I am seriously jumping for joy because I cannot tell you what a time we had trying to help Brenda. It just ain't home without our Brenda!

So now that we have you back, what's been going on?

I love the name for the kitty.

And yes, I do understand why people loved the movie. I saw it in the theater with friends who loved it. Even though you knew he was going to die, and even though he was dead, he was just so sweet in how he helped her move on like that. Very heroic. Still mad he's dead. Tongue out

Actually, it was pretty funny... I was on a girl's weekend away when we saw it and I called hubby in tears, ranting about the movie. He reiterated the household rule that unless it's a Disney movie, I'm not allowed to watch without it being prescreened for a happy ending.

And yeah, I know, some of you think it was a happy ending because she got over him. Me, I'm still mad that he's dead. LOL

Jana, good luck finding the perfect place.

Steph, that's a great question, and I'm not sure I have a good answer. Personally, I love unredeemable characters. I love to see how they change and grow. I like taking someone you hate and journeying with them to a new level. The key is having some reason in the beginning that makes you choose to journey with them. But how to accomplish that... I'd love to hear it.

I'm definitely looking forward to some fun summer shows. I can't wait for the good romantic comedies.

Personally, I hated PS I love you. For me, the killer is knowing that the hero DIES after fifteen minutes. So you spend an entire movie falling in love with a dead guy. ICK.

Jana, did I miss you talking about your move? When and where? Why? Give me details, girl, details!!

Praying for all of you, and thanking God for the blessings you all give to your children. More importantly, praying He'll continue to give the tools to be good parents.

Also praying for all your requests.

And yes, Cheryl is doing well... although your post reminded me I should probably call her and say hey. I'm a terrible correspondent, whether it be mail, email, or phone. Folks usually have to hunt me down, but I'm trying to be better at it. :)

It sounds like you've gotten a lot accomplished, although I'm sad to hear about your wrist trouble. I hope they get it all worked out soon.

Camille, it sounds like you are the life of the party, as usual. I'm so envious of your trip to Victoria. One of these days, hubby and I will get there. :)

And how are the other lovely bunnies? Enjoying the spring?

That's my best advice. You can never go wrong by following the guidelines. I've heard that some authors have seen a slight relaxing of the guidelines, but personally, I'd never suggest that a new author should try it with their first book. Knowing some of the new authors as well as the established authors, and having had this conversation with many of them at one point or another, I think taking the more conservative route is best to start. As you and your editor build a rappor, and your readership grows, you might be able to talk to the editor about some changes. But in the end, I'd listen to what your editor says. We have amazing editors here at Steeple Hill. They know the business far better than any of us. And from what I've heard from the other authors, the suggestions the editors have made to books have resulted in much better books.

My point is that even if you don't understand the guidelines or think it makes it harder to tell the story, trust the editors. They know what sells. And they know what can make your story the best it can be.

And if you want to review the guidelines again, you can click here.

Hope, it's not a problem at all. Even though I'd like to think we have the best Christian fiction in the business, I know there's a lot of others out there. :) It's fine to talk about other books, so long as we keep a nice balance. :)

And speaking of other books, at our local ACFW retreat, I won a copy of Dana's Heartsong book. I forget the title, and it's in the other room. Kiddo is sleeping on my lap, so I don't want to move to get it. Very much looking forward to it.

Cara Putman, one of our suspense authors, also writes historicals for Heartsong, and I've just finished her book, Canteen Dreams, which was lovely.

BUT... my most recent read, and yes JAYNE, in case you're reading, I WILL be blogging about it, is Witness by Susan Page Davis, which was really cool. It's really interesting to take a look at people's darker intentions. I'm fascinated by that aspect of our personalities. We all have within us the capability to do great evil, and it's so interesting to see the things that push what would appear to be a perfectly ordinary person into finally doing that really bad thing.
