you pop in. Have you been reading some good stuff?
Mary, Glad you all enjoyed Picoult. What book did you get signed? I'm glad to know that your daughter was also a little less enthused about The Wednesday Letters. At the signing he talked about how people were telling him how effected they were and wanting to get back to old fashioned letter writing, and the book just didn't have that effect on me. I was a bit worried I was just not emotiona. Nice to know it might not be so! Mary are you planning a big 1st birthday party for Lauren? Is she walking? Can't believe it's a year already!
Deb, Mike and I were talking about it on the way in today. I was surprised to hear a Katrina victim say she thought the devastation in Texas was almost worse. That just really scared me. I'll continue to keep your children in my thoughts and prayers. How is the Keepsake? Is it connected to another of her stories?
Margie, hope things settle soon. Glad you're finding some good things to read.
Yesterday I finished reading Sweet Spot by Susan Mallery. Then I had bought a copy of a book called The Shiniest Jewel by Marian Henley. It's a short graphic memoir of the author's journey of adopting from Russia. It was really easy to read and so I managed to read the whole thing in about a hour or so! Then I started Letters To A Secret Lover by Toni Blake.
This morning I finished listening to Blue Christmas by Mary Kay Andrews. This was the third in a series, and while it was short it was quite enjoyable. Not sure what I'll listen to next.
Hope everyone has a happy hump day. Tonight is book club! I can't remember who the author is, but she writes for Nocturne.

Nada, it's always good to hear from you. I do think the midwest got hit a lot harder than the area of Dallas that I live in did from Ike. My mom said she was experiencing flooding. I have to agree with you about football. While I wish Brian had stayed in band it does mean I no longer have to attend the games! As for his job...he did get it, and is so far enjoying it. I hope that lasts! Now if Richard got a job life would be near perfect! Glad to hear that Harry is doing so well...for that matter Al too.
Lisa, sounds like your settling into your new home really well. I'm glad that things are working for you. My mom loves the water aerobics as well, maybe I need to look into that.
Cathie congrats on being a best romance! I have to say I agree, but then that's just my 2 cents worth!
I finished Sweet Spot by Susan Mallery. Last night I went to a booksigning, and I bought a copy of the book for a friend, but didn't buy one for me. I figured I could read hers! It's a graphic memoir, and not very long at that. It's called The Shiniest Jewel by Marian Henley. I was right..it didn't take long to read at all, and I've already finished it! Now I'm reading Letters To A Secret Lover by Toni Blake because it got a lot of talk at several of my yahoo groups, and so it peaked my interest.
Hope everyone had a great day!

Cady, did Mike get to golf? I was somewhat worried about the rain we were supposed to get from Ike, but for us it really turned into a non-event. Mike was watching the radar almost all day, and he was like according to the radar we're getting pounded, and it wasn't even raining My mom called and said her underground parking was flooded. I hope you're ok.
Janet, I'm sorry that your daughter isn't speaking to you, but you really need to concentrate on you. We'll be thinking good thoughts and prayers for you through the surgery and recory. Sounds as though you have a good attitude considering everything, and that the prognosis is good. Come back and report to us, or give someone instructions how they can let us know how you're doing.
Deb, sorry about your daughter's house flooding, but sounds like she was fairly lucky. Does she have flood insurance? Does your son? I hear they've been restoring some power. I didn't hear a lot about deaths or injuries, so hopefully that won't change.
Donna good luck with the unpacking. I really don't look forward to ever moving! Hope you can find something else to dejunk. Can you move the towel rack?
I really indulged myself in reading this weekend. I finsihed Broken Pieces by Carla Cassidy. I never figure out the bad guy...is that because I'm so dumb, or because the writing is so good. Guess which option I pick! Then I read Sweet Talk by Susan Mallery, the first in the Bakery Sisters trilogy. It was ok...but I think I like the Buchannan series better. Then on Sunday I read The Wednesday Letters by Jason F. Wright. Not sure what I was expecting, but it wasn't quite as good as I was hoping, not bad, and did have an emotional impact...but not like The Christmas Jar. Then I started Sweet Spot the second Susan Mallery book. I read about 5 chapters before I decided to head to bed.
Hope everyone else had a great weekend. Anyone do anything special beside hide away from Ike?
