(((Ionie))) Sorry about the R. It sounds to me like they took the time to give you some feedback, and from what I gather getting comments on an R is always a positive. It's not something they write to everyone.
In a few days read back over the letter and use the advice they gave you in your next sub.
I don't know the answer to your question about the contest sub.

Yes Sue I just e-mailed my entry. I kept finding things to change and it was driving me crazy so I bit the bullet and hit send.
