- More Medusa books!07/17/2008 - 13:21
Hiya Tiger!
Cindy Dees here to answer your question. Thanks for asking, and yes, there will definitely be MORE Medusa books! I've already turned in the completed manuscript for Kat's story, in fact. She's the last of the original Medusas, and for those of you who are fans of the new H.O.T. Watch series, she's going to the Caribbean to work with the H.O.T. Watch gang in this book.
I don't know when the book is slotted for publication or what its final title will be yet...but I've been told it will come out sometime in 2009. My working title for it was Medusa's Arrow, but the marketing guru's often come up with better titles for my work than I do, so don't hold me to that title.
As for more Medusa books after that? Funny you should ask. I'm working as we speak on the proposal for a book that introduces the next set of Medusa trainees. Since no one editorial has seen or approved it yet, I probably shouldn't say much about these ladies. Suffice it to say that in some ways they're very different than the original Medusas, but in the most important ways--being smart and funny and resourceful and courageous--they're exactly the same! And they always get their man, of course.
Will look forward to hearing what you think of my latest Medusa story when it hits the bookshelves. I can tell you I had a blast writing Kat's story. Here's hoping you have a blast reading it!
Until then, happy reading!

Oh my gosh, Sadhbh,
Barnes & Noble needs to erect a statue to you in their corporate headquarters. That's awesome...man, and I thought I read a lot before I started writing. I doubt I ever topped 300 books in a year.
Of course, nowadays, I'm embarassed to admit how little I read. But if I have a choice between writing on my own books or reading someone else's, the deadline usually wins. I do still love to read, though.
Today, I'm editing the third H.O.T. Watch book, which also happens to be a Medusa book. I decided there wasn't enough action in the story and I'm going back and putting more in. Just wouldn't be a good Medusa story without a few good chase scenes...maybe this book needs an explosion, too...hmm....
Well, you get back to your reading, Sadhbh...wouldn't want to slow you down, here. Later today when I need a break from working, I'll tell you how the bat cave came to be in the H.O.T. Watch.
Catchya then!

Faster? Ugh...I've written four books in eight months, I have a book due this week, another one June 1st, and another one after that on Aug 15th. And you want 'em faster?! I'm not the Bionic Woman, Sadhbh...
But for you...I'll try. How's that for a deal?

Howdy again Sadhbh,
Hah. Now there's a challenge...spell your name correctly twice in a row...sheesh!
Back to your question. I just so happen to have pitched a Charlie Squad book recently to my editor and there may be more of the guys in the not-too distant future. Of course, I'll still have to put together a proposal and sell the book, but my editor was definitely interested in hearing more about the story. Am psyched at that possibility!
Okay, now really back to work...

Howdy Sadhbh!
The next H.O.T. Watch book was delivered at the end of February and is awaiting a slot date.
The 3rd H.O.T. Watch book also happens to be a Medusa book...and tells Kat's story at long last. It's due in New York this week and is a matter of a few scenes from done. It also awaits a slot date for publication.
Just so we're all clear, here, my August book is neither a H.O.T. Watch book nor a Medusa story. It's part of a really fun three-book continuity I did with Nina Bruhns and Sheri Whitefeather that the three of us dubbed the "Sex on the Beach" Trilogy. It's set in Fiji and involves a serial killer with a thing for pairs of lovers on beaches, lots of tropical sun, sand and surf, and three amazing couples.
I hasten make that distinction, because I got a scathing review recently from someone who's read a few of my military books and then got reader whiplash when she read THE LOST PRINCE...which isn't the slightest bit military. Sigh. So hard to balance what readers expect and what I enjoy writing sometimes...
Let the record show I'm yet to feel at all trapped in the military stories I've done. Actually, making sure I stay that way was part of the impetus for starting the H.O.T. Watch series. Pretty much anything goes with the group I've set up. There are both men and women, military members and civilians, and they have the whole of the Caribbean and South America to play with for stories. If I can't stay entertained in that world for a while, something's very wrong with me!
I was looking to do something open-ended with lots of room for a variety of fun stories, and voila! The H.O.T. Watch was born!
Tomorrow, I'll tell y'all how the bat cave came into existence....
And now, it's time for me to head back to Kat and Jeff's story and the big finale...<cue the scary ending music...>
See you guys tomorrow!

Hey, I just wanted to be the first to say welcome, and I'm looking forward to hearing from y'all about my new series. Am looking forward to answering your questions and giving you some of the inside scoop on the background for the series and sneak previews of where it's heading.
So...on with the show!

Howdy gang,
Just to confuse matters, my August release has nothing to do with the H.O.T. Watch or the Medusa's. It's part of a three-book summer series...
Nina Bruhns did the first book: KILLER TEMPTATION.
Sheri Whitefeather did the 2nd: KILLER PASSION
And I did the 3rd: KILLER AFFAIR.
The books are linked and feature a serial killer operating on the beaches of the South Pacific. They're very sexy and a ton of fun. Good beach reads. But then, I suppose I'm a little biased about them.
Y'all will have to let me know what you think of them. But in the mean time, I have a ton of writing to do, and I'd better get to it. Kat's book isn't going to finish itself!
Y'all have a good one!

Howdy gang,
Speaking of great covers, I got yet more good news yesterday. My last Bombshell, THE MEDUSA PROPHECY, has been named a finalist in the Cover Cafe Cover contest for 2008 in the Series category.
A committee looks at hundreds of covers for each category and narrows them down to a final 10 for each category. Then the public can go to their website www.covercafe.com and vote for their favorites.
I'd like to send out a huge thanks to Bill Laughton, the cover artist who did THE MEDUSA PROPHECY's magnificent cover.
Cover artists almost always work in anonymity, and yet their work is some of the most widely viewed art anywhere. Am SO glad that Bill's talent is being recognized in this way.
Now if only I could figure out how to get him to do all my covers!
Have a great day everyone!
Best,Cindy

Hiya Tina!
If the link April sent you doesn't work, e-mail me at cindy@cindydees.com and I'll see to it you get the final three chapters. It would be cruel and unusual punishment for you to get so deep into a suspense read and then never let you know how it finished! Even I'm not THAT sadistic.
Best,
Cindy

Howdy gang,
Thanks SO much for making my first online read experience such a blast. Y'all rock! Sorry I dropped out of sight for a few days. Was in New York at the NINC conference finding out all about what cool new stuff is going on in the industry.
You all made it so much fun by sharing your guesses and comments and speculation and feedback. The inter activity with readers was too cool.
And to answer your question Deb, this is the prequel to the H.O.T. Watch series which launches in April. Y'all come on over to the SRS forum and let me know what you think of it now, ya heah' ?
Thanks again!
<waving>
Cindy
