Well, there's a bit of psychological something, Susan...I completely forgot that phrase. Maybe it was metaphorical. Better be! ;)

    And to you, Chelle. :)

Yes, Susan, some things might have been revealed last night, but ALL was a bit of an exaggeration ;) ...they're still using the ad for next week, though, so maybe they only meant all will be revealed eventually. I don't have a clue what's going on, but I'm intrigued. I'm afraid it's all going to be a big disaster, though. With weeping viewers. Do you get that feeling?

That's a relief, about the financing, Kim. Fingers crossed.

Christyne, I think someone from NZ was posting many of the same days you were back when I was lost in a deadline and moving preparations--I just got mixed up, I guess.

Did I miss reading a page? After I posted there were about 10 messages I didn't see before. Amy, I'm glad you survived (especially when you haven't been feeling well) and Kim I'm so sorry about the money woes.

Susan, you've got my curiosity now about SG Atlantis even though I've only seen a few episodes.

And Christyne, why did I think you were from New Zealand?

I'll admit I've never watched Supernatural. Obviously should have! Too caught up with Battlestar Galactica, I guess. Tonight is pivotal for that show, too, according to Space:

    ALL

    WILL BE

    REVEALED!

Very successful ad for them, I've been thinking about it all week.

Another sf show I really like is the somewhat quirky Eureka. Anyone else watch that?

Ow, Kay....you're brave to request the scores. I'd rather not know. The wide range only goes to show how subjective the process is. Ronda's got several good ideas, all involving the '0' that's obviously meant to stand beside the '1'. Hearing Ami's experience makes me wonder if these contests should be like figure skating: throw out the highest and lowest scores (or maybe just the lowest ;) ) Thanks for the welcome back.

And thank you, too, Chelle. I'm so glad you like the title. :) That was Megan's idea. I was so pleased when they told me. Very scary to see you almost in real time, hearing the tornado warning and then describing what you saw when you went outside! Thank goodness you're all right.

I'm glad to be back, Ellen. Are you saying your cousin had triplets??? I can't begin to think how to cope with three newborns. I hope your sister is feeling better now. Wtg on the colourful yard. Sounds like my whole town. City council (sp?) decided not to use pesticides anymore and they always seem to mow when the dandelions have gone to seed....

Sorry about your bug, Amy. The scrapbook's such a good idea. Time-consuming, for sure, though. It'll be beautiful, and so appreciated, when it's eventually done.

Vieve, I'm glad you popped back in. No, there was no sign of a forest fire at Paint Lake now, but last fall they had an ice storm that broke off the tops of lots of trees.

Holly, the lodge owner told us the name Paint Lake came about because the setting sun casts paint-like colours on the evergreens on the shore. The lake just south of it is called Setting Lake and north of town there's a Mystery Lake....somebody up there must have been a poet! I don't know if anyone here has heard of the Group of Seven...they were Canadian artists who wanted to reflect what they saw of the country, rather than following European traditions--everywhere we went in the countryside around Thompson, we thought of their paintings.

I wonder how Carrie's doing today, with jury duty? Not as many trials here involve juries, but it sounds as if most Americans have been called at one time or another--has everyone here had that experience?

Jeannie, where are you with your next book?

Hi, Carrie and Ronda. (waving back)

Ellen, I liked what you said about letting your characters be characters... Susan and Victoria, very helpful comments.

Hi, Sally. Good to see you, too. The conflict issue seems to come up more than any other when writers are talking...love your bleach/ammonia method!

Hi Rita...Do you usually get the new Supers this early in the month? Here, I've seen them around the 9th or the 15th, depending on the store. I've been waiting for Ellen's book, too. The hero got my attention as soon as she mentioned him months ago.

Jeannie, thanks, that's a really nice thing to say. And I of you. :) The last read-through for Her Favorite Husband happened last week, while dh and I were on holiday. Before that, line edits arrived soon after we got to Thompson, while we were staying in a log cabin at Paint Lake. Before that, revisions happened while we were preparing for the trip north. It's the first time I wasn't able to arrange my schedule to accomodate the stages of a book. Keeping in touch with Victoria wasn't always easy, either--at the cabin I had to bundle up to walk in minus thirty temperatures and then climb a snow bank to reach an outdoor pay phone. The contrast of shivering on the snow bank talking to Victoria or Megan, sounding so beautifully editor-ish in Toronto, always made me smile. (It could have been a lot easier--the lodge near the cabins had high speed wireless. I just didn't have a computer.)

Now I keep thinking about heroines in log cabins...will need to do some of that mulling Susan mentioned.

    Hi everybody,

It's good to be back and trying, at least, to catch up on everyone's news. We were in Thompson (that's a mining town north of 55; I was so excited to see the latitude sign) for a couple of months--the library computers were a twenty minute walk from our apartment, a great cure for Internet addiction!--I read the thread at times, but couldn't post. Vieve, the first day there we saw a dogsled race, and I thought of you.

Jeannie, what a wonderful award--enjoy your evening. Sam, a Rita nomination! Congratulations. Kim...what's the RS green light? I can't think of what the abbreviation means... Tasha and Sally, I'm sorry there were R's in your life, but best of luck with your next stories.

I'm not nearly caught up with everything, but wanted to say hello.

    Hi Lorie, and all

In January I joined the Challenge, then promptly disappeared--first because of a revision deadline and then because I moved to Thompson, Manitoba (north of 55, I was so excited!) for two months and didn't have a computer with me. I did read a bit and jot down notes for reviews, though, and over the next couple of days will finally start adding to the tally. Sorry for the delay!

Hi back to you, Ronda and Sam. :)

Vieve, my brother called and then I didn't go out. And it's supposed to get warmer this afternoon, so maybe the experiment will have to wait until next year...I'm almost looking forward to it.

I'll be away from my computer for a while (as in weeks) and might not be able to check in. So bye for now and see you all when I can.

    can be helpful, but aren't necessary--they're one of those things that are up to the individual. Might help, might not. And certainly lots of people sell without ever entering one. Not much of an answer! ;

Sam, Clive Owen could look like a charming villain.

Amy, poor you! Hope you feel better very soon.

Vieve, I'm going out right now to try your experiment--should work here, too--I was out fixing my fence and my fingers felt like pieces of wood after two minutes.

    Beautiful covers, Kim, Ellen.
