The flooding happens only on this section of the highway by-pass. For instance, at our hous, 2 minutes away, the street were clear. The brilliant engineers who designed the road didn't check their history.  The spot has been a drainage area for the surrounding towns since the Middle Ages.  Something about a layer of calcar/calcium covered by a layer of clay.  The rain filters through the clay, hits the calcium and follows this layer to the highway dip. It now is a catchment basin with pumps.  BUT when there is a lot of rain in a short time period, the pumps get overloaded and them burn out. Ipso facto! Flooded highway.

Some women apparently do, Papaya.  I'm with you, though.  I may want to get carried away, but I have to make a conscience choice to do so.

My DH got home from work at 10pm last night.  He left work at 5:45 pm.  There was a traffic jam due to flooding on the highway, and the usual 20 minute trip took him 4 hours!! Good thing it was him and not me.  They would have found me drooling and rolling on the ground.

DReam, even Disney has movies that have bad endings.  Remember Bambi.  His mother died!  I couldn't watch the rest.

Arlene, your comments explain but don't excuse the grandmother and parents. When you know someone is horrendously shy and is being controlled, you don't abandon her if you love her. And the grandmother needs to have her hand slapped gently. Davis might be the one to do so in this story, but Becca's parents should have done something before this. True, Becca does have some responsibility for her situation since people can't walk on you if you don't lie down and let them, but her parents have the primary duty to the grandmother. Becca is helping them out, helping Gramma out and getting taken advantage of in the process. Just because it is normal, doesn't make it right.

My fingers are doing fine. Thanks for asking, CF. I'm been working hard, here and at the University. Not as long as Papaya though. Yikes. My brain is mush after 6 hours of teaching. I don't think I could do 12 hour days.
