- Wow, you guys are amazing!06/25/2008 - 16:41
This is the busiest section iof the entire forum! As a newbie here I'm finding it hard to keep up.
I just rediscovered Superromances- and I feel like I've come home. The Presents Instant Seduction competition in February reactivated my old old dream of writing romance, but I am sooooo not a Presents writer- my style really doesn't fit. My heroes are ordinary guys, but just that little bit more heroic than the guys I meet, my heroines have families and friends and other things going on as well as their developing relationship.
As soon as my current 60 or 70 hour a week day job hell is over, I will be diving back into writing as much as I possibly can!
- 06/23/2008 - 16:43Woo hoo- looking forward to this book, Liz! I bet it will be an absolute delight to read!

Two submissions since the Presents comp- I'm impressed.
My compliments slip is still languishing waiting for me to finsih something. new. Started four new stories, and once the current day job hell is done with I will get goiing seriously on one of them, but I think my heart is still with finsihing the comp entry....

Great article, Donna! I am so glad you published the link, as I went looking for the article direct on the site a couple of weeks ago and couldn't find it. I know right now that the truth of who I am is "writer". That is the thing that is most important to me. Unfortunately the day job is getting seriously in the way at the moment doing 60+ hour weeks trying to finish a huge project against a near impossible deadline. So no writing at all, but excellent training for those big revisions with a quick turnaround time. I hope things get sorted out for you PDQ in the new house!
Fiona, I loved your third book! But I hate Marmite, yuk, disgusting stuff. I'm definitely a happy little Vegemite instead, despite my husband's best efforts to covert me to these strange English customs. It's interesting what you say about the journey being one of the character becoming more in alignment with their essence, as that idea has been resonating with me in my own life lately. Writing can be surprisingly so tough physically, can't it.
Hi Janet, how's your story going?
Michelle, you are most definitely not a fake!
Hi Liz, Trish, and Mary Jane. Hoping for no more pineapples or heavy duty revisions for anyone!

I'm generally afraid of coming across like a Brady Bunch member from the movie, lol. Totally clueless about my out of syncness. It happens. A LOT. LOL!
Hey Dee, you could be talking about me, especially the "totally clueless" bit. I just hope I come across more like a red setter dog- you know, big, stupid, insanely bouncy and enthusiastic but still likeable- and not like a completely socailly inept dork!

Good luck and fingers crossed for everyone who enters!
Thanks for your suggestions Rae, I think the main prob for me at the moment is that struggling with this work project has fried my brain so much that it's also taken over the creative part of me. I woke up early this morning and lay awake working out possible solutions to problems- but on my work writing project (designing a software user manual and self-study guide, and putting together two weeks worth of training sesssions), not my story. And it's a Sunday, for crying out loud!
I'm going easy on myself, trying to write a little on my WIP every day but not putting too much word count pressure on, and trying to de-stress by grabbing some reading time and catching up with how some of the fab Harlequin writers in different lines have handled similar situations to my hero and heroine.
I will be sooooo pleased when this big project is done and I can have my mind back!

What a fab metaphor, Michelle! Sweet rich creaminess plus a slow spicy burn....
Hmm, I'll have what she's having!

Unfortunately it bites darned hard sometimes! I will be working 60 hours a week all June, plus a three hour a day commute. I'm working on a story that could be a fab Desire, but I can see more than 25,000 words being done by the time of the pitch. Miracles might happen, but I doubt it! I have two other complete first drafts, and I could edit up one this month, but they just don't feel "Desire" enough to pitch.
Good luck in the contest to everyone who has a less horrendous June coming up!
- 06/10/2008 - 17:14LOL guys! I am buying up copies of all these books! Can't wait until your "hot chocolate" comes out next year, Melissa!
- 06/10/2008 - 16:50I hope you got him to take a photo for you!
